I think the idea is that they are from different perspectives. Different people notice different things. Still, it bothers me, too.

Without thinking too hard on the question, I don't think it does... at least not directly. That story was a year or so after they were married, right? And it is easy to pick and choose parts of the past in order to make whatever point she is trying to make

Good question - and in light of the fact that Lana is pregnant with Lex's child. I guess it stems from not wanting to see her child hurting, but it is pretty bad advice
