  • The plot thickens with Whedon’s exit from ‘Batgirl’...

Last night a Zack Snyder super fan named Fiona shared a photo of a tweet on Vero about the news of Joss Whedon stepping down from Batgirl. “More bad news for fans of DC Entertainment: Joss Whedon is giving up on his Batgirl movie,” the tweet read. Fiona, who is from China, shared some of her own commentary as well. Her comment translates to: “Today, the only bad news is that the media/press still think Whedon stepping down was bad for the DCEU. They should really raise the bar to be media”. She obviously is not a big Whedon fan.

Where this story gets interesting is her comment implying that Whedon’s exit from Batgirl was good news was “liked” by Zack Snyder. It was also “liked” by Snyder’s good friend and DC Films photographer Clay Enos.

Please let there be a documentary All this behind the scenes drama is more entertaining than any movie they try to make.

    • It gets even juicier. Patty Jenkins liked a tweet that reported the fact that Zack liked the post that was celebrating Whedon's exit (this must be what Inception felt like ):

No doubt about it. A documentary about the inner workings at Warner Brothers over the last 3 years would be huge. It would definitely gross more than Justice League and they wouldn't even have to spend 300 million on it or digitally erase any moustaches.

We really should start betting on these things.
Imagine the odds you would have to give, though.

              • The planned Joker origin movie will portray Batman’s arch-nemesis as a failed 1980s comedian who becomes the clown prince of crime, which is based on “The Killing Joke” graphic novel.

I do not understand the obsession with that graphic novel. At the very least, I do not understand why anyone would consider "washed up 80's comedian" as an interesting part of Joker's backstory. It'd be like finding out that Penguin used to be a guy who sold umbrellas or that Batman used to clean the cages at a zoo. It just makes them seem small in comparison to what they become. I much prefer the way Christopher Nolan handled it, which in and of itself was not a new take, because many comics before TDK's release treated Joker the same way. He's an agent of chaos. Backstory irrelevant and unnecessary. It too narrowly defines a man who defies definition.

                  • Specifically an '80s comedian? Can Joker be played by Jerry Seinfeld?

"Batman, I have to ask, why the cape? I mean, who wears a cape?"

Well, it's good cape weather; cool, breezy.

                        • We've seen inconspicuous actors play really captivating villains and really talented actors play lame villains, so the announcement doesn't mean a lot to me. It could go either way and it all depends on the writing and the directing, IMO. Obviously Wonder Woman 2 will be set at a different time period, but the tone and the identity of the movie should be similar to the first movie's.

                          • Ava DuVernay to direct ‘New Gods’...

The New Gods was the Genesis of the uber-villain Darkseid. Also called “Fourth World,” the Kirby creation debuted in a trilogy of related comics written and drawn by Kirby that were published in the very early 1970s: New Gods, Forever People and Mister Miracle. The New Gods came into existence after the world of the gods of classic mythology were destroyed during Ragnarok. The deities inhabit two planets: one is New Genesis, a lush paradise, and the other Apokolips, which sounds like Dante’s version of hell. War ensues. There is a rich universe of extraordinary characters for DuVernay to play with here. This will be a fun one to follow.

Steven Spielberg is ready to dive into the DC Universe proper with Blackhawk, a just-announced feature film from Spielberg, Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures based on the classic DC series about a squadron of WWII-era pilots. Blackhawk, which Spielberg is hoping to direct, will be his first featured centered around characters from the DC Universe.

The screenplay for Blackhawk is being written by frequent Spielberg collaborator David Koepp, who was the screenwriter on Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Spielberg will produce the film together with Kristie Macosko Krieger, under the Amblin Entertainment banner, while Sue Kroll will executive produce, under her Kroll & Co. Entertainment shingle.
                                Some history about the property:

In the world of comics, Blackhawk is a wartime adventure series focusing on the titular Blackhawk, who commanded a squadron of ace pilots also known as the Blackhawks or the Blackhawk Squadron. The squadron would battle the Axis powers, as well as more fantastic super-villains and war machines, such as the memorable shark planes, which could operate in water as well as in the air. While the team debuted in 1941 in the heart of comics' Golden Age, they’ve also been adapted to the modern era as a part of The New 52 and have spawned a well-known DC heroine, Lady Blackhawk, who joined the series in the late 1950s.
There were rumors in the 80s and 90s that Steven Spielberg wanted to direct a Blackhawk movie and now is his chance.
