BTW, DJD, how is the last name in your ID pronounced? Doh-eena? Dough-na? Dorna? Derna? Donna?

Pretty hard for a non-Turkish/non-German person.

It's basically a fancy spelling of the Turkish/German word for "Döner", which in English is "Doner".

"oe" is an official transliteration of the letter "ö".
And "a" as a replacement for "er" is something from my native Berlinian dialect where words ending on "er" often sound like they end on the German pronunciation of "a" (which is basically when you go to the doctor and he says "open your mouth and say 'aah'").

Just go with Dee Jay Dee.

PS: If you click on the first or fourth play button here: http://www.forvo.com/word/d%C3%B6ner/ it sounds like I would say it. The second one is very deliberately pronounced where you can hear the proper "er" ending.

                  Cheers, DJD.

The closest English version based on your pronunciation link would be "Doona", which is another name for a quilt here in Australia.

Sounds funny, but then again, you're all about billabongs and jumbucks down there.
