My wife and I watch this show every week. One thing that I keep thinking about is if Rebekah really wants the cure for herself couldn't she simply compel Elena to turn her emotions back on and keep them on? We haven't seen any evidence that she has been taking Vervain and all of them have outside Mystic falls and certainly didn't take it with them when they left.
That would sideline them long enough for her to get it. And it has the added benefit of the Salvatore's getting back at least part of the Elena they are trying to save.
Before I finish up here I like the idea of Damon and Elena together, but I really think Damon's decision to make her turn it off was incredibly short sighted and the easy way out. If Damon really cared about Elena he would have helped her through her grief instead of just taking it away.
