i wonder if that's how gabriel/trickster started? just turning on a tv and seeing the first thing that was on and he was hooked.

Yeah, just rewatched the start. The real Crowley said the guy he had chained up was the origin of his species and that quite a few shifters had died during his tinkering to find the shifters real weakness - iridium.

So it appears that the real Crowley did go up in flames thanks to Cas, but it seems just too easy. I think Crowley will be back.
