MHO, it really doesn't matter. This is the last season.

I just don't get the thinking.
I don't know. Maybe it's story driven? Maybe they want to get to a certain point before the hiatus? Since this is the last season, I don't think they are all that concerned about ratings one way or the other. It's almost over.

I realize that, but I would think any network would want to keep numbers and demos as high as possible, even in a shows last season. I would think the hope would be to establish that time period as a viable programming option.

My guess is AD rates in December are at a premium since companies really want to promote stuff for Christmas. So while the episode might take a slight hit compared to playing it in Jan/Feb, the episode will earn more money for the station.

Sure. But it's program based, it's not as if they could put anything on there and get the same ratings.

MHO, I think they are airing episodes in December for story related reasons, I think they're free of the ratings worries. Perhaps storywise going in to the hiatus on 11 made more narrative sense for them. And for the CW they know they will get higher ratings with a first run episode than they would with a re-run. So, mho, it's a win no matter what.

They are doing very well in the demos right now. It will be interesting to see what happens in December. And seeing this is the last season, it's not a given that the ratings will drop in the spring the way they did in previous years. Only time will tell.

As Supes has said, the decision is more than likely story driven. The episodes Luthor/Icarus are stories that are more relevant to this half of the season than the next. And since ratings aren't much of an issue for a show that is ending, they have the freedom to put the story first and have episodes in December even if that may mean lower ratings.

I love being a part of this dedicated fan base! Those numbers are very impressive for a cw show airing on a Friday night. Especially after all the times it has been placed in what seems like a million time slots. Love this show sooo much!!!

Pretty good numbers for this time of year. I've noticed that a lot of shows this year are going into December with new episodes. I'm glad to see Smallville also doing this and keeping their ratings growth. Keeping the interest like this will hopefully help when they come back next year.

Although I'm not looking forward to longer hiatuses in the spring.

I really wish theyd move SV back to Thursday for the last half because its the final season and quite important, sure ratings don't matter too much because Its the last season but still, SV deserves it
