  • Sam's opening scene?

So did Sam pay for information that dealt with the case they worked on tonight (dead cops), or was it something else? Just kind of a weird situation where he looks at the paper, balls it up, and a close up of the trash basket when he tossed it. And its obvious from the dialogue that this wasn't a first-time 'pay for play & info' setup. It would be plausible as he immediately tells Dean he's got a case when he calls - which could have been what that piece of paper was detailing, but just seemed off somehow; like Sam appears so far in this new season ('off').

ETA: Now that I've thought about it [and read about the episode in other places] - was she a high-end escort and gave him a receipt for services bought? If so, wow Sam. Whatever happened to "(How much did it cost?) What, the girl? I don't pay, Dean."

    ------------

And probly just me, but I did a "ewww!" double-take when they first showed the lady, from a distance, in the bathroom doorway. From the distance, I thought it was the lady playing Gwen. I couldn't believe they were going there with Sam, but then seen it wasn't really her. I know he's messed up, but that would be taking it much farther than necessary.

I wasn't really surprised by it at all. Sam and Dean have really switched places as the series went on.

lol for a sec there i also thought it was his cousin, which i also found disturbing.

Then i noticed it was an escort and the thought of him saying "I don't pay, Dean." after being caught with ruby also came to my mind.

I got to thinking about it, and from what we've seen and know about the way Sam is so far this season - it fits his 'new' personality.

Sure, he paid for the sex, but in the end, there's no attachment. Its nothing but him getting what he wants/needs, and she goes on her way; aka, 'no strings attached'. Very telling how she tried to engage him in some banter, but he just gave her the utterly complete 'silent treatment'; as if he was completely shut off from her as an actual person, aside from what she sold him.

And saying he's being 'Season 1-Dean' in doing so, that's not really right. Dean didn't pay (that we know of). Sure, he rarely connected with his one-night stand conquests, but he never went so far as to make absolutely sure that any sort of attachment wouldn't have a chance to form between him and his 'acquaintance'.

My first reaction was: since when do you pay for hookers Sam? I mean is it really that difficult to pick up a gal at a bar,and have casual sex?

God, you all assume she was a hooker. I mean, he was working out at the beginning, so wouldn't the logical assumption would be that she was a personal trainer, and he had to pay her?

            ...no? Oh well.

I think that when she said to contact her again on her night off because it was so great that it kinda rules that out.
