i'm as confused as you are. -
the light is the power source to the island which is made of good and bad energy. basically like the worlds emotions and souls and stuff. so when mib was thrown in there and his soul couldnt leave the island it was sucked into that and since he is special he gained control of all the power and became a smoke monster.Comment

To me it was like his spirit was separated from his body, and his spirit was locked to the island like some sort of purgatory.
I'm not sure we have gotten the whole story on what the "light" is exactly.Comment
