So Sawyer couldn't locate Anthony Cooper in L.A!!!???

Was re watching some older episodes from this year..

One question i came up with is... How the hell does Sawy err Detective Sawyer NOT find Cooper in L.A? Hell he even flew to Sydney..

Maybe he thinks a person in that state that Cooper is in isn't capable of being the con man that conned his mom IDK... Not the slickest detective in the world.. Especially if he flew around the dam globe to find a guy who was probably within 5 miles of the precinct...
