    the lesson is....

that chloe shouldn't go anywhere alone seeing as she has no powers or fighting skills to help herself.

ollie should be more careful when saivng people.

and clark is always going to apologize even if he doesn't need to because that's just who clark is.

and clark needs to "follow protocol" because her high and mighty highness needs to be in every moment of his life even though unlike herself and ollie clark can handle himself.

That they learned nothing from Absolute Justice forcing them to repeat the lesson that working as a TEAM is better then working alone.

That Smallville is a much better show when Clark actually shows he cares about Chloe.

Hey, don't blame the characters for that, blame the writers for deciding that they should make the same mistakes all over again.

Clark is forever apologizing to Chloe. What the hell is he to blame for now? And everytime Chloe allows Clark to take the lion's share of the blame.

Chloe is the non powered member of the JSA or WT yet Ollie let her go and investigate at the hospital alone. If anyone is to blame for her getting kidnapped it would be Ollie.

Another lesson is that all supervillians and superheros on SV are better than Clark.
Within a day of getting his superpowers, Zod was flying and within a week he could control his powers enough to have sex with a human female(Tess).
MM flies in the air leaving Clark standing in the dirt looking up in the air unable to fly after him.
How long before the same thing happens with Zod.

That's true, but the memory wipe is so over-used on Smallville that I still think it is a deus ex machina because they save it for the very end. If they had not written MM as having regained his powers prior to Checkmate, there still would have been a memory wipe somehow at the end.

yeah probably but using MM is actually one of the few ways that doesn't reek of Deus Ex Machina to me...

You can never have too many plot holes.
