I already said that before, I just didn't put down the lyrics.

There's this one song that reminds me totally of Lex and Lionel's tragic father-son relationship. I think it will ring some bells...
Here's the lyrics:
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' before I knew it
And as he grew, he'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, Dad, You know I'm gonna be like you"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
When you coming home, Dad?
I don't know when
But we'll get together then. You know we'll have a good time then.
My son turned ten just the other day
He said "thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play. Can you teach me to throw?"
I said, "Not today. I got a lot to do."
He said, "That's okay."
He walked away but his smile said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know I'm gonna be like him."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
When you coming home, Dad, I don't know when
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then.
Well he came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say:
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and he said with a smile:
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys. See ya later, can I have them please?"
(CHORUS)
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you, if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time. You see my new job's a hastle and the kids have the flu, but it's sure nice talkin to you, Dad. It's been sure nice talkin to you."
And as I hung up the phone it occured to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
When you coming home, Son?
I don't know when
But we'll get together then, Dad
We're gonna have a good time then
That song, for those who don't know, is "The Cat's in the Cradle" I think by Cat Stevens. In my opinion, a lot of the lyrics fit Lionel and Lex's relationship, because no matter what Lionel does, you can tell deep down he has SOME affection for Lex. The scene I'd say this song fits most in is in "Transference" when Lionel tells Lex he's reformed, and that he'd like to be Lex's father, to which Lex responds, "You've got your health, Dad. Don't expect another miracle."
Anyone else agree with this song? Disagree? I'd love to hear feedback, cuz I'm new to the board.Comment

COME ON! Does no one agree with this song selection? In my opinion, it's a classic song that totally describes the relationship between the two.Comment

I think the problem might be that there are 2 Lionel song threads. It'd be good if we could just merge it or something. There's some great songs in the other thread too.

Be Prepared
OST Lion King
I never thought hyenas essential
They're crude and unspeakably plain
But maybe they've a glimmer of potential
If allied to my vision and brain
I know that your powers of retention
Are as wet as a warthog's backside
But thick as you are, pay attention
My words are a matter of pride
It's clear from your vacant expressions
The lights are not all on upstairs
But we're talking kings and successions
Even you can't be caught unawares
So prepare for a chance of a lifetime
Be prepared for sensational news
A shining new era
Is tiptoeing nearer
And where do we feature?
Just listen to teacher
I know it sounds sordid
But you'll be rewarded
When at last I am given my dues
And injustice deliciously squared
Be prepared!
It's great that we'll soon be connected
With a king who'll be all-time adored
Of course, quid pro quo, you're expected
To take certain duties on board
The future is littered with prizes
And though I'm the main addressee
The point that I must emphasize is
You won't get a sniff without me!
So prepare for the coup of the century
(Oooh!)
Be prepared for the murkiest scam
(Oooh... La! La! La!)
Meticulous planning
(We'll have food!)
Tenacity spanning
(Lots of food)
Decades of denial
(We repeat)
Is simply why I'll
(Endless meat)
Be king undisputed
(Aaaaaaah...)
Respected, saluted
(...aaaaaaah...)
And seen for the wonder I am
(...aaaaaaah!)
Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared
(Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo)
Be prepared!

That song is TOTALLY Lionel! hehehe. Can't you just imagine Lionel staging a coup over Lex and laughing evilly about it? LOL. And if you notice, at the beginning of that song, it sounds kinda like creepy opera right before Scar starts singing. The opera song played at the end of "Truth" when Lionel sends Chloe a voicemail kinda reminded me of that music from before the Scar song.Comment

This might apply to Lex better, but this pretty much sums up the Luthors in general:
Nice Guys finish Last
by Green Day
Nice guys finish last.
You're running out of gas.
Your sympathy will get you left behind.
Sometimes you're at your best, when you feel the worst.
Do you feel washed up, like p**s going down the drain
Pressure cooker pick my brain and tell me I'm insane.
I'm so f*****g happy I could cry.
Every joke can have its truth and now the joke's on you.
I never knew you were such a funny guy.
Oh nice guys finish last, when you run out of gas.
Don't pat yourself on the back you might break your spine.
Living on command.
You're shaking lots of hands.
Kissing up and bleeding all your trust, taking what you need.
Bite the hand that feeds.
You lose your memory and you got no shame.Comment

Not exactly...
Okay... Well... This is my first post... Hey everyone! The song I think best embodies Lionel Luthor is... "Sexy Daddy" by Destiny's Child. It doesn't completely suit him, but at least it's true! (The "Sexy Daddy" bit)Comment

Sure:
"Field Of Innocence"
I still remember the world
From the eyes of a child
Slowly those feelings
Were clouded by what I know now
Where has my heart gone
An uneven trade for the real world
I want to go back to
Believing in everything and knowing nothing at all
I still remember the sun
Always warm on my back
Somehow it seems colder now
Where has my heart gone
Trapped in the eyes of a stranger
I want to go back to
Believing in everything
[Latin hymn:]
Iesu, Rex admirabilis
Et triumphator nobilis,
Dulcedo ineffabilis,
Totus desiderabilis.
Where has my heart gone
An uneven trade for the real world
I want to go back to
Believing in everything
Away
Where has my heart gone
Trapped in the eyes of a stranger
I want to go back to
Believing in everything
I still remember.
Also, Behind Blue Eyes:
No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
And no one knows
What it's like to be hated
To be fated to telling only lies
[Chorus:]
But my dreams they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free
No one knows what its like
To feel these feelings
Like i do, and i blame you!
No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through
[Chorus]
Discover l.i.m.p. say it [x4]
No one knows what its like
To be mistreated, to be defeated
Behind blue eyes
No one knows how to say
That they're sorry and don't worry
I'm not telling lies
[Chorus]
No one knows what its like
To be the bad man, to be the sad man
Behind blue eyes.Last edited by Bailey_Luthor; 10-05-2005, 08:41 AM.Comment
