This is a tv show...I don't think TPTB have thought this out as much as we all did. They just go with the flow, disregarding the last 8 seasons like it's just nothing.
Chloe moved over Jimmy because they wrote it that way, not because she's suffering on the inside. It would be so completely boring to have a character grieving for someone who's not even on the show anymore. Besides it would ruin their plans to start another romance and maybe raise up the ratings. I know I only got interested again because of the Chollie thing. Call me unworthy, but everything else just sucks.

I don't think it would be boring to watch a character really deal with death and loose... I mean... that's the nature of drama right there...
