• The CW gives Global Frequency another try?

Apparently The CW has ordered a pilot script.... this might be the first good project they've had in development for 2010 so far.

No one's really posting on this yet, but wanted to add my two cents... I'm curious if the CW purposely waited 5 years since the death of the previous project... like maybe the previous producers (including Survivor's Mark Burnett) had a five year window in which to do it, and now that it's over, the network pounced.

I still think this is a fantastic idea to bring back and a show like this - done well - could finally have people taking the CW a bit more seriously.

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

What's this about? Never heard of the show or the graphic novel until now.

        This should answer some questions:

Sounds interesting. If The CW picks the show up, I'll have to give it a watch.

          I was reading this:
A man - who works for the Global Frequency - explodes. Sean doesn't flinch. Apparently he's used to being around dead bodies.
...and I was wondering, what exactly makes him blow up? Did the chip do that to him, or what?

I think so. To be honest, it's been so long since I've seen Global Frequency or read the script that I actually don't remember.

I think it has more to do with "Smallville's" success on Friday night and wanting to keep that success after "Smallville" ends than anything. Which is why I think "Smallville" and "Global Frequency" will both be on The CW's schedule this May. "Smallville" and "Global Frequency" will have a similar audience. It's probably one of the smartest things Dawn Ostroff has ever done... I cannot believe I said that. Though, I do hope The CW officially works out a steady Friday night. Then, they can work on Sunday next and hopefully realize that having some shows that aren't directly aimed at women isn't a bad thing.

Also, I'd love it if they got Michelle Forbes back to play Miranda Zero. And I really wouldn't mind it if the poached Enver Gjokaj and/or Dinchen Lachman from "Dollhouse." I had no clue who either were before "Dollhouse" and I was worried they'd be horrible actors, but I ended up loving them both so I don't want to see them float off into obscurity.

I could also go so far as to say that Smallville's 2-hour episode in February might be a test to see how new programming on Friday at 9 goes.

If a new GF is as good as the original pilot was, it might be "can't miss" television... even being on a Friday night.

I just hope if they pick it up they don't pair it with something that's demographically so different - aka, anything that's not Smallville or Supernatural. But it's a good strategy to at least try something male-skewing... especially as everything else that has been announced for development so far had been more "rich girls" crap.

I saw the original GF and I thought it was good, not great but something that definitely had potential. I wish I never deleted that pilot episode now!

I look forward to seeing the new pilot episode.

I wonder if they will bring back the same actors? (if they're available of course)

I doubt it. I believe Aimee Garcia and Josh Hopkins are busy with other projects.

I really loved Michelle Forbes as Miranda Zero but the others... I'd be fine with some change. I'd especially LOVE to actually have a British, punky Aleph this time around.

I heard the name, never got a chance to see it and still have no clue what it's about. but it seems like a Gov organization mixed with sci-fy

It might best be described as a quasi-civilian rescue organisation that cleans up emergencies many of which were secret projects. Anyone could be a member of global frequency but if they are they will be exceptional in some way everything from a great doctor to a great killer and everything in between.

GF's main strength was that it's main agenda was ending the threat whatever it was, nothing else mattered. The comic had different specialists each issue dealing with a new emergency (perfect for TV) Miranda Zero (scary ex-spy and creator of GF) and Aleph (a polyglot with almost supernatural multitasking skills) were the only really regular characters.

Michelle Forbes was excellent as Miranda, so I hope they get her back. Aleph back as a punk would also be great but I can't see it going down well with the powers that be, I would imagine they are going to play it relatively safe.
