      • I loved it. Crossfire was non stop from start to finish. The effecs used when Clark caught bullet were amazing. Then to top the night off we finally got our Clois kiss. Beautiful!

But to my relief the opening was a spoof of Good Morning America at which point I composed my emerging Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde persona.

-(Continuation of the post above) At that particular moment in time I was prepared to explode like an enraged Phillies fan after the Yankees 27th win of the World Series or fanatical Lakers who contributed to the damage of several police cruisers, spontaneous bonfires, looting, vandalizing, and injuring to 8 police officers while celebrating the team's 09' NBA Playoff victory against the Magic.

-Look out world! Lois and Clark are the next Ryan (Seacrest) and Giuliana (Rancic), Samantha (Harris) and Tom (Bergeron), Chelsea (Handler) and Chuy, Heidi and Spencer!?! Hmmm, never mind that was not the best example of dyanmic co-hosting duos.

-Clark’s bizarre audition with Lois reminded me of the psychotic Tom Cruise couch jumping fiasco as well as two very memorable Paula Abdul interviews, with the exception of the slurred speak and peculiar behavior of course. Clark was in La-La Land during his audition with Lois.
LOL, that was a hilarious hodge-podge of pop culture references there -- I loved it!

Conveniently the self assured confident Clark Kent is replace with Flannel Man.

Hmm... I hadn't thought about that, but you might just be right -- that sneaky would-be-talk show host, Clark...

You think THAT'S ambitious. Wait until one of them tries out for the next season of American Idol, and another becomes a breakout artist recognized in whatever monthly music awards show is on these days.

AND she probably wouldn't run to the one place that has no escape route. Seriously, who tries to escape a machine gun-wielding crazy dude by climbing onto a roof? And she'd probably have grabbed the bad guys' weapons BEFORE she tried to escape to prevent them even being able to continue to pursue and harass them!

IT WAS TOTALLY SMOKIN' COOL TOTAL AWESOMNESS TO THE NTH DEGREE!!! Even my dad (who is pretty much bored and sick of Smallville after nine seasons) commented on how amazing it was.

Indeed! It's high time she lives her own life and gets to make some of her own choices! However, it was nice, to me, to see her take initiative. This time, it wasn't Clark or somebody else coming to her with a problem and asking her to fix it; it was her seeking out a solution before really being asked!

Yeah, his turnaround from gutter-bound suicidal drunkard to patron saint of mentorship was about as fast a transition as many Smallville viewers ran running from their television screens after "Ageless."

I hope you're wrong, but with the way TPTB have been taking her this season, I can see where you're coming from in your assessment of what happened here.

You are definitely NOT the only one. I thought it was a very weird compliment, too.

It felt as if I missed a critical episode where all of these issues were addressed. However, it was still an enjoyable episode.

Yeah, all those elements did seem a bit odd. It was almost as though they'd yanked this episode out of a different season (certain elements of it, anyway) and crammed it into early Season 9, especially in the super-friendly, angst-free conversation between Clark and Chloe. And yes, the fact that Lois has still not been told about Jimmy's death (or talked about it on-screen) still bothers me, too.

Great review, Cyndy! You may think, as you said, that you were "inspiration-challenged" this week, but I think you did a great job! I really enjoyed reading it, and you made lots of excellent points. I'll look forward to what you think of "Idol."

            • This entire episode was riding on a 7 maybe a 8. And then in the last 5 mins it hit 10. Truthfully while the Clark Lois kiss alone would had made it a ten (and may I say finally), it was totally over shadow by another scene (to me, don't hate on me I loved the kiss). Tess Mercer has officially received permanent status as a BA!! Not only for killing the Kandorian assassin but also for delivering that bloody dog tag to Zod. Tess kneels to no one!

              • I thought this was yet another enjoyable episode, I loved the Clark stops the bullets scene I actually thought it was better than the shooting scene in Superman Returns, they added abit more. 7/10 for me very enjoyable

                  • "Echo" and now "Crossfire" really start the season up. Really liked the teaser with the whole tv-show thing. I think this episode really showed how good both the chemistry and comedy is between Tom Welling and Erica Durance. I swear no other actor has gotten so much fun out of Clark's character. You can see this very clearly in the scene with Clark and Cat Grant when Lois is constantly buzzing in his ear. Was very funny to notice that even though Clark has seen many things and has been in Metropolis for years he is still new and fresh off the farm (literally) when diving into showbisnes.

Oliver's plot with Mia wasn't that good but mainly because the actress playing her wasn't that good, (really hot though) or she just didn't get more out of her from the script. But I liked the idea of Oliver getting his groove back after "Roulette" (liked it's premise, hated the solution...well it got Oliver back) that he is willing to help others facing same problems.

Chloe/Stuart hackoff and Zod/Tess powerplay was good and added needed layers to the plot which I think should be included in every episode. I think it all rolled on very naturally. Made the whole episode feel longer and very significant.

The action was great, only thing I have to say that even though Lois and Oliver are as awesome as ever I'd hoped a bigger input from Mia. I loved her initial fight in the ring. That was some smoking hot choreography and with Oliver's sparring she should have beaten the pimp. Unless Lois was right and Oliver and Mia were just "sparring". The SR scene in the end crowned an excellent episode. It showed how much Oliver cared for Lois (covering her from the bullets.) and for Clark to have a badass save. I mean that image of him taking the bullets, walking and then heatvisioning the gun...In the shows past of many heatvision scenes, this was one of the best (along with the one from "Heat", "Arrow", "Prototype and "Bizarro")

If that scene was the visual and crown or the action crown of the epi...then the kiss must be the emotional crown.

This episode like "Persuasion" was a perfect combo of light and dark. Lighter more humorous scenes with darker more story and drama driven scenes. It just was the bomb!! I'd give this episode 11 if I could and even that would be too less...

                    Well deserved 10

                    • A little revisit of the love arc from Season 6, with digging up some of Oliver's feelings for Lois. This scene was good, because it led to The Scene, which made me feel like a girl. Wow. I've never been so excited about a television kiss.

                      • 2/10. This is my least favorite episode of season 9 and my second least favorite episode of the series. I enjoyed Zod's scenes (how many did he have? 4?) and Clark catching the bullet. The rest was terrible. Clark and Lois hosting a morning talk show? Really?

                        Comment

                        • Cracking episode. A lot was happening outside of the main Clark & Lois plot but it was kept focussed so each strand made sense. You had the season arc featuring Zod get a key development with the whole solar towers thing. You had Tess showing that she isn't somebody to be messed with. You had Oliver try to refocus his life on doing some good instead of wallowing in a drink-fuelled binge of self pitying. You had Chloe correctly suggesting that Clark stick to embracing his human side instead of flitting between that and searching for the missing Kandorians. And last but not least, you had the pay off for Clois fans.

And what a way to start the episode! Arguing like a married couple, Welling in super-funny mode as clueless Clark, Clark openly saying that he wants to go on a date with Lois, Lois trying (and failing) to be mad at him because she's totally smitten, and them somehow getting the gig despite it being evident that Clark will be crap in front of the cameras.

How well do those two know each other? His ribbing her about her drinks and theatre preferences, and her pointing out that he has been so honest with his dating profile suggest that both pay attention. I loved his being at a loss for words when she asked him what was great about her that would attract other guys. I loved his friendly jab about an annoying ringing in his ear (she found that amusing too), and her struggle to hide her jealousy that his date had so much going for her and that it was going really well.

I thought it was great when Oliver laughed at the idea of Clark doing morning television and going on a date because he thinks Clark's earnestness would make for car crash TV.

I also liked that Clark was so bold when talking to Lois through her earpiece about getting a second date, and the whole love or war chat. She was well up for the idea until Oliver showed up, and then totally flustered when Oliver started talking about basically wanting her back. It's good that she was honest with him though, rather than stringing him along. While it showed that Oliver knows he made a mistake when first letting her go, he actually took it very well. That they had a life-or-death situation soon afterwards probably prevented him from hitting the drink again.

And then the pay off itself. Exactly the conclusion the episode needed and another example of Clark overcoming his nerves and reservations and just being bold and going for it. If you want to shut Lois up mate, THAT's the way to do it.

                            • First appearance of Mia Dearden (the future Speedy). Not some original character, very loosely based on her. The actual character. A teen prostitute that Oliver helps get off the streets and away from her abusive pimp, Richard/Rick.

We're introduced to her engaging in underground street fighting. Showing us that she is already a skilled fighter. She'll improve under Oliver, but she doesn't go from zero to black belt in every martial art, over the weekend.

On the L&C front, Lois is trying to land a TV job, due to her worries that newspapers will go extinct and that she needs a back-up plan. So, we're shown the character dealing with real-world career worries. Which I extremely enjoyed.

The Chloe/Stuart stuff was probably not realistic hacking, but still entertaining.

                                Probably?

When it comes to TV, most hacking as absurd. Hacking comes in two flavours depending on what you try to achieve. One is finding flaws in the software itself. If you have the software itself you can reverse-engineer the binary code (the 0s and 1s the computer is telling what to do) into a semi-readable human-readable version of it. Then you can start looking for weaknesses. Oftentimes the data that is inputted from the outside (either by a person or another program) is not validated correctly. Instead of entering your last name you tell the program to do someting else. And because the programmer didn't properly validate the data he just takes whatever you inserted into the last name field and runs with it. Of course it's a bit more complicated than that but the general approach is really that.

The second approach is "social engineering" which is used most of the time when we hear about new nude leaks by celebs (Katie Cassidy seems to be a recent victim). You approach the target's real-world environment. You find out what they call their dog, what their mom's maiden name is and so forth. This way you gain insight into the targetted person / company. The 1996 movie Hackers starring Angelina Jolie and Tommy Lee Miller while being completely ludicrous about the actual hacking part is pretty decent in portraying the social engineering part.

If you'd like an interesting read about this topic, read Takedown: The Pursuit and Capture of Kevin Mitnick, America's Most Wanted Computer Outlaw - By the Man Who Did It. Fair warning: It actually was written by the man who did it and he's quite full of himself. He's a real-world The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon type: Social niceties are not for him. But I still enjoyed reading it (even though I flinched more than once when he scolded his assistent Andrew in the book).
