  • HaHa, i totally agree with you Flawed Fashion. I just watched the rerun and found that I actually enjoyed the episode a lot more. Still stand by everything I've posted before in this thread, b/c those same things still bothered me. But it was much better watching it tonight without all the expectations weighing it down and being able to just enjoy it. Never thought I'd say that about Roulette.

    • Just watched the re-run... Still don't really love this episode. The first time it was meh... but now watching Chloe lie so much and so well to Clark and Ollie during everything... and then insulting Clark that he would never do what it takes... it just made me mad. I never figured her for an end-justifies-the-means kinda woman.

ITA. Still don't like this epi. Hated the last conversation between Oliver and Chloe. So much nonsense...

And yet, they were right. Clark is waaay better than these two.

        And I can't buy this so-called Oliver's redemption.

        • Boring. Not much envolvement in the shows main character. Maybe the seasons worst epi.

            • In my opinion, this episode was the worst of the season. It was far too confusing, too boring, had too much Oliver, and not enough Clark. It was good to see Oliver finally get out of his funk, but this episode was just very underwhelming for me.

              I give it a 4.

              • I like how Chloe was designed to give Oliver the wake-up call. Craig made so much of a big deal in his Season 9 DVD review of not liking the storyline of Oliver's depression, but that was a lot of talk for just a four-episode arc- well, perhaps a few more episodes going into last season. That's how the Green Arrow character is. It made perfect sense to explore that part of Oliver's psyche.

                • "Roulette" could have been devoted to the kandorian plot or hint at Checkmate or the JLA before the actual event. Oliver could have gotten better in the heart of the action just like in "Identity" from S8 where the episode itself is Clark sentric with Jimmy trying to find out his secret. They do a role reversal of "Hydro" and Oliver realizes the person he really is...is Green Arrow.

The premise of the episode is great but the pay off is ludicrous and just stupid. They try to explain that no-one was in real danger but seing the first half of the episode it was nothing but dangerous!! And the Justice League was offscreen like Zod in the entire first half of season 9.

Would have prefered something solid like Clark try to sabotaze the project. Give the Zod storyline more depth. Maybe even temporarely solve it somehow so Clark could go play tv-host happy in "Crossfire." (Next episode)

Weakest episode of season 9 gets a 4

                  • Watching this episode again(only out of respect for Tom's work)just makes me realize that it's probably why I hate this one the most in the entire ten-year run of the series. The sheer lack of respect for the character of Clark Kent is so prevalent throughout this episode by the rest of the characters is mind-boggling.

                    • I like this episode and I think Oliver is a great character, but there has been a tendency on this show to dedicate huge swathes of it to Oliver's demons and him fighting or simply going along with his downward spiral - seemingly not learning from them. While he's not slow to point out where he thinks Clark is in the wrong, Clark doesn't reciprocate nearly as strongly as he perhaps should with Oliver. More bluntness on Clark's part would also allow these swathes of Oliver-focussed story to at least have some more Clark in them. As the primary protagonist of the show, the writers ought to have seen that.

                      • An enjoyable episode, with an unfortunate and unnecessary twist. As I've noted elsewhere, the character of Chloe served a function during the show's early years, but as it progressed she became more and more redundant, which this episode heavily demonstrates. First Clark and Oliver goes to her for information about Victoria. Something you'd think Clark (who is now a reporter) would be able to do on his own. Then she has to explain to Clark how Alia could still be there, right after he pointed out that the one he buried was from the future. He's traveled through time three times by this point, no one should have to explain time travel stuff to him. Towards the end, he returns and she searches the globe for Kryptonian symbols. However, there he more needed the Watchtower's computers and not her. Furthermore, why couldn't Jor-El have done it at the Fortress? Answer: because we need to still keep this character relevant to the show. They also reveal that Chloe was behind the Oliver plot (again to keep her relevant), which she insist had no real danger to it. Sure looked dangerous to me. They sent a dog on him. Trapped him in a car, which a truck ran into. At one point, he wakes up, face down in a puddle. Which doesn't sound dangerous, but actually is. If his head had been submerged in the puddle, he would've inhailed the water (instead of air) and drowned.

I liked the bit with Lois lashing out at Clark, for not telling her about Oliver's suicide attempt. Lana often got upset about Clark not telling her stuff, but this is different. With Lana, it was her being upset about not being told about stuff, that were none of her business (like Clark's secret). Here, Lois is understandably upset, because Clark didn't inform her about their mutual friend's suicide attempt. Feelings that are clearly enhanced because Oliver's gone missing. So, when Lois is confronted with these new facts, she has to consider the possibility that Oliver might've killed himself. And there was nothing she could've done to stop it, because the one guy who knew it, didn't tell her.
