That's scary to imagine, she'll use him then kill him.

I do not know, you were laughing to me, but they had something common, so I could imagine it theoretically.

They both started as not the most positive characters in Smallville (Tess more than Whitney definitely), they came through the hard times in their lives and it changed them to better. They both also died as heroes for the protection of others (Tess for Clark, Whitney for his buddy from the unit). Also their heroic sacrifice was never mentioned by the others (It looked that all main characters forget about Tess in the finale; Whitney was not remembered very much after his death).

Oh, Whitney started out worse. Whitney started out as an aggressive guy, who assaulted, stripped and strung up another guy in a field, simply for the guy having spoken to his girlfriend in a platonic manner. He should've been charged for what he did.

Tess, on the other hand, didn't commit any crimes in her first appearance. She shut down a lab, that were imprisoning metahumans and experimenting on them. She showed up investigating a missing person case. Any negative views on her were really motivated by her association with Lex Luthor.

Big difference. Whitney died in season 2, of a show that ran for ten (plus an eleventh, as a comic book series). Tess seemingly died in the last few minutes of the series finale. The last few minutes jumped to 2018, seven years later. Also, between the present day scenes and the 2018 scenes in "Finale", the season 11 comic (set 2011-2012) had Tess be revived and her mind uploaded into an android body (resulting in her becoming "Red Tornado"). So, the 2011 scenes takes place right after her "death", but before anyone was notified of her passing. Meanwhile, from an in-universe perspective, there'd be no reason for them to mourn her in 2018. Because, she's alive and have been Red Tornado for the past six years.

Even if one ignores season 11, there would still be an argument that Tess could've come back to life. Previously, she had died in "Salvation", only to be revived a few hours later in "Lazarus", through unknown means (we don't know exactly how). Granny Goodness could've made Tess immortal, for all we know. Tess had also died (and been revived) in "Sacrifice".

So, we've got a woman with a track record of dying and coming back to life. Not to mention, belonging to the Luthor clan, she comes from a family with a really good track record of dying and coming back to life:

Lex: Blown up and killed in "Requiem". Several clones show up in season 10, before Lex is revealed to have survived (and had his body rebuilt with parts from clones).

Julian Luthor: Murdered as an infant. In season 7, there is not one, but two Julian clones: Adrian Cross and Grant Gabriel.

Lionel: Murdered by Lex in season 7. In season 10, a Lionel from Earth-2 comes to Earth-1.

Lana Luthor: Blown up and killed in "Phantom", revealed to still be alive in "Bizarro" (with the one who was killed having been a clone).

The last one might be a bit of a stretch, but the vast majority of the onscreen Luthor clan have shown a tendency to not stay dead. Lucas never died (as far as we know; the lack of references to him makes it seem like he's been retconned out of existence). Helen Bryce-Luthor jumped out of a plane, with the show never addressing if she's alive or dead (so, she's a strange gray area). Leaving Lachlan (and his mentioned only wife) and Lillian as the only two onscreen Luthors to have died and stayed dead (though, Lillian did appear twice in season 5, as a spirit). Neither death occured onscreen. Lachlan's death was a plotline, to get Lionel into prison. Lillian's to add tragedy to Lex's story (and explain why we never see his mother).

So, with Tess, we're dealing with a woman who have previously died in a season finale and come back to life. A woman connected to a family, with an overwhelming tendency to come back from the dead (with one of them doing it, in the episode, where she seemingly dies). This means that, even if one ignores season 11, there is still a good chance that Tess either survived or came back to life (in one form or another). When they cut to 2018, no hints/references are made that Tess had died permanently in 2011.
