  • Do too many people know Clark's secret?

Ok, this is my first post.

But here is what I have to say to TPTB, in light of Tess becoming closer to finding out Clark's secret, if not already knowing it.

Does it annoy anyone that nearly everyone now on the cast of Smallville knows about Clark's abilities and origins. Thoughts?

Also is it annoying else with ace reporter Chloe going from absolute cynic of all things to true believer of Davis. Thoughts?

Well, let's make a lis on every season of who knows clarks secret of the cast!

      Season 1:
      - Jonathan Kent
      - Martha Kent

so inc. Clark 3 out of 8 of the regulars knows his secret.

      Season 2:

      - Jonathan Kent
      - Martha Kent
      - Pete

      4 out of 8 regulars.

      Season 3:Same as season 2.

      Season 4:

      - Jonathan Kent
      - Martha Kent
      - Chloe
      - Lionel Luthor ( sort of )

      5 out of 8.

Season 5: same as season 4.

      Season 6:

      - Martha Kent
      - Lana Lang
      - Chloe
      - Lionel Luthor

      So 5 out of 7..

      Season 7:

      - Kara
      - Chloe
      - Lana
      - Lex ( at end of season )
      - Lionel

      so 6 out of 8.

      Season 8:

      - Chloe
      - Oliver
      - Davis
      - Tess?! at end of season?

So season 8 is not the worst season for people knowing his secret.

yes way to me people know clark's secret, and it is getting old. like it was getting old when chloe, lana, and pete figured out clark was a alien, but lex couldn't. lex is supposed to be a genius and one of the smartest most dangerous villians in comic book lore, and yet he could not figure it out for seven long tiring years.

Whoa. When you post a list like that, Jason, it really does make it pretty obvious how silly it is for THAT many people to know the truth about Clark, even if so many of them are dead, institutionalized, or in prison. Clark's secret should've really been exposed to the world by now with the number of times somebody's found out about him or seen him in action. Crazy!

To me, "knowing the secret" means knowing all parts of the secret, not just knowing that he has powers.

To me, it means knowing he has something to hide and the BIGGEST part of that IS his powers.

Great list, and I think it sums up my point of view best...isn't Clark's identity supposed to be a secret? I always thought the three main people that were supposed to know Clark's secret(in the Superman universe) were: Martha, Jonathan & Lois(and maybe Lana).

Thank you! And even more proof of why the should have ended the show back at the end of season 5. I mean, all that's left and seems to be the focus of Smallville, is how Clark discovers and develops his "Superman" identity. But all this seems irrelevant now, because nobody in there right mind can say now that at least a 100 people now would not recognize Clark as Superman. You mean to tell me, Jimmy won't know who Superman is now??? Looks like a big "Oops" and over sight from producers and writers now. Clark should've remained a farmboy until he was close to embracing and exposing the Superman identity.

Was trying to find a specific thread regarding this discussion on one of the non-episode threads but the search function sucks!

Anyway, my viewpoint on this is exactly as per below:

Of all the people that we know are aware of all parts of the secret, it's Chloe's reaction to it in 5x01 (Arrival) that is the best in the series. Her reaction is about both the fact Clark has abilities plus the fact he actually tells her he's an alien, and is a great mix of cute, inquisitive, proud, happy and awestruck. Clark tells Pete his secret in 2x03 (Duplicity) and Pete's initial reaction is to be upset before eventually coming round. Clark tells Lana in 6x22 (Phantom) but her reaction, far from being realistic, is written and portrayed as lovey-dovey speaking-in-whispers rubbish totally at odds with her attitude and decisions up to that point.

There were great reactions by Lois in 8x15 (Infamous) and 10x05 (Isis) but in the former, we don't actually see a discussion about his origins and in any case, Clark uses the Legion Ring to reboot time and wipe that knowledge away, and in the latter, she's responding to Clark's admission that he is the Blur. She sussed it out much earlier but waited for him to come to her. The stuff about his alien origins was an Offscreenville moment that's only referred to at the begining of the next episode 10x06 (Ambush). Clark admits to Jimmy in 8x22 (Doomsday) that he is the RBB, confirming Jimmy's suspicions from all the way back in 8x07 (Identity). There is no mention about Clark's alien origins.

The amount of people that know Clark's secret is often exaggerated. You have some meteor freaks at Belle Reve. However, as we saw with Sasha Woodsman in "Cure", there is now a medical procedure, that not only removes their abilities, but also erases their memories of their time as meteor infected. We can assume that a large chunk of the meteor infected population at Belle Reve have gone through his procedure (they establish that Sasha is only one of many MF, that have been operated on), thus removing all of their memories of Clark and his secret.

Looking at the list above, I'm instantly noticing some inaccuracies. Nam-Ek, Aethyr, Aldar, Curtis Know, Wes Keenan and Titan never learned Clark's civilian name. To know Clark's secret, you not only need to know that he has powers, but also that his name is "Clark Kent". Furthermore, Aldar, Wes Keenan and Titan are all dead (Nam-Ek was wounded by Raya, but we don't know if he died). The same goes for Ryan James, Cassandra Carver (did she actually learn Clark's secret), Virgil Swann, Patricia Swann, Sebastian Kane, Roger Nixon, Sam Phelan... I could go on, but I think I've made my point. Basically, a lot of those people (that knew Clark's secret) are dead. The Legion is from a thousand years into the future (if we go by the comics, they generally know his secret) and Shelby is a freaking dog. Seth Nelson fell into a coma, with Lana pointing out that the doctors are unsure how much he'll remember, if he wakes up (so, if he ever woke up, he probably didn't remember Clark's secret).

In the comics, members of the Justice League are often entitled to know each others secret identities. Which includes Tess, who joined the proto-League in S10 and became a member (as Red Tornado) of the official Justice League, by the end of the S11 comic.

That the main cast (which, by season 10, was composed entirely of League members and Lois) knows Clark's secret is completely justified. In the early seasons, they had to resort to a lot of convenient unconsciousness or amnesia, to keep characters from learning Clark's secret. It got ridiculous after a while.

Truth be told, there are no actual rules about how many people can be allowed to know Clark's secret, as far as the comics are concerned.
