As promised, the transcripts and picspams from 'Once and Future Queen'

      The Once and Future Queen

The first lot of scenes about these two in the ep. Involves Arthur being a prat, Gwen ticking him off, dinner dates and them being so freaking cute.

      Scene 1:

*Merlin and Arthur enter Gwen’s home*

      *Gwen bows*

      Gwen: My lord.

Arthur: Guinevere . . . It’s good of you to let me stay in your home.

      *They smile at each other*

      Gwen: I’m happy to help.

      Merlin: *whispering* Food.

Gwen: *to Arthur* I’ll prepare some food for you.

*Arthur smiles, nods and turns around to look at the house*

Gwen: *whispering to Merlin* I can’t believe I let you talk me into this!

      Scene 2:

*Gwen is sweeping the floors in her home while Arthur finishes drinking at the table*

*He gets up as Gwen looks at him*

Arthur: It’s been a long day. I think I’ll turn in for the night.

*goes over to sit on the only bed in the home*

      Arthur: Is this my bed?

*Gwen looks a bit put out, but collects herself*

Gwen: Of course. I hope you’ll be comfortable.

Arthur: I’m sure I will be.

*Gwen looks aggravated as she leaves the room to go over to another pantry-like room and closes the sheet across the threshold for some privacy. Reaching for a blanket she throws it down on some sacks of flour*

*Arthur and Gwen both try to get comfortable, unsuccessfully*

Arthur: *calling into next room* Goodnight . . . Guinevere.

Gwen: *calling into next room* Goodnight, My Lord

*they both are wearing expressions like they are out of their element*

      Scene 3:

*Gwen clears the supper table as Arthur finishes drinking, she cleans off the plates and talks to Arthur over her shoulder*

Gwen: From what I hear, the ladies at the court are quite impressed with “Sir William”

      *Arthur rolls his eyes*

Gwen: They think he’s very handsome.

Arthur: Typical. They wouldn’t know a real knight if he whacked them around the head with his lance.

*Gwen smirks and turns about to talk to Arthur*

Gwen: Why are you doing this?

Arthur: I fear people respect me just because of my title.

Gwen: I don’t believe that’s true of everyone.

Arthur: Would you tell me if it were?

      Gwen: No.

*they look at each other and Gwen raises her eyebrows*

Arthur: When I’m competing as William, my title doesn’t matter, no one gives me any special treatment.

      *Gwen watches him intently*

Arthur: So when I win this tournament, if I win this tournament, it will be because I deserve it. Not because I’m ‘Prince’ Arthur.

*They watch each other again. Arthur appears to get discomfited and gets up to stretch*

      Arthur: I think I’ll take a bath.

Gwen: That might be difficult, seeing as how I don’t have a bathtub.

      *Arthur looks surprised*

      Arthur: Really?

      *Gwen shakes her head mutely*

Arthur: Uh . . . Perhaps you could prepare me a bowl of hot water. I take it you have a bowl.

*Gwen aggravated and her voice is terse*

Gwen: I think I can manage a bowl.

*Goes to fetch her shawl from the door and glares at Arthur’s back, as he’s still stretching*

Gwen: Just walk all the way down to the well and fetch some water, shall I?

*Arthur says nothing, and Gwen looks put out as she goes outside*

      Scene 4:

*Gwen is sweeping the pantry area where she sleeps as Arthur comes in the door, with his cloak on*

      Arthur: Guinevere . . .

      Gwen: Just a minute!

*Gwen rushes to hide the blanket she was using so Arthur doesn’t see it*

Arthur: You have a needle and thread? This shirt needs mending.

      Gwen: Umm . . .

*Arthur walks over to her and sees the blanket past her shoulder*

Arthur: Is this where you sleep? Where’s your bed?

      Gwen: You’re sleeping in it.

Arthur: Why didn’t you say something?

Gwen: How could I? You’re Prince Arthur.

      *Arthur stares at her*

Gwen: Besides, you didn’t give me the chance, you just assumed the bed was yours.

      *Arthur looks away*

Arthur: Well how am I supposed to know if you don’t tell me?

Gwen: You shouldn’t need to be told to think of someone other than yourself. You’re not a child.

*Arthur stares at Gwen hard, as she lowers her eyes. He sets his mouth in a hard line.*

Arthur: Is there anything else you’d like to say to me?

*Gwen looks downcast as Arthur speaks*

Arthur: Please, I’d like to hear it. If there’s something you want to say to me, don’t let me stop you.

*Arthur stares Gwen down, but she finally gets her nerves in order to speak again*

Gwen: You don’t have any idea, do you?

      Arthur: About what?

Gwen: About how rude and arrogant you can be!

*Arthur’s look softens a bit as Gwen keeps going*

Gwen: This is my home, and you are a guest in it! I know you are used to more luxurious quarters, but that is no excuse to be so rude! You claim titles don’t matter to you, but you behave like a prince and expect me to wait on you like a servant! Saying it means nothing if your actions betray you! Would it kill you to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ once in awhile?!

*Arthur is watching Gwen, and she realizes who she is talking to.*

      Gwen: My Lord.

      *She looks downcast again*

Arthur: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Gwen: No, I think that’s it.

*There is an uncomfortable silence for a bit*

Arthur: You’re right. You have invited me into your home, and I have behaved appallingly.

      *Gwen looks surprised, but softens*

Gwen: I didn’t mean to make you feel bad.

      *Arthur smirks*

      Arthur: Oh really?

      *Gwen smiles shyly*

      Gwen: Well, perhaps a little.

Arthur: There’s no excuse. I’ll make it up to you. Tonight, I will make dinner for you.

*Arthur ushers Gwen towards the door*

Gwen: You’re going to cook me dinner?

Arthur: I most certainly am, now go for a walk and do whatever it is girls do at this time of the evening.

      Gwen: That will be nice.

Arthur: Dinner will be ready when you return.

*Arthur shuts the door and turns around to get started, looking utterly perplexed*

      Scene 5:

*Merlin drops off the dinners he got from the palace kitchens, while Arthur watches out the window for Gwen*

Arthur: She’s coming. Quick, out the back way. Do something with this.

*Arthur tosses the unused chicken to Merlin*

Merlin: Hope Gwen’s impressed with your cooking.

*Merlin smirks and dashes out the door*

*Arthur turns about and gets his posture ready for when Gwen comes inside. He smiles at her when she enters the house*

      Arthur: Guinevere . . . perfect timing.

*Gwen smiles shyly as Arthur pulls the seat out for her*

      Gwen: Thank you.

*Gwen and Arthur smile at each other*

      Gwen: This is delicious.

Arthur: I’m glad you like it.

      Scene 6:

      *They are finishing up dinner*

      *Arthur smiles, amused*

Arthur: So . . . do I have any more annoying habits you wish to tell me about?

      Gwen: No, none.

Arthur: There’s something else isn’t there? What is it?

Gwen: Well, the truth is, you snore.

      *Arthur looks incensed*

      Arthur: I do not snore.

      *Gwen giggles*

Gwen: You do. First night you were here, I thought a pig had got into the house.

Arthur: So, now I’m a pig. Thank you Guinevere.

Gwen: I just meant you sound like a pig.

*Arthur crinkles his face in distaste, Gwen laughs*

Gwen: I think I better stop talking.

*She moves to collect the plates but Arthur beats her to it*

      Arthur: I’ll do that.

*Gwen sees the bottom of the plates*

Gwen: Where did you get those plates?

*Arthur takes them over to the sink and Gwen follows*

      Arthur: From the cupboard.

      *Gwen picks one up*

Gwen: They have the royal seal. They’re from the palace kitchens, I’ve washed enough of them to know. I take it that’s where our food also came from.

*Gwen is starting to get angry as they both move*

Arthur: Look, I can kill a chicken from a thousand paces, just don’t ask me to cook it. That’s what servants are for.

*He realizes what he said as he turns to face an unhappy Gwen*

Arthur: I didn’t mean it like that.

Gwen: I’m not ashamed to be a servant. At least I’m not a liar.

Arthur: We had a nice meal together, what does it matter where it came from?

*Gwen walks closer to Arthur, upset*

Gwen: Because I thought you’d shown some humility! You’d done something kind for me, even though I’m just a servant!

      *Arthur watches her, dour*

Gwen: A good king should respect his people, no matter who they are.

*She starts to walk away, but Arthur reaches for her arm to hold her back, and says her name very softly*

      Arthur: Guinevere . . .

      *They face each other*

Arthur: I know I have much to learn. There are some things I’m terrible at. Cooking being one of them . . . but also knowing what to say to someone I care about.

*They gaze at each other and almost have a moment when Merlin comes in the door*

Merlin: Arthur, there’s an assassin in Camelot! He’s here to kill you!

*Arthur takes a seat, looking troubled*

Merlin: The assassin killed a guard. Your father said Odin sent him.

Gwen: Why would Odin want you dead?

Arthur: Because I killed his son.

*Gwen looks at Arthur wonderingly as Arthur looks upset and serious*

Arthur: Odin’s son challenged me to a fight. I had no quarrel with him, I asked him to withdraw. Perhaps he felt he had to prove himself. I can still see his face, he looked so scared.

      Gwen: You cannot blame yourself.

      *Arthur drops his head*

Merlin: No one but us knows where you are. If the assassin can’t find you, he can’t kill you.

Arthur: May I continue to stay here?

Gwen: Of course. For as long as you need.

Arthur: Thank you. I’ll sleep on the floor tonight.

Gwen: No, have my bed. You need to be well rested for the tournament tomorrow.

Arthur: I’ll not hear of it. Goodnight, Guinevere.

      Gwen: Goodnight.

KISS. OF LOVE AND STUFF. Also jousting heroics, giggliness, and epic slow mo end. THEY ARE SO EPIC TOGETHER, Y/N?

        Scene 7:

*the following morning, Arthur is getting ready for the tournament*

Arthur: One more match. Tournament will be over.

Gwen: You can go back to being Prince Arthur.

*Gwen smiles, Arthur nods, but their smiles fade as they look a little disappointed*

*Gwen takes out a white handkerchief, a token of good luck that ladies of court often give to their favored knights*

Gwen: Umm . . . I thought you might wear it. For luck.

*She steps close to Arthur to hand him the handkerchief and he takes it*

        *Arthur smiles at her genuinely*

        Arthur: Thank you.

*Gwen smiles shyly in return as if it is no big deal*

*Gwen looks at Arthur, trying to smile, but unsure of what to say. Arthur watches Gwen intently, almost adoringly*

*After Gwen sends him one more shy smile, he leans down and captures her mouth with his own. Gwen doesn’t pull away, and finally closes her eyes as the kiss goes on for some time. Sunlight shines on them from the windows and very dramatic romantic music plays*

*They pull away slowly, both a bit dazed at what just happened. Gwen looks a little uncomfortable and Arthur looks shocked with himself*

        Arthur: I must go.

*Arthur hurries out the door, taking the handkerchief with him*

*Gwen stays after he has shut the door, closing her eyes and then opening them again, still looking dazed*

        Scene 8:

*Gwen rushes from the stands as she sees that Arthur has been hurt*

*She helps him into the tent and checks him over as he groans in pain*

Arthur: His lance . . . pierced my armor.

Gwen: You’re losing too much blood!

Arthur: Do what you can. I have to be back on the course in five minutes or I forfeit the match.

Gwen: You can’t possibly joust, you’re too badly injured!

Arthur: I have never withdrawn from a match.

*Gwen fixes him with a look that is half annoyance and half concern*

Arthur: I do not intend to start now.

Gwen: You would risk your life to protect your pride? You have nothing to prove, least of all to me.

*Arthur smiles at her through his pain*

Arthur: I have everything to prove. To myself.

*Gwen backs off but watches him with concern as he puts on his helmet*

        Scene 9:

*Outside, Arthur is fully armored and on his horse while Gwen stands on the ground beside him*

Arthur: You’ll have to pass me my lance.

        Gwen: This is madness.

*Arthur says nothing as he heads for the field*

        *Merlin rushes up to Gwen*

        Merlin: Where’s Arthur?

        Gwen: He’s about to joust.

Merlin: He’s jousting against the assassin!

*They both rush off, concerned and manic*

*Merlin saves the day, and Arthur wins the tournament while Gwen looks ready to cry with relief and still some worry on the sidelines*

        Scene 10:

*‘William‘, Merlin, Arthur and Gwen are all gathered in the tent as Merlin gives Arthur the rundown of what happens, minus his magic use of course*

Merlin: The people are waiting for their champion.

        *Arthur is thinking things over*

Merlin: It’s time to reveal yourself.

*They all wait for what Arthur is going to say/do. Arthur motions to ‘William’*

Arthur: You must go and collect the trophy.

        *Gwen looks surprised*

Gwen: I thought this was going to be your moment of glory.

        *Arthur looks at Gwen*

Arthur: Perhaps this is the time for humility.

*Gwen smiles at him, looking proud, as Arthur motions for ‘William’ to go outside*

*’William’ takes in the crowd, as a cloaked Arthur, Merlin and Gwen watch, smiling and laughing*

        Scene 11:

*Arthur is in the Throne Room, addressing his father. Gwen is also in the room, though on the sidelines. Arthur is bandaged up across his chest.*

Arthur: The assassin attacked us as we returned to Camelot. I was injured whilst killing him.

Uther: Odin must be made to pay for his actions. We must strike back at him.

Arthur: Surely you understand the grief he feels for the loss of his son. We should try to make peace with him. There’s been enough bloodshed.

*Uther looks surprised, but concedes the point, while Gwen smiles at Arthur*

Uther: Perhaps you are right. How was the rest of your trip? Fruitful?

        *Arthur nods*

        Arthur: Very.

*He looks sideways in Gwen’s direction as he speaks to his father, and Gwen smiles*

Arthur: I learned a great deal. How was the tournament?

Uther: Excellent. We have a new champion. Sir William of Daehra.

*Arthur grins, trying to hold back a laugh*

Arthur: I’m sorry I missed all the excitement.

*He looks at Gwen again, who smiles, and Arthur finally sobers*

        Scene 12: (Final Scene)

*Everyone exit’s the throne room. Arthur and Gwen exit last. She is walking in the opposite direction, but he stops and calls out to her as his father and the others have gone on ahead*

        Arthur: Guinevere . . .

*Arthur clears his throat as she walks up to him*

Arthur: What happened while I was staying with you . . .

*They look at each other seriously*

Arthur: I’m afraid my father would never understand.

Gwen: You don’t have to explain. Perhaps when you are king, things will be different.

*They still look at each other seriously, and a bit sad*

*Uther calls for his son down the cloister, and Arthur turns away from Gwen to join up with the others*

*Gwen watches him go and just before he reaches his father, Arthur turns his head over his shoulder to gaze at her. Finally Gwen turns about and goes her separate way.*

*Sad romantic music was playing for this scene.*

Yeah, we can't talk about that in here until a week has gone by, for one week spoiler reasons.

We can talk about it in the Arwen spoiler thread however.

                You're welcome.

I have loved every episode this year. "Merlin' is my favorite show, and I'm pretty sure I qualify as an 'obsessed Arwen fanatic'

I sent a co-worker the gif of Arthur looking at Gwen right before he kissed her. She told me I needed help, but I don't want it. I revel in my obsession. Muahahaha!

My brother Derek finally got around to catching up on this season and his comment for this episode was . . .

Derek: "I don't know why he's giving her the sad eyes. Damn fool gets to marry her anyway in the end."

Me: "You're such a sensitive soul . . . and he doesn't know he is going to marry her. He's not psychic, and they'll likely have a lot of tough roads to cross before it ever gets to that point."

Derek: "You're definitely over thinking the whole thing."

                Me: "Bite me."

                :P I told him didn't I? Hehehe.

I sooo can't wait for this week's episode.

I realized something about the music and Arwen today as I was yes, rewatching TO&FQ (steeling myself for the weekend).

Last year, in Series 1, Rob Lane's music was release on iTunes and the song "Guinevere" is the high pitched violin song we associate with the "song of EPIC ROMANCE". BUT, as I listened closely here's what I notice:
                      - When Gwen is expressing her feelings, it's the violins playing the song as in last year - very poignant an gentle
                      - When Arthur is expressing his feelings, it's deeper horns playing the same song but stronger, more epic
                      - When Gwen and Arthur kiss, both violins and horns are going at the same time and its both poignant and epic

Now, perhaps everyone else already picked this up, but I'm going to use this as future proof -- this is the one true pair -- they have their own theme song!

Now, we'll see what happens to the music this week and if my opinion is revisited.

Wow! What an observation. I would miss so much if it wasn't for you and the other fans who point stuff like this out.

It's amazing that they out so much thought into the music and it does seem to indicate that theirs is the love story of this version.

Is it ok if I post this elsewhere because I think a lot of people would love to know it. I would credit you of course.

Thank you. I went back and watched those scenes again and grinned my head off. Of course my sister walked in and as she must hate everything I love, tutted loudly at my luncay and walked out. She doesn't get it when I obsess over my shows
