Easy Solution to Lionel's Problem

Since Clark didn't believe Lionel and he still wanted to protect Clark, why didn't Lionel just destroy his key? He knew Lex would be after it so why did he decide to hide it instead of destroy it. If it was destroyed, Lex wouldn't have been able to open the box in Zurich. Thus crisis averted!

That.. would sort of have ruined the whole Veritas storyline(which wasn't well thought out from the get go).

And Lionel was clearly not in his right mind during the end.

I never really liked the Veritas story at all. It ruined the whole season IMO. This giant threat Clark had to deal with was so easy to avoid yet they made a huge deal out of it.
