When is Chuck getting to kick ass?

He's definitely going to be doing a lot less of that this season. Look at the pilot: he had several crowning moments of awesome as John Carmichael, and Casey suggested he be brought in as a CIA analyst.

i dont think he will ever get over his screaming and ducking completely because that is what makes chuck different from casey and sarah, if he was able to kick ass himself he wouldn't need to rely on either of them as much as he does, and therefore the shows plot would become distorted.

I agree with Jake. Part of the dynamic of the show is the contrast between the trained professionals (Sarah and Casey) and the guy who "lucked" into working with them (Chuck). Making Chuck as brave as they are would take away that contrast. They have gradually improved his courage, though. Swinging from that sign like he did on the last show was something he never would have done before he had the intersect. Remember, he's not officially CIA or NSA. Most of his bravery seems to come from him wanting to keep Sarah safe, not from rigorous training.

The show's not about Chuck being Chuck. It's about Chuck, who was thrown into the lowest of situations, developing and growing out of this situation into the greatness he was always intended to achieve.

i agree that chuck is capable of growing into that role, however, the point i was trying to make was that if he would grow into that anytime soon the show may loose it's charm and lighthearted undertones that are present throughout many of the episodes. i do think that come the last season of this show, whenever that may be, he will definitely become more capable of standing up for himself.
