I knew it was going to be the turtle but I'm at a loss as to how this is going to help Parkman figure out how to get back and how to take back control over this future.

I also still don't get the 'seeing the future' ability. Was that a hallucinogen that he was given?

I don't think the turtle is his real animal guide. I can see it now. The African told Parkman that he had to look at his dream to find his animal spirit guide, and as far as I could tell, the only animal in that future was Mr. Muggles. I think it would be really funny if Mr. Muggles turned out to be Matt's spirit guide. I have been saying it since the beginning of the show, there is something not right with that Mr. Muggles there is more to him than meets the eye.

I reckon the painting power worked because of a combination of the hallucinogen and his pre-existing psychic power. I know precognition and telepathy are pretty different, but they are both psychic powers as apposed to freezing or running fast. Remember that Isaac needed heroin to paint at first, until he realised he could do it without. Maybe Parkman can do the same?
