View Full Version : Thoughts on Sylar
So now that we have a bit of insight into Sylar and his ability and now that Peter has that ability. I think that them teaming up would be a great idea. Since Peter seems to not be able to save the world by himself and Sylar seems to plan things out a bit more.
Then they could be on the run together in the next volume.
After seeing one possible future for Sylar, I have to say that I love the character even more. That he has all the power but has gained control over it. A lot different than a future he would have gotten S1.

How far in the future were these epsiodes? I am all confused now because of Five Years Gone. Was that future only if the world ended in volume one?
I would say I can see them teaming up. They sort of balance each other out.
I think Five Years Gone was that particular future. That future no longer exists. The future that now exists is the one based off of events that happened in S2 and now in the beginning of S3.
It kinda seems like no matter what, the Heroes need to keep saving the future from themselves......

it was cool to see sylar good...then when his son died..i was like "uh oh bad sylar is coming out"

I have trouble believing that. Sylar's ability gave him a hunger for more power, but why would Peter have that if just being around someone is enough to give him a new ability?

I guess Sylar's ability is figuring things out and the NEED for that is like an addiction.
But I don't think that Peter or Sylar are lost forever - future Sylar was proof that he could get control and live a semi-normal life. It wasn't until he lost his son that he blew up!

I think they were 4 years in the future.
I think it's apparent that Sylar's powers are much like an addiction. Or as Sylar refers to it a "hunger".
Sylar seems to have gained some level of control over this "hunger" in the future...with the proper motivation (family), but Peter's emotional volatility make him a wild card with these powers, IMHO.

I was thinking more than 4 years - I mean his kid looked like he was 5 or 6 and then you have to add a year or two for Sylar to find that special someone and settle down, learn his ability etc. There would also be time for the future to develop the abilities and the syrum etc.
Of course, that's just my opinion.

I'd agree, it will be hard for Peter to control it, if he cannot control it he'll be the major villian in this season, I like that! I like the storyline, it's going great~ no wonder y heroes is popular worldwide. The show makes us think alot ...and makes us think like CRAZY!

well, maybe this will help Peter grow up. Or else be able to explore his powers more. Maybe he'll figure out how to 'discard' powers that he no longer wants to have etc. As long as Peter doesn't give in then I think he'll stand a chance.
But I kinda want to see them flip for a bit - Sylar be the sane one (semi sane) and Peter roaming around crazed.

I really enjoyed watching Sylar this episode. He was one of the main highlights for me.
It was great seeing him all "good guy" now, and he even has a son! Who would have thought? I thought it was HRG at first, but then  holy crap it's Sylar. I thought naming the son Noah was a nice homage to HRG, but that paints the question, did something bad happened to HRG? Hmm..
Bad ass Sylar was pretty crazy. I had a feeling he would kill Knox, but didn't know that he was gonna go nukey.
The interaction between Peter and Sylar was really good too, since Peter has found out that Sylar is his brother.

i still think that peter and sylar are responsible for their actions even with the "hunger." Now we see that sylar can control it, so Peter going bad is his choice

i am more curious as to who sylar is going to marry, i mean if its a superpowered powered woman, why wouldn't sylar's hunger make him kill her?

maybe her power makes him calm? Or else he just really loves her and wanted to change.

What I want to know is how Sylar got control of the Bennet house including Mr. Muggles. I wonder if they will touch on that at all or if it is something that we'll never know because they change the future again.

Ya.. I think because of the death of his son.. the future Sylar is going to be alot different now. Sylar is probably going to turn dark again because of it. Cause I think his son was his life and was what kept him grounded and now with the loss of his son, he is probably going to be causing mad damage.. at least to the ones who killed Noah.

He does not have to use it all the time, right? Peter can simply ignore it or use it when he needs to and hopefully restrain himself from cutting some poor persons head open.
He doesn't have to feel that hunger that Sylars talking about.
For example Peter can choose to be invisible or not .
Just a thought.

Sylar's power is confusing. it seems like the "hunger" is a side effect of his original power - therefore the "hunger" will always be present. I'm hoping as the season progresses we get more insight into Sylar's and Peter's power. They are the two most intriguing and yet confusing characters.
I still don't understand why Sylar's ability requires Peter to slice heads open. Someone on another thread mentioned that Sylar's hunger was for knowledge and understanding rather than power, but again, Peter doesn't need to cut the person's head open in order to gain that knowledge. It still doesn't make sense to me.

I think Sylar's ability includes massive curiosity on how things work. And Peter can't SEE into the person's head to see how it's working so he'd still have to cut it open to look at it - regardless if he can absorb the abilities or not - I think that the hunger to see how it works overpowers some of his other abilities.
I think that he will need to learn to control it and push it back because he doesn't really need Sylar's ability unless it's way more than just seeing how things work. I hope they further explain why Sylar's ability is what Peter needed to assist in saving the world this time. Unless it has to do with understanding how the formula works etc.

yeah as syler calls it a 'hunger' because he NEEDS it, he has to see how things work and it gives him more knowledge, he thrives on it :). That is why he killed nathan, even though he has his powers he just had to see how his powers 'worked' and find out why nathan would think like that, or something lol

Agreed.
I thought Sylar lost all his old abilities except TK? ^^ So that's why he had to start his 'list' again to build up his abilities?

Actually I understand why he needed the power - he needs to see how certain events in the past will influence the future (there was something mentioned in the episode about how variables fit together or something, I can't remember the exact line). But to see how the brain works, that shouldn't require him to cut open too many heads, should it? All he'd need to do is to force someone into a CAT scan, unless he's just really really impatient, and then I could see the Pez dispenser solution as being legit.

I think he lost most of them, although apparently his disappearing act (however he does it) is still working as well, since he did it to sneak up on Claire. But I have no idea how many of his powers he lost.

He didn't lose any of his abilities, this is a misunderstanding. He has all of his former powers that he acquired from before the virus. They already shown his original ability (intuitive aptitude) and his telekinesis; plus his future self was shown painting the future and going nuclear.
