Some fans, I won't say a lot because I don't really know if it is a lot or not, think that the show is too different. 'I' think that's a good thing.

I really miss Lex, Lana not so much, and I do miss the Kents (Martha and Jonathan)

It is set more in Metropolis than Smallville, but really? I had seven years of most of that, and I think there is point where Clark has to actually grow up before he actually becomes Superman. This is still the pre-story, it is just that it is that much closer to the mythos we are familiar with.

That's not so bad, I don't think, and I really like it. I think the writing is quite a bit better from a sense of two episodes. There is continuity, and I love that.

Not all the time, there are still plot holes, things going on in offscreenville, but I actually like this season so far. The first two episodes were really good and I'm enjoying Smallville quite a bit.

Odyssey was awful beyond belief. Everything was repetative, far stretched, and stupid. It suggested it might be time give up on the show completely.

But Plastique was great. They introduced an awesome new character (Bette). Tess got more interesting. But most importantly, we're seeing Clark move on to a new chapter of his life. It's not just pointless dragging things out like it has been the last 3 seasons or so..... They just need to give Clark glasses.

Someone mentioned that the title Smallville still fits because that's how Lois calls Clark. The show seems like it has a renewed fire.Just like it did at the beggining of season 5.People shouldn't be too hard on Odyssey.PS3 were trying to tie up manu of Almiles' ideas.I am all about Clark moving forward but one thing worries me.This series is supposed to end with Clark completing the training and becoming Superman. On the evidence of the last 2 episodes he is already doing a lot of stuff Superman would.I am worried that when the time comes for him to train it will seem like a step back not one step forward.

I appreciate the direction they are taking the show in regards to Clark. And I actually like that they are moving more of the show out Smallville. Regardless of the shows name, there was no way to have Clark being in Smallville all the time and not have that be detrimental to his character. Besides, as Clark's nickname is "Smallville", you could say the title refers to him as much as the small town.

I do think some of their execution is rushed, and leaves something to be desired. It really wouldn't have hurt to allow a bit more development in some areas.

I happen to believe the show was desperately in need of shaking out of the status quo. Looking at it purely from a Clark fan's POV, yes, I'd have to to say the show is better so far then the last season was. For Clark, at least.

In some adaptations he becomes Superman by choice so I can dig him doing Superman stuff. Sure beats him moping over Lana for 9 episodes before she comes back they are back together, break up, Clark mopes more, and then at the end of the season Jor-El or Martian Manhunter come & tell him that he needs to destroy Doomsday with their crystal thingy or he'll die, earth doomed bla bla bla.

The show IS different. I really like the place things are heading BUT the thing is the transition has not been as smooth as it should have been. The change for Clark and Lois and mainly Clark, came rather suddenly. It needed a little bit more explaining.

i think it's a little bit too early to say if it's better, but it's definitely different, i mean with new characters and different writers, it's bound to change. personally i dont feel like there's enough action, a little bit too much drama even though it's good drama, especially with lois and clark.

I like the new season, tremendously. The writers and producers are finally doing with Clark and Lois what they should have done two years ago at the start of season six. I can tell that the relationship between Lois and Clark is going to be a factor in the show, but it will not consume the show. Whereas clana and did. I mean, for the past two years that was all the show ultimately was about. They might have thrown in Superman stuff, but when you boil it down. It came down to relationship most of us really did not care for. For some years and so many lame excuses. So yes, I think smallville has been rejuvenated it feels like it did for season six at least it feels that way to me. Their stuff starting to happen and I do not mind that is happening slowly in my opinion that is good, because when we finally get answers to questions that will probably be nagging at us all season. We will be really blown away by the answers. One more thing I actually started to see Lois and Clark develop into the characters we know and it is only the second episode.

I like it so far but I'm not sure it is better but rather different. I think Tom is taking it up a notch to portray Clark as moving on and being heroic to strangers while working at the Planet. I can't quite pin point it but Clark is different now than when on the farm. It is one of those subtle differences. Chloe seems different this week as well. More grown up maybe. Lois is more self assured as a reporter and taking Clark under her wing as expected. I love the look on Clark's face when Lois turns away from him. Like, "Oh no, how much of this am I going to have to endure." I'm liking the new villians but afraid I might have to cover my eyes when Davis turns into Doomsday. I don't like too much horror. I think the new storylines is what was needed to draw in more viewers. I'm excited to see where Smallville is going this season.

It's obvious that the show is changing, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. And true, like others have said, the transitions, such as Clark's and Lois', have been a bit sudden, but I believe that this is mainly because of the old execs, Gough and Millar. Don't get me wrong, I've been a huge fan of smallville since it began and Gough and Millar did amazing things with the show, but I feel like they just wanted to keep the show as a story about Superman's youth as much as possible. The problem is that Clark, and other characters, are obviously growing up. Clark is getting dangerously close to the age where he becomes Superman, and where his alter ego becomes a reporter. I think the new execs realize this, and they are being forced to make transitions very quickly, especially if this will be the last season. We've all been expecting the show to end with Clark finally embracing his destiny and becoming Superman, but that can't happen until the characters progress further.

I agree, especially with what you've said about the "rushed execution". It wouldn't have hurt if they had given us a two-part premiere, where they e.g. could have explained more about Clark's decision, why all of a sudden, he decided to work at the DP etc.

I'm still having problems to accept this lightswitch decision of his. It feels that I've missed some episodes and started to watch again recently. It makes me sad and angry especially when I think about the time, they wasted with Clana....but well, that's in the past now, we can't change it anyway :(

It is definetly a "new" direction, but actually it only feels "new" because they didn't gave us time to adjust to the new state of minds of the characters, but thrown us all into the cold water, so-to-speak.

For now I think the show is getting better again, even if I have the odd felling that I'm watching "Lois& Clark" with other actors.

The actors seem to be more enthusiastic about the new direction either and that shows in their acting.

Let's hope it stays this way till the end of the season.

No, it's not just you, 'mytvtalk', and I know it's not Just Me. IMHO, Smallville Really, Really IS 'Good', and 'Better' because it IS Different and Changed to a point where I personally feel Clark should be at this time in his life. Everything he has endured and learned during the past 7 years is enough to have given him the right perspective to cause an obvious Change in his Attitude. It's easy for me to assume that he's been evolving slowly from deep within, and loosely quoting Smallville dialogue, "It's Finally floated to the top and bubbled over." Although, I think that it should be revealed sometime that both Clark & Lois have been 'Secretly' (in Offscreenville) taking an Online College course in Journalism for the past couple of years. They could surprise each other ...And Us.

Good idea, but it wouldn't be believable if they'd say something like that. When should Clark have had the time last season to go to a college course....? Maybe Lois but he...no way!
It would only be ridiculous if they let him say something like that. So better leave it that way......

The new Smallville is really good again. It different, more grown, but in a way has the feel of the Smallville of the first couple of seasons.
