View Full Version : Flannel or Fashionable?

I finally like the fact that Clark is stepping out of the whole 'Farm Boy' image. Including, but not limited to, his new dress attire. For me it adds to the Metropolis feel when Clark dresses the part. No more flannel, even though he went back to flannel again in this episode. What say you?

Time to retire the flannel, although I believe in "everything in moderation." It drove me crazy last season that all he wore was the jacket/t-shirt red/blue combo.

I gotta admit after seeing him dressed up and then seeing him in Flannel with Chloe didn't look right to me. At least he isn't wearing his usual combo but still Flannel just not cool anymore lol.

I do understand why he changed since he wasn't at work and is more comfortable in his Flannel and jeans !! I mean who seriously is dressed up like that all day everyday?

The phone booth gag was funny, too; it reminded me of similiar moments in "Exile" and "Vengeance".

I like flannel to sleep in on really cold winter nights; Clark in flannel would be just perfect.
And red is my favorite color. Can't go wrong there. However I do admit that red plaid flannel along with a backpack is not the professional journalist image, and Lois was right on him to correct the error of his ways.

I forgot to mention the jacket/shirt combos. We have got to get away from those as well as someone already mentioned.

Definitely keep the flannel at home. He's gotta be taken seriously at the Planet!

The Great Ymmij

At the Planet, he should wear dress clothes. Anywhere else, he should wear w/e he wants whether it be flannels or even his jacket/t-shirt combo.

Of course at the planet he has to dress professional and I like the way he looks too, the flannel is old news...time for change

Ok I liked the plaid up until last season maybe s6 but that was when he actually had a wardrobe (season 1 especially he actually wore different clothes not just red blue tshirt)it would be ridiculous to keep him in plaid now besides he's HOT IN this new look lol

The weird thing is that he hasn't worn the flannel for awhile now... he was wearing his blue shirt/red jacket combo or red shirt/blue jacket combo for the most part. So having him show up to work in flannel was a little weird.

Of course, I prefer the nice clothes.

Ummmm am I nuts? I thought the red shirt was not flannel, but rather plaid cotton (flannel's equally unappealing cousin). Now I have to re-watch it... Gotta admit, I have always liked Clark when he is dressed up, but I don't mind the t-shirts and jeans (just please not the jacket!) What I really hate is when they dress him in baggy clothing. I know that he is a slim man and they are trying to add "visual bulk" by dressing him that way, but I think he looks so much better in more fitted clothing.

I did have a moment when he emerged from the phone booth where I thought he looked like he had raided Lex's closet...

My favorite is still the $2,000 coat that came with a backbone... ;)

I loved the new look. The dress attire is fabulous.

I actually do like the flannel, but I wish he'd wear it like Papa Kent did. White shirt underneath with a flannel shirt over it. He did that when he was teaching Kara her heat vision last year, and it looked hot. But, not when he's working at the DP.

I loved Lois' comment about saving him from becoming Farmboy or Flannel-man.

I also loved how he innocently commented to her, "This is a nice shirt." That was cute.

Some variety is really what I'm looking for. Yes, have the blue shirt and red jacket, but NOT EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!

This is much better.

09-26-2008, 06:57 PM
I want to see him in sweaters again! (Sigh)

Well, anything but the red jacket, and please burn the backpack - isn't that his high school backback? I think he looked at his ID and though "oops, this isn't the Torch".

Time to give up the farm boy clothes, and step into Metropolis duds. Even casual, he should give up the plaids and go to something more modern. I haven't seen a real person wear a plaid in ages.

It would have been interesting to see Tess' reaction to Clark in the flannel; maybe he'll wear it in her presence in the future. Or maybe not.

We question Clark's wardrobe choices, however this will also ultimately be the guy who runs around in tights and a cape with his underwear showing. Flannel and plaid seem pretty harmless in comparison.

Looks like Clark's having problems letting go of the things that are near and dear to him. But if he's going to start living in Metropolis and working at the DP he's definitely gotta dress the part. Leave the plaid shirts for those spring cleaning events.

Well, taking into consideration that the red t-shirt and that blue jacket had stuck to him like a second skin all last season, only to be swaped by the blue t-shirt and red jacket (someone should explain the concept of mix&match to this guy), it's nice to see a change in outfit at last.

Not to mention he's absolutely hot in the blue shirt.

Personally I think the whole farmboy shirt thing was just a plot device.

Clark has smart clothes, he wore some when he accompanied Chloe as a reporter to the court house. Admittedly he has mostly only ever worn them for weddings and funerals

I just thought who the hell turns up to their first day at a job in jeans and a plaid shirt and a rucksack - what the hell!!! Just the thought is insane, Clark isn't that stupid.

Well, because Clark is a simple guy and this show is still called Smallville (I hope we get scenes that take place in Smallville soon), I think he should still sport a flannel shirt every once in a while until he moves to Metopolis & gets an apartment there.

ANyone else have a total "Torch" flashback when Clark came into the DP wearing flannel and with a backpack on his shoulder? He looked, to me, like back in his high school days when he'd help Chloe on the Torch.

But yeah, nice to see him wearing a suit (though I notice he's not got the tie on yet!).

The flannel is good for farmboy!Clark, for when he's relaxing. The suit is for reporter!Clark, IMO>

I was watching the ep. again on Sunday and the thought struck me that Clark has, in terms of how he LOOKS, outgrown his flannel shirt. He looks more man then boy now,
even compared to season 5 when (I think?) he was still wearing it a lot.

I mean, in the premiere, I think my hormones were confused, (LOL! Um, sorry. Really tired here.), because he looked soooo manly and I'm way used to him looking more boyish, I guess. What I mean to say is, for me it's jarring seeing him "change" so suddenly from Clark Kent:Farm Boy to Clark Kent: Reporter and all around Manly Man. It's a good change, but I think it came as a shock to me. Now I have to get used to it. (And I will, gladly!! Woot!)

I think he looks great in just t-shirts (you can't look too boyish in one of those), but I just love the new reporter look, too. Okay, there's my two cents.

I do understand why he changed since he wasn't at work and is more comfortable in his Flannel and jeans !! I mean who seriously is dressed up like that all day everyday?

I don't know, there are some days where I wind up staying in work clothes all day until I go to bed. Even a few times I came home so exhausted that I actually went and laid down in my work clothes. Really it is the more the shoes I'm in a hurry to get off, and nylons when I have to wear them.

As for everyday though, lol, yeah. When I have a day off I wear the laziest clothes that I own.

----- Added 6 Minutes later -----

He did look ridiculous walking into the DP with a flannel shirt on with his press pass, lol. But in the past there were times that it seemed a more casual environment. I know Lois wore jeans to work before but I also know that Chloe wore more casual shirts on occasion too. Jimmy had though casual button down short sleeves a lot too. A lot of times it was more dress-casual than dress.

It seems the DP in general has gotten more formal. I don't think I even saw any extras in Plastique walking around in casual clothes. Clark looked great and very grown up in the dress shirt and pants.

That Etta James song "At Last" came to mind when I saw him in the dress clothes. For a couple of years now, I've been Begging for Clark to change his "red/blue" wardrobe, even though I know it's supposed to symbolize his Superman costume. TW looks good in everything, but I was so, so, sick-sick-sick of his jackets and T-shirts. Now, I only hope that he'll wear 'other' colors besides Blues of different hues in his new dress shirt wardrobe. He now looks like a young Professional on his way 'up' in his new job.
