If Tess Mercer's goal is to find Lex, is there a possibility Micheal could be back for a few episodes? Remember Lex Luthor likes wigs!

Rosenbaum is done. It's not just about shaving his head. He's bored with the same role and wants to pursue new endeavors. He really has no interest in doing the show anymore. He's said this countless times, and even expressed confusion at the producers comment that "you haven't seen the last of Lex Luthor". At Dragon*Con in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago he basically said "uhhh I don't know what they were talking about. You have seen the last of Lex. I'm moving forward" (paraphrased) So sadly, much as I'd like to see a guest appearance, he seems resolute and it doesn't look like he'll be changing his mind any time soon.

Yeah, I've understood that MR is pretty "done" with Lex Luthor, too. But dammit ....that just BREAKS my pathetic heart. I want Lex back. If nothing else, at LEAST for the series finale! The series just isn't the same without him. :( My favorite part of Smallville - the REASON I have stuck with the show all these years is because of the Lex/Clark and Lex/Lionel relationships. I could care less about Lana, Chloe (well, I DO like Chloe!) Lois, Pete, Kara, blahblahblah.

he can say really w/e he wants and he is a great actor but lets see what happens later on if time goes by and no movie deal or because he is mostly noticed as lex luther and not for his other work. I mean seriously "sorority girls, kickin it old skool, i know what you did last summer, bringing down the house". In none of those have we seen the type of talant, charisma, and energy that he put into lex luther, so if no movie deal comes anytime soon he might want an extra paycheck and he knows that smallville would be more than happy to have him so lets just see what happens, my point is its that you never know whats going to happen in this business

Is MR very absolute about NOT coming back even for at most one episode or even a five minute appearance? This is just too sad. Maybe I'd prefer it if they have a new guy playing Lex this season.

He said he's absolutely finished. And as for someone else taking on the role, I couldn't disagree more. MR owns this role in this show. Re-casting would be nothing more than a bad cop-out. It would be really great if Lex returned in the series finale. Even if it was just one slow-mo shot of Lex walking into his office in the newly-renamed LexCorp Tower, standing behind his desk, and looking out the window up to a blue and red streak across the clear blue sky...

As much as I respect RosenBOMB's decision I have to say I'm pissed at him at the same time. I mean, not even a GUEST appearance? You know how tortuous it is for me to hear people say "We have to find Lex.." "Lex is missing..." knowing that he's not coming back? You know how torturous it's gonna' be to see Clark or some other nameless scientist waltz into Lex's room, and not see him standing by his fireplace or sitting at his desk looking dark/menacing/contemplative? Granted, this Tess Mercer character is very intriguing but it's just not the same....so in a selfish way a two minute guest appearance, at the very least, would suffice and I don't see what the trouble would be.

I have to agree. MR is the best Lex, IMHO, of all incarnations.

As others have said, Michael is done with the show. :( It's truely such a sad thing.

The series just isn't the same without him. :( My favorite part of Smallville - the REASON I have stuck with the show all these years is because of the Lex/Clark and Lex/Lionel relationships.
I know, don't you just want to see him in this new setting? He would have been amazing. With Clark finally in the adult world and moving towards being Superman, the battle between them would have been awesome. And I really think the writers would've treated Lex with more respect than AlMiles did in season 7.

As much as I respect RosenBOMB's decision I have to say I'm pissed at him at the same time. I mean, not even a GUEST appearance?
I understand how you feel. If he wants to move on, then fair enough. He says he's writing and hoping to direct comedies, but really, what's he done since leaving the show? I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm a fan of his and I also respect his decision, I just wish he was part of this new direction. :( Tom seems to be happier, maybe the new writers would have given Lex better stories to keep Michael challenged.

I know! Seeing Tess walk around his office was almost too much for me. The fact that Lex is never coming back hit home. :(

Granted, this Tess Mercer character is very intriguing but it's just not the same.
I'm willing to give her a fair chance, but it will never be the same. The fact that they have to bring in all these villains to try and replace Lex just goes to show what a huge impact he made.

I have to agree. MR is the best Lex, IMHO, of all incarnations.
I agree 100%. He has defined the role. He was awesome.

I work with MR's uncle, and he said the show offered him a s***load of money. Like a LOT, to come back for five episodes, and he said no way. So, yeah. Don't count on Lex. He did say however, that he was maybe considering doing some voice over. I'm thinking maybe phone calls? Hey, it's better than nothing.

Couldn't they just use some old footage and edit it so it looks like he came back in the finale? It would work for me. :o

If only he was more greedy! I guess he must have been really - really - fed up of shaving his hair and playing Lex.

Maybe they should offer the part to Kevin Spacey.

As much as I respect Michael and am thankful for all that he has brought us over the past seven years...I just wish he had enough respect for the show/fans to give us the ending which we all deserve...The show can't end without knowing what happened to him but unfortunately that is the way it will end...He's done with the show and wants to move forward. I think the majority of us here want this season to be the last and it would be awesome just to see Lex one last time, even if it is for the sake of five minutes...at least it would give us clarity and closure for that matter.

I've heard they're planning a reboot to the Superman movies. Maybe the actor who plays Lex Luthor in that movie could come on to Smallville for a few episodes first (at the end of the series) to bridge the gap between the two...

i believe that Lex will make an appearance towards the end of the season reguardless of what Rosenbaum has been stating

As much as I would love to see Michael Rosenbaum come back to the show, I am okay with it if he in fact does not return. I would not be okay, however, if TPTB replaced him with some other actor. I mean, come on, this is not Morgan Edge getting plastic surgery. This is Lex Luthor! No one could take Rosenbaum's place and should not even try. It's like trying to replace Tom Welling... it's just not going to work.

I think at the moment Rosenbaum is 'done' with Smallville, but after a few months he might miss the show and the crew. This is just my opinion, here it goes: I truly believe that if the show's writers can give him a compelling enough story, he'll come back. What's compelling? That's a good question, and I don't have an answer, but if it comes down to the last episode of the series and we must find Lex, I just have a hard time believing he wouldn't do it. Hey, it took a few tries, but Pete came back - so anything is possible.

Lex must come back. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't..Can't Dawn throw a bunch of $$$ at him for 5 minutes of screen time??
