Yep, it was obviously Jor-El, even though Martian Manhunter and Clark think the Fortress is destroyed for good and there is no way to get advice from Jor-El. Unless MM just wanted Clark to believe all that so he would step up and do things on his own.

i dont buy the MM angle. it was the fortress/jor el that saved them

It's actually a good question. There was no trace whatsoever of the huge ice columns that once made up the fortress. They all just disappeared. Maybe they just sank into the ocean and refroze. Either way, that spot won't be where the FOS is rebuilt after all that. I wonder if the FOS will be built in the Amazon the 2nd time around like in the comics after Superman & Wonder Woman destroyed it.

^ Very cool but doubtful. The amazon angle fell apart because everyone discovered that too. I think it will go far deeper into the tundra where no one can get to it like they redid in the comics with the crystals in one year later, up up and away

i think Antarctica would be a good hiding spot. It would be impossible for any human to survive there.

i didn't think the FOS was just ice... i thought it was crystal...

Global warming...

j/k. The FOS collapsed back into the crystal. Lex's people must have found the crystal in the arctic because Tess had it in a briefcase in the Luthor mansion.

The Fortress was shaped out of the Arctic ice to form into what Krypton looked like and was, an ice planet. You have heard the term "ashes to ashes, dust to dust." I believe that when the Fortress fell, it went back to the same shape it came from which is plain ice but not before Clark walked out. This left the crystal exposed...I hope it takes awhile for Clark to find the crystal so the plot can build and be dramatic and action packed.

Well it obviously did have ice along with some crystal, though the ice was probably modified into stronger Kryptonian ice by the crystal.

Or maybe Clark is seriously involved in drug dealing and built it out of his own personal stash of "ice". :)

The crystal that Clark threw into the ice created the fortress. It seems reasonable to assume that when Lex activated the orb in the final scene of season 7 the crystal that created the FOS performed some sort of molecular deconstruction. We must remember that the Kryptonians are masters of crystal technology. This is just a theory.

its a fair point to ask tbh and its not a stupid question

it would take something like clarks super heat vision to melt the fortress in the speed that it collapsed whereas a normal increase in temperature would take decades

that explains the russian part of the premiere haha! thats what clark must owe the guy money for

clark: hey dude! i need as much ice as i can get!

russian: wat for?

clark: erm................A FORTRESS!!

I think Ollie's line immediately after 'i think there is a punch line to that question' sort of redeems it though... they know that ice melts, but the ice fortress dissapearing is still acceptably baffling

and for once i'm defending Smallville
