Not to mention one of the two best closing montages of all SV episodes. The two best closing sequences for me are Arrival's to Depeche Mode's Precious (climaxing with Brainiac's "growth" from the oil from the black ship) and the closing montage in Covenant.

I think Arrival is the best premiere epi of all seven seasons. Hopefully, Odyssey will top it- I hope SV season 8 will be the coolest one so far. We'll just have to wait and see.:\

"Arrival" and "Crusade were equally good, but I have to give a tiny edge to "Crusade": We got to see Clark (as Kal-El) fly, a shot that they have continued to use in the credits. Plus Lois Lane (as played by the gorgeous Erica Durance) finally showed up in Smallville!

I like...all of the premieres. Esp. Vortex, because that´s what first got me interested in Smallville. The first time I saw the show. I heard the name...Clark...and I was thinking...Kent? And then I´`m like OMG. Then lex, I was like...they are friends?

Then Lana...she didn´t have red hair but she looked alright and then Martha Kent, the REAL Lana Lang.

Then...the super speed, and xray vision looked different but intersting. I was all amazed.

i loved ARRIVAL with the whole FOS rising; however, this episode just had it all. i actually could see the difference with the whole passing of the stick to the new guys, and it just seems a new fire. i am curious to see where the show is going this season ... especially with the whole crystal thing : )

same here and it's hard to top those season premires but i think this was pretty well...GOOD! and i loved the plot and wrapped up allot of problems that plagued the finale from season 7 so all in all it was good

Zod is my altime favorite premier. Despite the dissapointingly short fight at the end i thought it was awesome (too bad the rest of season 6 didnt keep the momentum). Next on my list are exile, arrival, bizzaro, odessy, crusade, vortex, pilot.

Crusade and Odyssey are my favorites and I liked Odyssey more than Crusade. I'm going to post what I posted in a similar thread.


I think there was a lot more adult/intelligent writing in this premiere than there has been in others. As always though it seemed to be trying to do too much in one episode. Seems to be a chronic problem in SV premieres, but I actually liked this one a lot.

We even got to see Lex, Martha and Lana in the lead up scenes. I thought they'd leave them out of it because they aren't in the season, well one of them is but much later. Then Clark saw Lana and his Mother before he died and one of the scenes was at Jonathan's funeral. That was a nice touch.

Which later lead to him saying that he'd written eulogies but he never really let go. That was a nice line and he embraced his destiny all of his own accord. Then Martian Manhunter handed him his red jacket as if, to me anyway, symbolizing the red cape of Superman. VERY nice scene.

I don't know, but I actually thought the writing was a lot tighter in this episode and less all over the place as it has been before. Like with Chloe reading off the numbers and tying in with the scenes of Lex's people capturing Aquaman and Black Canary. Nice shot direction there I thought. Nearly all the cast, minus Tess and Jimmy, wound up in one location at one point in the story which was nice.

The 'epic' orchestra-like scores were used at good times as well I think. In the past they've used it during scenes where it didn't really fit. But tonight the music was, I thought, spot on with the moments they used it for.

Clark felt VERY much like a nascent Superman tonight and that gave me a tremendous feeling. It also was made clear as to why. That Clark had actually done some thinking. It wasn't just a flash point, but more like an epiphany that was made clear. He had been holding onto the past for too long and he knew it was time to leave the farm, so to speak and step out into the big bad world. That 'loft scene' was also well placed I thought.

In fact I only had one placement issue. I think the DP scene with Lois and Clark should have been placed BEFORE the scene with Clark, Arthur, Dinah and Oliver. That scene of Clark walking off into the distance of Metropolis, and the music that went along with that, fit better as the episode's final scene instead of the DP one with Lois. Though I liked both scenes. My only complaint is that they should have been switched around. In fact the JL scene felt SO much like the ending scene that I was like 'what happened to the Clois scene? Did it get cut?' but then we got it after.

Beyond that, I would've like a bit more explanation as to how Clark got hired. There has to be more to it than him just turning in an application, but if it leads to a more matured heroic Clark Kent, like we saw tonight, I'm willing to forego that. I was loving Clark, and Smallville tonight. Very good premiere I think.

I'm going to have to kneel before "Zod" on this one. Lex as the vessel and a super-powered fight equals awesome. Plus when that episode aired, I was really hoping for Lana to be pregnant with Zod's heir. LOL.

I think "Arrival" is the best overall (my favorite at least), but I think "Odyssey" was very good. It was going to be very different, not having Lex, Lana, and Lionel, but I think the show did well in integrating the new (and old) characters. I enjoyed the Justice League. Most of all, I liked it that they seemed like real friends. Clark has buddies! That made me smile. :)

So, all in all, good start to the season. I really hope it continues!

Odyssey may move up above Vortex and Zod after I watch it again. Although I thought it was a great episode and set the tone for this season, which I think is a great tone, it still was not as good as the other season premieres. Just my opinion, though.

Interesting enough everytime i see these threads the same three Episodes (Exile, Crusade, Arrival) always win by a land slide over the others. I usually disregard the over excited votes for the newness of a premiere(odyssey) because if this same question was asked a month or two from now that number would probably be alot lower:cool: but o well *shrugs* YMMV:cool:

Hmm, is this show about Clark, or people Clark knows? Some of those people died, to progress the story further, some left, and one is missing. As long as the show is about Clark progressing to becoming Superman, ("Odyssey" seems to be a big example of that and whats to come), I'll be watching.

This is a tough one to call - they have always done a great job of starting the season out with a bang. But I do like the last 4 on average much better than the first 4.

Pilot - pro - sets up everything. Back in the day, AlMiles really knew what they were doing. Cons - a lot of the acting (esp KK) felt very stilted. FX weren't nearly as good as they'll be later on.

Vortex - the weakest of a very good lot IMHO.

Exile - pros - Kal is HOT! Lex's oredeal on the island. cons - I hated seeing Clark on a bender like that. it did a LOT of damage to his character. I understand why he put on the ring given S2, but I dearly wish that when he blew up the ship, he'd got rid of the AI for good.

Crusade: pro - Kal-El flies! cons - he's a real jerk, ripping the door off the plane like that, his disrespect towards the Kents. setting up a whole season of head scratching with the godawful Lana in Paris etc.

Arrival - Great start with the new FOS. Wish the fight with the Disciples had been more dramatic.

Zod - I voted for this but could just have easily gone for Bizarro or Odyssey. Another great start with Clark fighting his way out of the PZ.

Bizarro - Pros - Lots of TW screen time. Loved the look on Clark's face after Bizarro punched him through the wall and the sun started to repower him. Con - I know there were things that bugged me, but they're not coming to mind right now. Oh yeah, that Lana in a wig scene. A few other little things like that.

Odyssey - Pros - Loved Clark's resolve to help Chloe despite his powerless state. Great bickering between Clois. Everything about Chloe's story except... Con: Chimmy. Get rid of Jimmy, please. Such a waste of screen time.

God...I love all of the episodes. I think the Pilot is a great episode, but it was the first episode, I wouldn´t include it.

The most mythoic would be Crusade (Clark flying) Arrival (Fortress of Solitude, and The Phantom Zone trap thing) Zod (General Zod, duh, Phantom Zone, and S crsytal), and Bizarro. (Yellow Sun)

I think Odyssey is not that mythoic as the others. But I love the Justice League.

I had to go with Arrival, despite its ridiculous Lana/Lex alien subplot. But purely for the FOS debut and Chloe revealing she knows Clark's powers.

Although its not the best season opener it was still good, definitely considering what PS3 were left with at the end of the last season. I mean Artic was written after the strike and was rushed out (it was good though), but it left PS3 four main cast members down (including Lionel from Descent) so not only that disadvantage but also having to introduce a replacement Lex which from the get-go wasn't going to be well recieved by some fans.

Crusade was also good. And the Pilot goes without saying.

I really liked the pilot and I think it established a lot in that one episode alone so I choose that one.

I choose "Exile." I loved that episode. It was just so fun and exciting, and it was great to see Tom playing something other than Clark. Truthfully, Clark is kind of boring and I wouldn't want to constantly play him, so I'm glad Tom gets some chances to play something else.

I also really loved most of the other premieres. It's a hard choice, but I guess I have to go:

I really like pretty much all of them and the first four/five are pretty much on the same level (why I couldn't choose between Zod and Bizarro). I do like Arrival, but it's certainly not one of my favorites. The pilot certainly got me into the show when I got S1 on DVD from the library. The beginning with the asteroids raining down is amazing. Vortex is cool with the tornado, but I don't like Johnathan and there was too much of him and that annoying reporter. And there was too much of Clark in a panic, which is where he can be very "angry" and annoying.

I haven't actually seen Crusade in quite awhile, but I do remember that I really liked it. I was going to put Odyssey second, since I love that one so much. It started off the 8th season with a very fresh feel and I think it looked fantastic. Great direction and lighting. Kinda looked like a mini-movie the whole time.

I'm really happy that my favorite show can write/produce so exciting season premieres year in and year out- makes for awesome tv viewing :) As of today, I'm finding it really hard to choose the favorite order, but the #1 is the Pilot. Without it, there wouldn't even be a show :)

Odyssey starts the era in Smallville without AlMiles in that it focuses on the Metropolis years. The new showrunners were able to do what the old showrunners wouldn't and that's to finally move Clark forward. He does so by working at the Daily Planet with Lois. It was a breath of fresh air.
