I actually wrote this on another forum, but thought I'd 'port it over here for all of you to enjoy as well. Beware, it's quite extensive and does require knowledge for events in both Buffy and Angel. Look out for in-joke references to Torchwood as well. ;p

Keep in mind everyone, this is written with the point of view that Season 8, After the Fall, and other "canon"-conisdered comics of the like aren't canon.

"Ripper" (Takes place in the year 2009):
Opening in a family home, we see a man watching a news report about very dark paranormal events going on in the town of Cardiff. Residing in London with his two kids and wife, he tells his dear "Sandra" he "must get back in the game", that "if age can improve fine wine, it might have a similar effect on a couple original Watchers". Giving his two small kids big hugs, he then kisses his wife and says how he'll need big help if he'll have a chance at stopping what's happening, "I'll need Ripper..."

Rupert Giles, by this point having given control of the new Watchers' Counsel to Xander Harris and Robin Wood, now resides retired in an old England home. He gets a visit from his old Watcher associate, Robson, whom informs him that there's chaotic trouble along the streets of Cardiff. Leaving London, Giles and Robson arrive and going into a bar, find Ethan Rayne. Giles insists on picking a fight with him with many accusations, but Ethan tries telling him how he's "past" chaos and the darkness looming isn't his doing. Unknown to the two old Watchers, Ethan hides a small girl behind him and hurriedly tells the two to look out the window next to him and go to what they see.

Heading for a warehouse where a bright light in the sky shines down through its roof, Giles and Robson go in to discover the Old One demon, Illyria, whom announces she's arrived for information from the man whom denied helping Winifred Burkle from her possession 5 years ago. Giles notices what she's levitating over and tells to Robson, "She's found a third Hellmouth..." He proceeds to ask her how she survived the apocalyptic event that wiped over L.A. after Angel betrayed Wolfram & Hart, she explains that after the battle was over and though Angel and Spike survived, she left them in the aftermath and wandered the world in search for "herself" and how to get past the grief of Wesley Wyndam-Pryce's death.

This is the first Giles hears of Wesley's death and gives a sympathetic expression, but also wondering why she didn't stay in L.A. to help repair the broken mess of the city with Angel and Spike, to which she replies how "such pathetic labor for you humans" is beneath her. Robson asks if she's responsible for the partial opening of this Hellmouth, where she replies how she merely found it and found some of its residual energies recharging her own power, "This rift between dimensions, or Hellmouth as you call it, will not be useful any longer" They all then feel a massive earthquake and up from out of this Britain Hellmouth arrives a cloaked figure, leaving Giles in shock as he can only utter "It can't be..."

The demon Eyghon has arisen, his cloak burning off to reveal him being bathed in lava, very delighted to be free with its own monstrous corporeal form. Very high and powerful off the energy from this Hellmouth, he attacks Illyria and manages to knock her yards away, then swats Robson aside and comes face-to-face with a stunned Giles, "Hello Rupert, did you think I would forget?" Giles doesn't even move, his shocked expression showing no trace of changing. With a big grin, Eyghon levitates and flies out of the warehouse, proceeding to manipulate the night clouds to rain countless insects upon Cardiff.

Managing to get back to the local bar they'd found Ethan at, Giles carries Robson into the crowded pub, walking through people squirming that're afraid to go out. He spots Ethan by a window, looking out in calm amazement. As Robson comes to in his arm, they reach Ethan, whom greets them and asks what's happened. Hearing that Eyghon is back shocks him just as much as Giles earlier, though he tries his best to conceal it. Pondering on what to do, Ethan asks if they could call Buffy, though Giles turns the idea down by mentioning how she and her Slayers are "having a hard enough time with Dracula in Peru".

With no other choice, Giles comes to the conclusion that they need Illyria, as well as that Hellmouth closed as soon as possible. A girl no older than 4 comes up to Ethan, asking "Daddy, why is the sky falling?" Giles is shocked to see that Ethan has a daughter, to which he counters "People change Ripper, more especially people in lockup with more psychological therapy than you can imagine; I met a good woman in Wales, she left me and this little bundle 10 months later, priorities gradually shifted". Robson mentions how hurt he is and says he can watch the girl at the pub while Ethan and Giles go try finding Illyria, to which Ethan initially tries refusing, but all he has to hear from "Ripper" to change his mind; "Think of your daughter"

Arriving at a pond where a large blue trail has led them to from the warehouse, Ethan and Giles find Illyria unconscious, her broken body on a shattered bench. Giles mentions that maybe they should give her CPR, to which Ethan replies how he wouldn't dare kiss an Old One, that this one was all "Ripper's". As Giles kneels himself down, the instant his lips touch Illyria's, her eyes spring open and she pushes him into midair and off her. In surprised amazement, Ethan is delighted to see this woman so powerful, not to mention attracted to her. As Giles gets on his feet, Illyria reveals to them she knows why they've come for her, and that if either of them "violate" her again, they'd "meet a fate worse than human embalming".

Hearing Eyghon's voice from the sky suddenly, they're commanded to come to an abandoned boxing arena, where he wants only "Rupert" to enter. Giles counters that it won't work like that and he'll meet him, alone as he wishes, but back at the crumbling warehouse atop the Cardiff Hellmouth. Eyghon agrees, though on the term that they be there in only 10 minutes and no longer, or else all of England will suffer an assault far worse than "this humorous prank". On their way, Giles stops the car halfway and Ethan asks what's wrong, when he notices him looking at a pack of vampires getting flaming appliances ready to throw into a house. He gets out of the car and orders Ethan and Illyria to go on without him, Ethan asking if he's crazy, just as Illyria telekinetically drives the car from the back seat.

The vamps put down their ball bats and various items, ready to have a quick meal. Walking up to the three of them seemingly unarmed, Giles sarcastically remarks how training a Slayer seems to have given him more skills than it did her. As the vamps approach, he quickly squats down and snatches two stakes braced in his separate socks, managing to efficiently get rid of two of the vamps and give the third a very menacing look, remarking "Oh believe me, I make a Slayer look like a bloody cub scout". The vamp runs off scared, leaving Giles to breathe a sigh of relief. Satisfied that his sneak-attack and bluffing worked, he runs off to the warehouse, hoping that he can make it before Illyria's driving leads herself and Ethan to something worse than a car crash.

Arriving at the warehouse without Giles, Illyria enters with a cowering Ethan behind her. Trying not to be noticed, Illyria grabs Ethan by his shirt collar and he breaks into a sweat, yammering "Did I mention I have a medical condition where my brain produces a chemical that causes extreme fair, so maybe I should wait outside..." and as Illyria talks in reply, Eyghon's voice booms the interior of the slowly falling building, revealing himself by flying down inside from the roof. "I asked for Rupert, not a defective Old One or sniveling weasel I've no interest in", says Eyghon, whom angers Illyria immensely as she is ready to fight. They both go at each other and begin, leaving Ethan falling to his rear by their ground shaking collisions.

Elsewhere, at the pub where Robson watches over little Chance Rayne, he tries comforting her by telling her positive stories of how powerful her father could be. He hears a ring from his cell and it's his wife, whom asks how he's doing. Suddenly, new objects falling from the sky catch his eyes from the pub window, to which he can only shockingly tell her to "...Turn on the news..." As she does, she holds the phone to her heart in shock as elsewhere in Cardiff, Giles slows his running and looks up in the sky; it's raining fiery hail balls. He now runs as fast as he possibly can, though meanwhile in the warehouse, Eyghon takes Illyria's best shots and thanks to energies from the Hellmouth, comes out on top after each one. Severely getting the best of her, he lays her out at his feet, a battered mess as he prepares his final blow.

Struggling to stomach the violence inflicted on Illyria, Ethan stands to his feet and shivers more intensely and differently, drawing on "the power of chaos" in an attempt to materialize an energy ball from his hand. Noticing what he views as a futile effort, Eyghon anyway throws a spark of fire toward the reformed single father, knocking him against a stable wall and out very quickly. He then brags how because of "Rupert", he'll spread this evil beyond England and eventually to the rest of the world, now starting to harness the Hellmouth energies all the more. However, a sound from the building entrance catches him off guard, as an energy ball comes hurdling his way and knocks him down, though he lifts his head up to see the unexpected attacker; "Before you do that, how about letting ol' Ripper try his hand", says the calm-yet-pissed Giles.

As Eyghon gets to his feet, he casually greets "Rupert" and asks where he got such power, with Giles simply explaining that "it's kind of an emergency loan from a red head witch I know dearly". Eyghon is hardly impressed, very gradually and carefully walking toward Giles with a grin of lustful happiness. Wishing simply vengeance on Giles rather than revenge, he makes a proposal; his soul goes with him into the Hellmouth, a hundred years would pass in that time period, but only one day for the comatose body of Giles and the rest of the world. "Do me this wish, you'll be returned once I've used you to my full desires, and I'll never terrorize your world again", the evil demon says, though Giles won't hear of it. He powers energy balls in both hands and throws his attacks toward Eyghon, whom blocks them successfully, though not without getting knocked back some.

Knowing he can only distract Eyghon, Giles orders the coming-to Illyria to try to destroy the Hellmouth with whatever power she can utilize. Drawing on its energies, the former Old One fully recovers and focuses all her power on the portal's opening, shooting grand amounts of lightning-energy upon it and managing to close it, though remarking how she can't completely destroy it without risking "this pathetic city". Giles replies that getting it closed is all that matters and as she succeeds, he stops hurling energy at the arms-laced Eyghon, whom suddenly falls to both knees severely weak without the Hellmouth's energies. Giles energizes one last attack in his right hand, slowly building it up to as big an energy ball as any he's thrown before. As he remarks "If you wanted to play pitcher-catcher, then by all means, catch this!", to which Eyghon can barely utter out "Oh sh..." and he's blown away.

With Eyghon gone, the sky begins clearing and Giles suddenly falls to his knees as the massive amount of loaned energy leaves his body. Exhausted, he looks up after some breathing to see Illyria standing over him. He jokes "If you also want to conquer or destroy the world, there are a couple other more challenges out there beyond this old man", to which Illyria cocks her neck and looks over to see Ethan coming to. Ethan remarks to "Ripper" that he really should start his own business to handle this kind of thing, which he lets out a small laugh at in reply, though does show a small expression in thinking about it. Illyria mentions that she'll be leaving England immediately, knowing there's nothing Giles can do to help her with her grief, though now knowing that there is another out there that can. "Willow?" Giles says, though Illyria only looks up through the demolished ceiling and flies up, telling Giles quickly as she leaves; "There's more to skills than power and what you have in your heart, Rupert Giles; even I cannot surpass that".

Arriving back at the pub exhausted, Giles and Ethan basically hang on to one another to walk steadily, as Chance runs to her father and hugs him. Robson asks his old friend how it went, getting a "One swell of a time" in reply. Going to the next day, Giles has just hung up the phone after talking to an offscreen Buffy, proceeding to drink his evening tea. Robson knocks on the door and Giles lets him in, he asks why he was invited over and Giles reveals that he's been thinking about what Illyria and Ethan have said regarding his life and what he could be doing. "Maybe even old retired horses like us have a couple more kicks left in us", leaving Robson to smile and reply that he's been thinking the exact same thing. They simply shake hands and as they do so, Robson mentions how he's heard of a haunted boarding school south in London they could check out. Giles replies "What're we waiting for" and grabs his coat, they each grab some old Watchers equipment he has locked in a case and head out the door.
