I'm of the belief that you can't have too much of a good thing (trivia threads). Tribond seems to have caught on quite well so why don't we try this one? It's VERY similar to "Who am I?" except that in this game, all of the answers are non-living things (inanimate objects). Everything else will follow the same format (three clues to start, person who correctly guesses goes next, etc.). Just so we can keep this from getting TOO crazy (yes, XRay, I mean YOU - lol) let's keep it to tangible things only. In other words, don't use something like "Clark's feelings for Lana". They can be obscure (of course), but be prepared to steer people in the right direction. For example, if you're going to say "Jonathan's toothbrush", just know that it could go on for a looong time unless you provide really good clues. OK, I think I've covered the basics. Let's start.

-It appeared in two seasons
-It held ill-gotten gains
-Its owner kept a close eye on it

What is it?

Was it the little chest that Lex kept the octagonal key in?

I'll take the baton from MrsK. But it's gonna get quiet soon.

Try this:

It held something valuable
Normally the item would hold something else
I was handled by an uncredited guest.

Hmm, not a bad guess and it probably fits (did any of the cops handle it before Lois snatched it?), but not what I'm after.

Just checked Noir, and only Lois and Lionel handled the cigarette case.

My item is seen being handled by an uncredited guest.

MrsK

At his girlfriend's house. And it is only midnight here - his curfew for Saturday night. I will be so glad when he can drive - and yet, that thought also terrifies me!

Recapping:

I was handled by an uncredited guest (but was also held by more than one other person, including 2 main characters and a recurring guest)

The clues refer to an identical (or nearly identical) item in the possession of 3 different people. I've made them a little more specific:

A guest character used it to help her make a decision in S4
A different one was defaced by another guest character in S3
It contained a clue that helped Clark save several people in S4

The chisel?

-At first Lana stole it from the barn in "Crimson" and Lex basically stole it back in "Trespass"
-It was used as a weapon when Lex tried to stab Clark, but it backfired.
-It provided a clue to Lana about Clark's powers which later led her to go snooping at the farm in the next episode (Trespass)

Dr. Walden

Nope. The guest character is not Alicia or Genevieve. The question is being demanded of another recurring character. The item is directly referenced, so its not, like xray suggested, something that is just assumed, like the assumption that Jason mailed the stone in a box.

No, we eliminated that. Jonathan followed Kent tradition by giving a compass as a wedding gift but it was a new one that he gave Lex.

xrayvision
08-03-2008, 10:18 PM
Something tells me it's something from Relic that was Hiram's and Jonathan gave it to Clark. It's either between Clark and Lex or Clark & Jonathan. I don't think it was that Battle of Troy playset seen in the pilot. It definitely wasn't the box made of St. George's armor and was not the sword Lex gave to Clark in Stray.

I don't remember anything being given to another main character that was from Martha's father, Lois' father, Lana's father, Pete's father, Jason's father, or Whitney's father.

skully
08-03-2008, 10:20 PM
Maybe Clark's telescope? Near the end of Pilot Jonathan says "Your grandfather gave me that telescope when I was about your age." So not sure it matches the 60 year old clue but it was Hiram's and it was gifted to Jonathan and presumably then passed onto Clark.

AdamTyree

Without looking at any other clues that may have been posted, my answer to MrsK's question (hopefully nobody got it yet) is Lionel's pendant in Prodigal.

It appeared in one episode.
It contained the hair & a photo of Lucas, both of which were related Lionel's secret.
No one saw either item because Lionel was blind

Wow!

Hmm. No ideas at this point, and I'm too tired to think very hard, so I'm off to bed. I imagine skully, krews, or KF1 will figure it out by morning.

thanks Mrs. K, lol ;)

So it's not alive

Skully, FYI - Answers on this thread cannot be alive. Non living only.

Really? I thought animals could be used as a "What am I?". Not that the current question refers to an animal.

I almost considered using something living. It was going to be the parasite from Rush, which pops up again in Lex's secret room, so I thought I could make some clever clues. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure if that would break the rules.

Meh, the "rules" of these threads inevitably morph a bit. I don't think anyone is gonna take you to task about whether your "thing" should be in the "What it is?" thread or the "Who am I?" thread.

Is the owner who died a character with a name?
Do we see them die, or just know that they are dead?

Yes the owner who died is a character who does have a name. Technically, we don't see the person, but do know and even see evidence that the person is dead.

In my mind, animals (like Whitney's horse Tyson) belong on the Who am I? thread.

The only potentially "sticky" situation you run into in using living things on the "What is it?" thread is that you may have questions go on forever because people don't realize they're allowed to guess living things. I think it probably makes more sense to just keep them separate. But, no, I'm not gonna "take you to task" lol

This thing made quite a bit of noise.
Its owner died.
It had the same name as something else that appeared a few seasons later.
What is it?

Just moving the question down a bit (for my own benefit)

----- Added 5 Minutes later -----

Could it be something belonging to the shop teacher in Dichotic? (the guy Ian killed)? I would assume there's a lot of noise in a metal shop...

Hmm, looks like I'll have to work through each episode, cos this one's just not coming to me.

How about the barn, all sorts of noises come out of it.
It still belongs to the Kent's but the original owner has died
Jonathan called it Clark's "Fortress of Solitude"

Yeah but this "it" and the same-named thing each only appeared in one episode. So can't be the barn.

A nice line of reasoning nevertheless...

It's not necessarily something loud. It could be something that frequently made noise [hint, hint].

Early.

Another hint that I gave earlier:

The same named "thing" could be an actual thing or it could be a place or a person.

How about Lionel's word scanner in Duplicity? The one that voiced the words as Lionel scanned the page ("These fragment vary in circumference from 24 microns to 562 millimeters."). But I think he used that in more than one episode (also in Nocturne in the garden when Martha showed up and read the paper for him, I think).

Not the word scanner. By the way, do those things really exist?

Yes, I believe they're made to read Braille. The words are "coded" on the page.
