No, the Talon was in more than one Episode.

Is it a place?

Is it a clock or watch?

Another clue:

It was seen moments before a main character discovered something big as far as the episode goes.

This thing made quite a bit of noise.
Its owner died.
It had the same name as something else that appeared a few seasons later.
What is it?

Is this a common, everyday item or something like an artifact? Is it Kryptonian?

SparkleforSmallville
08-10-2008, 06:10 PM
I know, i can't get Clock out of my mind:/ It's the noise thing. Maybe we
should figure out which Character died, that isn't seen, and that owned the
thing. or at least which Episode.

Is it seen in Hourglass? People had died in that Episode.

xrayvision
08-10-2008, 06:17 PM
Not seen in Hourglass (so don't guess the TV that the guy who gets killed with the piano wire watched the football game on before he died). It is not an artifact but a more common type of object. Even though it's a common type of item, I think this is the only one of its kind that we see in the series.

And as far as the noise goes, it's not loud but frequent. And noise can mean a variety of sounds.

Time for a review of the clues:

This thing made quite a bit of noise (not necessarily loud but frequent – repeating with breaks) and is from season 1 or 2 but not seen at SV High
It’s a common item but only appears in the series once
Its owner died (and has a name but we technically didn’t see die)
It was seen moments before a main character discovered something big as far as the episode goes
It had the same name as something else that appeared a few seasons later.
It’s not alive but may be a proper name or even brand name
It's not a place but the same named thing could be
It’s not a siren or a knife/dagger/starblade
It’s not the black ship or the barn
It’s not Lionel’s word scanner
It’s not a clock or a watch, or record player or radio
It’s not a pager or remote, or cell phone or pinball machine.

Darn, this should stand out like a sore thumb.

That's why I said the owner technically was not in the episode, because the actual owner was the original Emily, who lived in Smallville and died, not the clone Emily who lived in Granville. The stuff in her room was left alone with the exception of having a secret doorway installed for Pete Dinsmore's lab.

I think the same named thing was Abigail Fine. (Scabby Abby/Gabby Abby)

Yeah, that's why I said the name was a partial. I never realized that the nickname portion of the 2 names rhyme until now. I just thought of her as Abby when I came up with the question.

Bumping to a new page.

Appears in back-to-back seasons owned by the same character, with the breaking away main characters physically held in some way. Another character has a similar item in another season. The item is quite unique.

It is not a Porsche, red-K ring, Jonathan's bike or a key of any sort.

So is the first main character breaking away from a minor character? And can we assume that the owner of the item is not involved in the breaking away scenes?

skully

Main typically means they appear in the opening credits, Sparkle. So the owner of the item and those characters who break away are either Clark, Lana, Lex, Chloe, Pete, Martha, Jonathan, Lionel, Whitney, Lois, Jason or Kara.

One would assume that given the item is seen in back-to-back seasons, we can rule out Jason and Kara as the owner.

I never liked how that ray deflected off Clark's body and hit Bethany. His body should have absorbed it without hurting him. But I guess if that didn't kill him, Lex certainly would have.

If successfully used it could be lethal, but generally it inflicts pain. It's not a taser, it's not Kryptonian and it is human-made.

Given that the lateral thinking MrsK is outta town and the equally devious xray has been kidnapped by the reincarnated Dr Bethany, another clue perhaps (no offence intended to all the other trivia fans).

The first instance we see the weapon is in a middle season episode, and the 2nd instance is in a late season episode.

This item is a weapon (handheld, but not a gun, knife or taser) used to inflict pain
Two separate versions of it are used unsuccessfully by a main character and a one-episode guest
In one instance the weapon was attempted to be used against a meteor-infected person in a middle season epi and the other against a non-meteor infected person in a late season epi.

What is it?

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Not the pencil Mark, but I like the lateral thinking. These similar weapons (identical except for size - one was slightly bigger than the other) did not kill the people they were used against.

Nail gun Lana used on one of the twins in Mortal

skully
08-29-2008, 02:39 PM
Not the nail gun but you have one of the seasons this "weapon" was used in. On each occasion the weapon was used it did not prove to be as successful as hoped by the user. The similar weapons were used in back-to-back seasons.

So nwc's nail gun answer also applies to the nail gun that Linda Lake used in Hydro?

Thinking of "weapons" used in Season 6. Watched a few episodes recently.

Was Lana the main character who used this "weapon"?

If you can't answer that b/c it'll give it away, then did the main character that used the weapon use it to try to escape from someone who was chasing them? (kind of like when Lana hits people with glass or something?)

skully
08-29-2008, 02:50 PM
Lana did not use the weapon in either instance but she was involved in one of the two instances.

And yes, the main character who used the weapon did use it to try to "escape".

Perhaps that may give it away but this one has been going a while.

There is a clue that I can give that may give it away. See how we go.

I was thinking of the stun gun used against Lex in Asylum, but I don't think that's it.

What about the telescopic nightstick that Lex grabbed from the Belle Reve orderly in Asylum and used against the other orderly?

Hehehe, the prodigal son returns. Some killer papers to finish, man?

Not a stun gun or the night stick.

Still nobody? The main star that used the "weapon" was a female (not Lana) and the one-episode guest was male.

Need to think a little laterally. This is not a weapon in the conventional sense - it is not used for stabbing, shooting or inflicting pain on contact (although it would hurt if contacted).

I'm trying to think of "weapons" that were used to try to inflict pain on someone, but the user wasn't effective in doing that...

And just to check again: Are the two seasons that the item is seen in from Seasons 5 and 6?

Maybe it's the knife that Lois stole from the guard in Phantom? Perhaps it's supposed to be a butcher knife, but he decided to use it to attack Lois. Lois Lane tried to use it on the guard in their little fight, but she failed and ended up getting stabbed herself IIRC.

The weapon was ineffective on both occasions (although in the second instance the item may have had some effect but did not achieve what the user was trying to do) it was used (once v meteor-infected person and once v non-meteor infected person) but in "normal" circumstances would inflict great pain. It's not a knife.

Was it the crystal Jor-El gave to Raya? Not the House of El crystal.

Think "defence".

Not the mace, xray, which was used in S4. Looking for similar items used in S5 and S6.

This item is a weapon (handheld, but not a gun of any sort, knife, taser, pencil, stun gun, nightstick, crystal or mace) used for defence and to inflict pain

Not a fencing sword. Man, I'm amazed this has lasted so long. I can't think of anymore clues without completely giving it away.

Maybe this one. The 2nd person this item was used on (in S6) was affected by something by was not meteor-infected.

Time for you guys to ask the questions.

Is it a cross?

skully
08-31-2008, 04:36 PM
Why yes it is, nwc!!!

Chloe tried to defend herself with a crucifix from vampire Lana in Thirst, who just laughed and said "Oh sweetie...this isn't a movie", and the priest used a larger version to try to expel the demon (the wraith) from the old man at the beginning of Phantom.

Well done, you're up.

Kara's blue crystal?

It was a gift from Zor-El
It was destroyed at the FoS in Blue

Only appeared in one episode.
Was used to "protect" a main character.

The Crystal of Knowledge?

-Created when Clark put the three Stones of Power together
-Only truly appeared in Commencement
-In a way, it was used to protect Clark because it built the Fortress which could save Clark (if needed)

-Appeared only in Wrath until it broke
-Was used to protect Clark from Lana's fit of maniacal rage in LuthorCorp labs
