It's back up! *sqeeee!!*
It's pretty much what I was expecting. Cheesy, kinda dumb in spots, but at the same time charming and funny.
Best line: "It's curtains for you, Dr. Horrible! Lacy, gently wafting curtains!"

The second act was even better. I love how sweet and powerful some of the music is, especially in the opening song of Act II.

All the songs remind me of "Once More With Feeling." Joss is pretty good at writing songs... comedy and emotion all in one. :)

I'm watching it right now! I have always been a huge Neil Patrick Harris fan, as well as Joss Whedon. This is WAY better than I thought it would be, and I had high hopes. It's just so ridiculous and funny. Joss needs to constantly make musicals!

I loved the first song of Act III.
Oh, and Act II, funny line, "My penis is the hammer."
And did everyone catch the cameo by Marti Nixon as a news caster?

Act III was awesome, even though the end was ruined for me b/c I looked at this thread as I was watching it.

Guh. Wasn't this supposed to be a light, fluffy comedy? I guess Joss just couldn't let it be.
I'm simultaneously satisfied and disappointed in the finale.
On one hand, I get why he didn't want to have a happy ending. But it was very derivative of stuff like "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Sweeney Todd." But I guess that can be called an "homage."
I'm just mad that I somehow got so emotionally invested in these characters.
I demand a sequel now.

07-19-2008, 10:32 PM
Yes, a sequel would be grand. I love N.P.H. so much! Especially when he sings in a lab coat!

That would be amazing for Joss. Sadly, he just keeps going back to the same bag of tricks. Death and tragedy is too predictable for him now. I had hoped this would be his attempt at something more lighthearted, but I was disappointed. Happy endings DO happen sometimes in real life, Joss; having every one of your characters end up miserable and with dead loved ones is no more realistic than having them ride off in the sunset.
I still loved it, but I think the ending was a bit too cliched and we should have been warned that it would be so dark, since it was marketed as a light comedy.

I don't think Joss always has EVERYBODY die...and besides, I like that everything he does has that darkness. There is light and darkness together, like he is trying to show the balance between the two.

yes, he kind of does have at least one of two die, leave or untouchable. i can't think of one example where that hasn't happened, so enlighten me. balance? i'd like to see a normal balanced relationship that has no casualties...but that's joss and i adore his work

well it's cliché for him, but if he did let there be a happy ending that would have been cliché also...so nobody wins

People die all the time. Having a story of people involved in just daily life without casualties would truly be a work of fiction. There is no way that Buffy would have worked if everyone had remained unscathed at the end of the day.
And by balance, I meant the fact that there was so much actual brightness in Dr. Horrible, and that Penny was so sweet, and yet there was so much darkness in the end.
I didn't expect Joss to produce something that resulted in a simple happy ending, especially after everything I have seen from him.

 I wasn't aware "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" was a documentary.

I liked that Buffy dealt with death, but that was always a darker show than this, even in Season 1.

I just don't see why a happy ending is some kind of sin these days. They DO happen in real life, sometimes.

i just meant that i stead of joss always killing off the love interest he could try and let them be happy once in a while; something that lasts.
and i didn't realize you were being so straight-forward, but yeah i guess it was bright out. big surprise with the sun; it being california and all. but i would still like to see a balance of reality too - it's not all dreadful, love can actually last.
no i wouldn't expect anyone to have thought it would be an happy ending, but it would have been nice.

This web series is just soo amazing ... You can watch the 3 webisodes at the official site or on Hulu. I just watched it today and WOW, instant fan. I'm already also a fan of NPH, after seeing him on HIMYM and Harold and Kumar.
I love how it makes fun of the superhero stereotypes. I found it's also pretty ironic how that Dr. Horrible is portrayed as the protagonist, while Captain Hammer is portrayed as the antagonist. It gives a new take on the ever-so familiar concept of superhero shows/movies.
Overall, this series is awesome! Great story (although the ending was a bit strange), and ridiculously catchy songs. According to Joss Whedon at Comic Con, there will be another part. Soundtrack and DVD is also coming too.
