View Full Version : Was I the only one who laughed?

I seriously laughed when Clark started crying while watching Lana's video. I don't know, he just looked stupid.

His face kind of looked like how my 2 year old niece looks when she just had something taken away from her....but you expect that from a 2 year old, not from a 21 year old 6'3" alien.

I don't know, I just can't handle when male actors cry. It almost always looks fake and stupid. The only time I have ever been able to handle it is when Clark cried with his mom at the end of "Vengeance." That scene seemed sooooo genuine and you could really feel he emotion. Tom rocked that scene, and I even cried during that scene (actually, every time I see that scene). This time, it was a full crash and burn. Just an awful awful scene.

I laughed too, but Lana's face had as much to do with it as Clark's, something about the way those bits were shot made them both look ridiculously goofy.

I think it's interesting that I felt absolutely nothing. I felt no empathy for Clark nor Lana, just disinterest. It felt so contrived and mechanical. And I'm one of those like you who really felt it in "Vengence." I almost cried with Clark then when Clark embraced his mother probably because I was still missing Jonothan Kent myself and mourned the way he died. I did cry at the end of "Memoria." But I remained completely unmoved and remote for the Clana video parting. Just .... nada.

I guess that makes EDLois Clark's new "mother" if you count the Martha Kent hug from "Vengence" paralleled with the EDLois hug in "Artic." And I'm still not impressed.

He did look like a kid who just had their toy taken away! :)

I think maybe that's what they were going for. at least for me, it got across the message that it was an immature relationship from the beginning. Hence his last time, hopefully, that we see him respond like a little kid... :\

I think because we're over it. ... Hell, we've been over it for a long time now! :(

All her vid did for me was piss me off! I expected her to say something more along the lines of what she said in the hospital that time she got injured by the horse. like that she thought she could deal but this last incident made her realize she can't, that she's got to have her own best interests at heart and staying in a relationship with him, that will always put her in danger is something she just can't handle. I hated that she added "more than you'll ever know" to her "I love you" grrrrrrr. what total BS!!!

You're right. It did kind of piss me off in a vague sort of way, that she led Clark on like that with her "I love you more than...blah, blah, blah! Just so he'll remember her with longing instead of despise her as he should despise a deserter. After all, you don't just cut out on someone you love! With a "Dear John" letter/video! Her words will just make it even harder for Clark to get over it ... again. I guess I was just relieved Lana might not have to return for S8 after all. It kind of cancelled out the pissed off, it made me so relieved, hopeful and happy.

Its like being dumped by email or text message. A person will feel like they arent wanted anymore and will feel sorry for themselves. Thats how I looked at this video. I thought it really was heartless of her to do.

I was more disgusted than anything else and found myself making fun of Clark. I was like, "Dude, this weeping willow better not ever become Superman!" More like Girly Man.

Probably because I was beyond sick of Clana!

The analogy of a 2 year old with his toy just taken away hits it well. That's probably the best description of the BDA's ability to deal with a real relationship. He can call Chloe his best friend, but other than super hormones on overdrive, how much of friends are Clark and Lana anyway? He always sees her on some weird pedestal, and she can do no wrong. Does he even really know her (based on what we get to see "behind the scenes").

Laugh at it? No, but it gave me a sense of relief in that I am hoping we are truly going to be rid of her influence. "The world needs you" - we need Superman....we will never have him as long as she is around; the one smart thing Lana has finally said is that very statement.

Yeah because you wouldn't cry if your girlfriend up and left and dumped you through a video tape.

I laughed because it was a horrible way to break up with someone. I mean, to me, it was worse than a phone call break up - because he had to look at her again but he couldn't say anything because she wasn't there. CK looked really pouty but I mean, Lana was his comfort zone and now she's gone - so now CK has to grow up.

I think I was embarassed because he was crying over a break-up with a girlfriend, as opposed to crying over the death of his father.

For Clark, I think it was the build-up of guilt over feeling responsible for Lana's condition, pain over knowing she was suffering so much, elation that she was better, and then the heartbreak of being dumped via a video.

Lana really knows how to mess with him. Instead of saying something similar to what Lois said to Ollie, something like, "this is just too hard for me. I don't want to share you..." or else something like, "I will always be targeted by your enemies and it is too painful for both of us. Best for us to go our separate ways," she goes with the vague and noble, "I need you but the world needs you more...I love you more than you will ever know."

IMO, there is no closure to a statement like that. It just leaves Clark devastated and wanting her even more. I wish Lana would just vaporize in front of Clark leaving no trace of her existence for him to have a relationship with.:(

Clark crying is difficult to watch. But, have you considered that Clark really does have a lot to cry about? The break-up video was less rewarding than a sheer straight on face to face honest exchange between the two star struck lovers, but hopefully at least the break up is done and it will stick this time. Regardless of the quality of the breakup video, it was still a break up video. Breakups are hard to deal with especially with a person you thought you would spend you whole life with. But think about all the other pressure that has been building on Clark's strong shoulders. He has next to no one there to support him who he can be completely honest with now. Chloe is the only one, and he nearly got her killed. Lex is looking down the barrel of that control device thingie and is currently taking aim. Lois is trying to pull him into her world and doesn't want to go there...yet. Mama Kent has deserted him. Not even a phone call or a letter. His cousin is lost. Lionel is dead and Clark knows who killed him but can do little about seeing to it that Lex receives his just due. The chores, the saves, the starting over. The isolation and we all know that being alone has always been a great fear of Clark's. Think back over the past 7 years. Clark has endured a great deal of personal, physical, and emotional trauma. Remember that things can build up so that a mere straw can break the camel's back. And the breakup was no straw. I, for one, will cut Clarkie boy some slack. He's gonna need for the next round of villains to best.

I thought Clark feeling sad over Lana was acted in a believable manner.

I thought it was believable and shed a tear myself. He was by himself at first and who hasn't cried when they were alone with no one to watch. He looked like he was trying to cut back the tears as a man would who doesn't usually cry. Finally, the realization of the love of his life doesn't want him anymore is too much and a friend gives him a shoulder to cry on...If you could laugh at this scene then you haven't experienced a deep loss and couldn't sympathize with Clark. Maybe I get into Smallville too much but sometimes it feels real and that's how Clark's crying came across to me. I have lost deeply this past year. Two sons, my father and my uncle have all died and so I know what real loss of loved ones are all about. Believe me when I say that if Clark Kent were real he will cry again because of his broken heart.

My condolences, Snowbird. Please feel free to use my cyber shoulder to cry on if you need to. And I agree that Clark's crying just shows what an emotional feeling creature he is. Superman always "felt" when things were going badly, when someone got hurt, and when comic book Lois died in his arms. I am not put off by this scene. Not at all.

I agree with you I didn't laugh :\maybe the acting wasn't so great but it was believable...I know how it is to lose the ones you love. It wasn't as great as in Venegence and the whole video tape thing was cheesy. But I could see how much he loved Lana and that he wanted her in his life. Lana's reasoning was the only thing that striked me as making Clark the bad guy, that just added on to the guilt off all the things in his life. Lana just messes with every guy she's with, she basically demasculinates every guy.:( Poor BDA.

And SnowBird my condolences to you also. I'm sorry for your loss. I know how it is to lose loved ones. And thank you for putting things into perspective.

I'm not a Lana hater but have you noticed how her relationships end in a vicious cycle. KK is great and in the beginning of SV lots of fans had respect for Lana, but after all the Lana drama people are sick of it they either are desensitized or just despise her. Plus her time is up with SV she had no use in the series anymore, there needs to be progression not stagnation.

the scene was pathetic and weak. I can understand the emotion, but through a video message...made it more comical.

I got more of an emotional reaction out of Lois' running over to hug Clark than Lana's message. That's probably because I'm a Lois fan though :)

I found the scene to be believable. I think what made it seem real was that the breakup had a sense of finality to it. Clark seemed to understand that she was right - that she had to leave for her own safety and to allow him to fulfill his destiny. He was heartbroken because he really knew it was over.

It's not that I hate lana. I am actually a closet Clana-er. It was just his face. I understand if he was broken hearted, but the crying just came off as stupid to me. I love tom welling, but he does not cry well. The only time he ever has was "vengeance" and it was good. but most other times he has just not done well with the crying.

It's Tobey Maguire. and yes, that scene was just as horrible. I hated spider-man 3.

actually, the 2 crying scene are very similar. Both are trying to hard to cry and make it look heartbreaking, but it just came across as stupid and embarrassing.

Clark may have been crying over Lana breaking up with him, but the minute he turned around and saw Lois standing there he was blinking back the tears, probably because he was thinking "My future looks brighter already!"

Nope. I think it was slightly better because in TW's case, he didn't have to talk through the horribly fake crying. And I know, I agree that both came across embarrassing to watch which is why I compared the two to each other.

i laughed...alot actually...and then laughed harder when lois came in and started hugging him because it shows how desperate the writers are to show the audience that lois and clark have a relationship so next year they can say that they built up the relationship between them...*shakes head* that scene was the stupidest scene of the episode....but not becuase its lana...just cause it was poorly done

 these things really do depend on your mood i guess... i actually found it good enough to make me cry, and that's rare with smallville

he's not the best male crier i've seen... i found jason behr on roswell high was brilliant when he was crying to his sister about getting tess pregnant... he is just a natural cryer
