I mean really, shouldn't Jorel have been privy to the possilbility that the device could have fallen into evil hands and used to destroy his good son? It's like he took it for granted that it would only be used if his son turned out to be bad. Not the other way around that someone evil would be using it.

Maybe the last scene was one big safety mechanism.

I want to believe that's what did happen; the fortress Jor-el stopped the complete activation of the device

Yea, I think the Fortress may have destroyed itself in order for someone not to manipulate it... any further that is...

Only humans can use the device, so it's reasonable to think that some human other than Lex could destroy it. Clark's human friends are currently unavailable, but that could change.

Once again, Jor-el couldn't even put in a firewall feature into his A.I.? Come on Jor, they give them away for free sometimes.
Hell, a password feature would be nice before someone can upload something.
What did Lex upload into the FOS? Vista?

That's only what Brainiac said.

Here is my take on this. The device was meant to control Clark in case he became evil. Now there was no need for the fortress to fall apart like that. Remember Jor-El froze Clark and released him when Bizzaro returned. He could have simply done that again to put him in permanently frozen state. I think the fortress falling apart was some sort of safeguard just in case an evil person like Lex managed to get their hands on it. Kryptonians with such advanced technology gotta be smart to safeguard it too.
Atleast I hope the writers are smarter to come up with a story line unlike the most recent superman movie where Lex walks in and says "tell me everything" and manages to find out everything about the crystals. That was just ridiculous writing.
