Duh! Lois, of course! I thought it, too, was a nice transitional sequence with Lana saying goodbye and Lois walking in. The video was very reminiscent of when Lana broke up with Whitney in Season 2 by video. But, most definitley, this song was about moving on from Lana to Lois. By the way, does anyone know who sang that song, because with the acting, it made my heart break! :(

Lana had lots of flaws, but she had the intelligence and quality of character to realize that ClarkMan is meant for something bigger than their relationship.
lois is grossly flawed and even admitted her personal envy of the greater destiny of Oliver/Green Arrow Bandit after he dumped her. She has neither the intelligence or quality of character to realize that she and whatever desires she has is the center of her universe and she is unsuited for anybody other than herself.
Great legs though.

Didn't they establish in the episode that Lana and Clark aren't made for each other (unless you created the poll for that reason)? So honestly, I'd expect Lois to be winning. I think some Clana fans realize that Clark and Lana aren't meant to be too. They just want a proper send-off.

Unfare poll. Where is Chloe?
I don't want to enter in a polemic or a ship war but this poll obviously refers to a scene where only exist two choices because only two women were included in it, those being Lois and Lana. Had Chloe been in that scene as well, it would be fair and necessary for her to enter this poll, but since Chloe was not included in said scene, her name as an option makes no sense.
It is obvious that in many people's heart Chloe is the answer, but she doesn't apply for the current poll.

Lois = great for clark. I mean, she just tells him as it is, no BS. yet she's quite lovely. her character is, much better suited for CK.

I thought it was a nice "transition" scene...Lana saying goodbye RIGHT at the same time Lois is in the doorway.
I don't know about being a nice transition, I still think this is premature! Both Clark working at the Planet and getting involved with Lois, but is very symbolic to say the least! That scene along with the one where Lois showed Clark the Daily Planet internship papers clearly showed where Clark's future lays! Not with Lana or Chloe, as much as I might hate to admit it, but Lois:\

As much as it makes me throw up in my mouth, the song was obviously in reference to Lana. It is now on that long list of not so subtle songs TPTB have used to try to brainwash us into Lana Fans.
Lana is...
Beautiful, she's beautiful, she's beautiful.
She will be loved.
Everything she does is good, everything she does is right.
She's all Clark wants. She's all Clark needs. She's everything. Everything.
And now she's perfect too.

I actually think it was meant to shift gears, the first half of the song during the breakup was deffinatly about Lana but after Lois comes in and the second verse starts its about her. Besides that "Your Perfect" line was just a little to convienently placed to be completly random.

of COURSE its Lois..jeeze, for a number of reasons..ahem
1. you dont even really hear the lyrics until it focuses on Lois
2. The Lyrics come mainly when the camera is on her as Clark is looking at her (i think they're: ) "I wonder if you'll notice, you'll change my life. I wonder if you'll notice that you'll change my life"..then as they hug its "you're perfect"..you'll change my life means you will, not you have.
3. Who else is Clark's perfect Love? Its Not lana its Lois Lane everyone knows that.
4. Clana is not perfect thats why it didnt work
5. Lana breaks up with clark and Lois quite literally enters when this happens..big anvil along with the music.
it was more forshadowing rather than stating a present situation
basically means, she will be the love of his life not Lana,Lois is perfect for him.
the scene quite obviously shifts when Lois Walks in and the song goes with that change.

"I wonder if you'll notice, that you'll change my life" those are the lyrics that haunt you in this scene over and over again..you'll means you will, not you are and not you have...you will is future tense..

Canonwise speaking Lana was just Superman's first love but ithey realized they were wrong for each other in that sort of relationship and became really good friends instead for the rest of their lives. I would have much preffered that the 2 got together and talked it over and reallize it all instead of that awfully stupid and insipid video message which was deliberately done by the PTB to please the canon character haters!

This topic, I believe, has to do with the scene near the end where Clark watched Lana's goodbye DVD, and Lois came in and comforted him. "Perfect" was a word in the song that was playing while all this was going on. Chloe was not in this scene, thus she's not a choice.

Not Lois for sure !!!
The perfect girl for him might be Lana or Chloe.
The only reason why Lana's behaviours against Clark which most of you hate,
was because of Clark's COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS insistence about not telling his origin.
Definitely, Lana is not the one to take all the blame for her trust issues.
Most of the blame belongs to Clark, I should say.
Anyway, Lois is certainly NOT The one for him.
If Clana will not get together anymore, then MAKE CHLARK.
I would rather prefer seeing Clark with Chloe instead of Lois.
Anything would be better than Clois.

Well no one is pefect for Clark. I think that when Clark's in Smallville and young his main love should be Lana like the comics. But when he grows older and leaves for Metropolis it should be Lois. Since Clana has been over played I think Lois should be his next love interest, though not in season 8. Instead Clark can have hidden feeling for her like the comics but not reveal them until the finale. I think next season Clark should have no love interest.

I agree with you. Clark should have a crush on Lois. Not the kind of agnsty, stalkerish crush he had on Lana... just something lighthearted that turns into more by season's end. He really shouldn't have anybody in between that... he needs to first man up and grow up and maybe prevent a natural disaster or two (how many people are sick of the constant super villains? I mean they are good and fine and necessary... but shouldn't there be something more lighthearted Clark can do and show his hero side at least one in a blue moon?), anyway... that is why I'm not looking forward to Tess... it seems to me like another ploy to stall Clark's hero progression. But it could be good. I am trying to reserve judgement (I have come to realize that is usually the better way) until I see it.

Wow... that's a colorful post.
Anyway...
a) Lois Lane and Clark have sexual chemistry which is a very important ingredient for love.
b) Arguably, Lois is the one female on this show who really understands Clark the best. I think, at least. This is proven by her gift for his birthday. She realized he needed to open up his feelings and at the same time realized he needed space from the constant nagging from other people to open up. She sees the little nuances in him that a lot of people miss. Especially Lana and Chloe. Also, Clark himself said she sometimes knows him better than anyone. Both are always there for each other in major events in their lives. Clark was there for Lois when Ollie broke up with her, Lois was there for him in the Clana crisis.
c) Lois and Clark have fun around each other. They constantly play fight (she punches him, they give each other zingers but always with smilies on their faces). Fun, just like sexual chemistry are very important ingredients in a healthy relationship. He smiles the most when he is around Lois. He seems the most carefree when around her, which cannot be said for either Lana or Chloe.
d) Both have seen each other naked. This isn't a great point but I'm throwing it in just for fun. :p I know Lana has seen him naked as well as he has seen her... but they were in a relationship so it's a given. He has seen Chloe naked, but he was hyped up on RedK and she has never seen him naked. Lois saw Clark naked while fully sober, Clark saw Lois naked while fully sober. :D
e) Clark is a moper. We all know that. However when Lois is around he magically grows a backbone and tries to be on the same level with her. He uses his brain and tries to one up her. He puffs out his chest. He tries to show her he is a man. Example is in "Aqua" he automatically puffs out his chest when he sees Lois approaching with a smile. While hopped up on RedK he tries to 'impress' her and show her Ollie isn't even in his league. While hopped up on RedK he left Lana in a nightclub for a hotter girl. Curiously, the only person in Smallville he wants to show he is not just a simple farm boy is Lois. He tries to convince everybody else he is just that; a simple farm boy. Go figure.
f) They love kissing each other. Clark tells Martha, "I love Lana, want to kiss Lois, and keep Chloe in my back pocket?" Yes Clarkie boy, that's exactly it. Except you really don't love Lana anymore... as per what Bizzaro said about your true feelings. Remember he knows Clarks most hidden and darkest thoughts.
g) Enter "The Anvil Zone" (at your own risk Clana-ers and Chlarkers): Let's see, shall we? Hmmm... I'm not gonna list them all, just highlights and personal favorites, okay? The stars colliding in Lucy while romantic music plays and Lois and Clark just had an intimate moment. Even the lyrics mentioned flying and all sorts of anvilicious goodness. Lois dreams of a guy in a red cape, Clark tells Lois she'll find somebody even more special (after Lois just said how she'll ever find a guy who wants to save the world), twice after Clark ponders if he'll ever find his true love... Lois walks right into the scene. Lois tells Lana... she would be happy to end up with somebody as honorable as Clark some day... Ollie makes two references to a Clois scene in "Siren". Etc, etc.
h) There is also this little thing called "mythos" and 70 years of history. :D
i) Finally... as posters have pointed out on this thread... the lyrics to the song in this particular scene we are discussing... Lois walks in during a Clana breakup and the lyrics of the song speak of a perfect girl for the guy in the future tense. I mean... if that's not a big whopping huge devastating anvil even a coyote wouldn't recover from, than I don't know what is.

Nicely done, good on you. And as one should note, there is no such thing as 70 years of mythos on Smallville, in this series, most of those things have never happened and better yet, will never happen in the Smallville universe. Never will Tom Welling's ClarkMan ever be married ot EDlois on this series. (and Brandon Routh won't be married to Kate Bosworth in the next Superman movie, rest assured...just former lovers with a history in the past)

e) Clark is a moper.
I mean... if that's not a big whopping huge devastating anvil even a coyote wouldn't recover from, than I don't know what is.
j) In S4, When Lana comes back from Paris and thinks Clark is dating Lois, he adamantly denies it, calling Lois rude, annoying, and says that he "can't stand her." And Princess Lana herself says: "The best ones always start out that way." And in the formula that is American television, Lana is 100% right. Then, when the two that allegedly can't stand each other (or for whatever other reasons can't be together, e.g. Clana for seasons 1-6) finally admit that they are in love and get together, the show collapses. So what does that say about us as a viewing audience??
But I digress. Clark is Superman, so Lois is the only answer to the OP question.

Wow Minela your a whiz at this...I love how you analyzed it! ;)
LOIS,LOIS and did I mention LOIS!
However in reference to the song here's what I thought of it. These are my thoughts on what it symbolized... First off when Clark was watching Lana's message she says "And please don't come after me.", right after that line the lyrics of the back ground song were "And I'M Paralyzed, And I'M Paralyzed". This referred to the Clark and Lana relationship and how deep it was and how distrout Clark was at the moment.:(
When Clark turns around and sees Lois the lyrics are "And wonder if you noticed that you've changed my life" now this line can be refering both to Lois and Lana but the eye contact was between Clark and Lois, but I guess it could go both ways.
Plus the Line "And wonder if you noticed that you've changed my life" was repeated twice maybe once for Lana in his past and now for Lois in the present.
However when Clark and Lois are hugging and swaying they zoom out and the last lyric of the song is "Your Perfect" for me this was referring to Lois;), that there finally has been a shift in the tides.

Who is "perfect" for Clark
<LABEL for=rb_optionnumber_1><INPUT id=rb_optionnumber_1 type=radio value=1 name=optionnumber>Lana</LABEL>
<LABEL for=rb_optionnumber_2><INPUT id=rb_optionnumber_2 type=radio value=2 name=optionnumber>Lois</LABEL>
For Smallville Clark? Chloe. Maybe it's Lois for the Clark from the Superman movies. But Chloe is perfect for THIS Clark (too bad he doesn't realize it). Chloe is a person who is always there for him, a person whom he can trust unconditionally, and a person without the "baggage" Lana has. Lex kind of ruined the sweet Lana Clark originally fell in love with. It's pretty obvious he belongs with Chloe.
-M-
I noticed Chloe wasn't an option, but I included her in my response.
I have yet to see Chloe achieve anything other than sidekick status with Clark either personally or romantically. Professionally, she is the hero and he the sidekick. Any time he shows jealously in regards to her, it has been more "Dog in the Manger'ish". I just cannot imagine them as lovers.
As for Lana, I dislike Clana on so many levels that I am going to have to eliminate her as well. She is like pink kryptonite. So far, she has been Clarks greatest weakness...And I don't mean that in a good way. He become a complete p***y around her.
That leaves Lois. At this point, he isn't in love with her. However, once the Lana crap is exorcised from him (may it not require Exorcist help) I think he will have a whole new attitued. She brings out the snarky butthead in him...AKA a human male.<G>
I think he will begin to crave this bit of normalcy and eventually crave the person that gives it to him.
I can't wait to see what happens in season 8...May it not suck like season 7.

No contest: Chloe.
She's the perfect mix of her spunky cousin (without the annoying stuff) and Lana. She's been by Clark's side through it all and been his one stalwart-go-to-companion. She complements him so well with her powers (the people that Clark can't save? Have Chloe heal them!). She knows his secret and is not only ok with it but thinks it is cool. She also loves the complete Clark Kent (c'mon, Lois has always had more of thing for Superman than for Clark).
In short Chloe is the perfect match for Clark (I've been saying it for years now; so want to hit him upside the head with a 2x4 and maybe he'll finally see the light!).

How? She turns around and runs back to Clark after spending a significant amount of time rebuilding her relationship with Jimmy? The fact that there was a Chloe and Clark kiss every season up through season 5, and for the past two seasons there hasn't been one, is pretty telling.

Lois. You can't help but love them together.
Clois is such a brother sister relationship! God, thinking of them is like thinking about me with one of my brothers yuk!
I think it's funny once Lois gets a hearting lead THEN they add Chloe smh...
Chloe is perfect for Clark. I don't care what people say. She's the one who stands beside him, she's the one who motivates him, she's the one who's there for him. When Lana went into the coma he moped and went suicidal. When Chloe went into the coma, Clark hunted Brainaic down and took him out.
Lois is not even a contender. Just earlier in the episode he witness Lois being heartless to her cousin for telling him he should be happy Chloe lost her job. He also knows Lois does not want to date a person like him. He looses Lana because of who he is.
Judging who's perfect because of 1 scene and 1 freaking song is obsurd. One scene cannot undermined an entire season worth of development.
Who's perfect for Clark? Chloe Sullivan.

Who's perfect for Clark? Chloe Sullivan.
But they have such a mother/son relationship, in season 7 Chloe/Clark have as about as much sexual chemistry as Martha and Clark(ie none)

The scene where Clark watches the Lana video you hear the song perfect in the background, who was the song about Lana or Lois?
If that song was intended to be about one of them, then definitely Lana, because she is the one Clark always considered to be his "perfect" dreamgirl, and he's even used that term in describing things about her before, and also since the song talks about being "paralyzed" it is most definitely fitting as Lana basically "paralyzed" Clark as long as she's been in his life, and, she was pretty much paralyzed by Brainiac because of their relationship.
But if the question were simply "Who is perfect for Clark" the answer unequivocally is Chloe! She's his complement in every way. No one could ever care for him as much as she does, and that's reciprocated, "it goes both ways". :)

Nope, ClarkMan still does not have the 'hots' for lois, she has to run and cling to him, he doesn't seek her out, plus, she showed his true lack of esteem for lois by returning her uninhibited gift of her favorite White Snake loves song. ClarkMan knows that she really is 'as dumb as a post.'
Chloe, like Scully, is the favorite person for ClarkMan as Scully was for Mulder, no matter who jumped all over the latter before he finally discovered for himself who was perfect for him.

Sure I can deny it (the purported sexual attraction between ClarkMan and this version of lois), it's easy; he sees her naked and dripping wet and shows no signs of enthusiasm or arousal (which any 'normal' male with testosteroe, this leave our little Jimmy, would have done; under the influence of RedK he could have dorked her easily, but dumps lois at the first opportunity to go back to his flat-chested true love, Lana; he returns lois' her most personal and heart-warming gift, her White Snake work of luv; in the AU without ClarkMan a couple of weeks ago, lois was clearly giving signs of open-arms and open-knees to the new super guy on the block, but he didn't waste any time on her; and when he was checking on those her cared about in that alternate universe, it was Lana and Chloe he sought out...not a single hint of the purported 'sexual chemistry/tension' driving him to determine lois' health and well-being; and finally, her butting-in on his private moment of pain as he watches his Dear John video...she was unrequested, univited, and she clung all over him. In reality, this lois couldn't be any easier pickins for Clarkman if he wanted to add her to his resume' of Lana and Alicia (maybe Simone), heck, it only took Grant a couple of episodes to use her. ClarkMan has not attraction to this lois, her pheromones don't work on him, any tension is because he realizes how totally opposite and incompatible they are and he is basically uncomfortable with her person and personality. On top of all that, she confessed her envy of Oliver/Green Arrow Bandit's destiny being so much greater than hers; he knows that she couldn't cut it with someone who is virtually a demi-god that he is to be.
See, its easy.

Damn how did I miss this post, well said Minela, nice list! :)

The sexual chemistry/tension between Lois and Clark is undeniable, you can't miss it! If Chloe hadn't walked in on them in that first scene in Arctic, they would have ended up making out fo sho! :D
Sure ya can. Just look around all them posts here and around the forum.
Folks, those of y'all who ar still clinging to any other 'ship besides Clois... sorry my friends, you really are in denial. I don't intend to be rude, I don't intend to judge you. My only intention is stating the cold, hard truth for y'all.
You may not believe EDLois is Iconic Lois Lane. You may think Chloe is more ILL, therefore she IS ILL. You may think Chloe will become Lois. You may think Chloe and Clark will get passed the platonic phase and hook up. All of this is fine, as we are all entitled to our opinions, and we are all entitled to wish for different things to happen. That don't mean they will happen though.
Like I said before, Lois and Clark is 70 years of history. It's been done in different ways. It's been played by different actors. They ended up happily ever after, or tragically appart. They've been through hell and back more times than one can count. They had relationship issues that none of us can even begin to comprehend. Yet, one thing is constant. It's obvious they are destined to be together, and it's obvious they love eachother.
Even in Superman Returns their feelings for eachother are obvious, though they are appart. I'm pretty sure that in the thrid movie of the series (supposing they get that far) or maybe even the second, the character of Richard White will somehow be taken out of the picture, as he is nothing more than a pawn, a plot device.
I know, I know... everything I said is purely speculation on my part. Right. I have no official sources in the TV or movie buisness to confirm this. However, it's specualtion with more than 95% odds of happening.
EDIT: Oh and... if the lyrics of the song were for Lana as some of y'all state, than why did the "You're perfect" line get played during the longest Clois hug and one of the best Clois moments of the entire series, and not say... during Lana's "I love you... more than you'll ever know" part, huh?
Sorry, but this really is denial.

Quick question... why the heck was Chloe added to the poll? She wasn't even in the damn scene, nor anywhere near at the time.

He sought her out in "Siren" and initiated that hug all on his own. He sought her out in "Zod" when she was in the hospital. Also in "Rage", and many other times.
So as far as seeking her out in general, yes, he does.

I think you were perfectly right with your choices in the poll. Maybe the thread title could be edited for clarification, something along the lines of The "Perfect" song/Lois and Lana.
Chloe was not in that scene, she had nothing to do with that scene, erego she wasn't a choice. That's my interpretation of it.

Well Jenn, my take on it is that whoever added the Chloe option couldn't be arsed to read AlwaysRight's first post, which explained the question. They just read the thread title, perhaps the question on top of the poll and decided it's unfair Chloe ain't there (since she is the queen of the universe an' all)

Especially Crimson - the red K removes Clark's inhibitions, allowing him to not have to hide behind the playful banter and semi-awkwardness he shares with Lois when things are "normal."

AlwaysRight, I'm sorry your thread was highjacked like this.
I'm a Chlark fanatic, in case anyone didn't know, but Chloe's inclusion in your poll is wrong on so many levels. The scene wasn't about her, she wasn't even mentioned. Obviously, the song is not in reference to her.
Putting her in the poll forces Chlark on people who perhaps didn't want to discuss the ship and also is upsetting to Chlarkers because she's so far behind (as she should be because, again, the scene isn't about her).
I hope whoever added her rectifies his/her mistake and removes Chloe from the options.

As Lois would say, Don't be sorry, unless you were the one who added the extra option.
Personally i don't care one way or another about the poll(never take anything too seriously on a message board is my rule of thumb). All i want to say is that i no way am trying to rig this thing(which is understandable from a Chlark fans point of view to think). I personally understand why it was added even if it was vote you favorite ship poll because the fact it was added like 4-5 days after the fact would give Chloe an unfair disadvantage in the numbers field.
As somebody who has a warped sense of humor i actually find it funny
i agree that chloe shouldn't have been added, a neither should have been added instead
If i had to do it again i would have added Clark which i assume would get a bulk of people who rather vote neither(or the least of all evils)

That's actually how I saw it. I never saw the song being from Clark's POV.
It seemed to be from Lana's POV, to me. The reason being is that in the past, "SV" uses songs to show how a character is feeling, but they always use the gender that goes WITH that character. And this song was sung by a woman.
For example, "So much for my happy ending" was clearly from Chloe's POV and it was sung by a woman. "It's time I faced the truth... I can never be with you..." was from Clark's POV and sung by a man in "Reckoning". "Have I told you I ache for you...." was from Ollie's POV and sung by a man. "There will be no white flag above my door, I'm in love and I always will be..." was sung by a woman and was from Lana's POV.
Clearly, I've noticed the song trend waaaayyy too much in "SV", but I just don't get why they would choose a female artist to articulate how Clark was feeling at the time.
And, in this specific case, the lyrics fit with how Lana would be feeling at the time of the recording - she thinks Clark is a perfect person (because, in a weird way, he is) and this is how she feels about him.
And, regarding Lois: I guess the POV could have flipped over to her when the scene shifted to her & Clark. But I still thought it was the lingering words of Lana casting a shadow over their hug. I didn't see it as Lois looking at Clark that way. Because Lois doesn't think that Clark is perfect.
To me, it was a Lana song that was about Clark.

Ahem. allow me to quote myself.

I dunno, I think it was more of an anvil
I've heard the entire song and I find it very interesting that they chose the words they did from it.
If the words they decided to use are supposed to be tabout Lana Lang then they really chose the wrong ones out of the song.. lots of other verses from that song would have explained the lana situation to the audience much, much better, Considering she is actually leaving clark..
here's the song. Bolded are the verses they actually felt important to use in the scene..the ones that are not bold re the ones they decided not to use in the scene:
I see you across a crowded room
I see you across a crowded room
I see you across a crowded room
and I'm paralized
I'm paralized, becuase you're perfect
I wonder if i'll ever get to talk to you
I wonder if i'll ever get to talk to you
I wonder if i'll ever get to talk to you
when I'm paralized
I'm paralized
because you're perfect
When you leave tonight
and a lovely smile
and the way you shine
it wont be mine
If all i get is just one day
I'll have to say
in every way, you're perfect
I wonder if you'll notice that you'll change my life
I wonder if you'll notice that you'll change my life
I wonder if you'll notice that you'll change my life
And Im paralized
I'm paralized, because you're perfect
when you leave tonight
your lovely smile
and the way you shine
It wont be mine
If all I get is just a day
I'll have to say, in every way
you're perfect
You're perfect... [/quote]
interesting how they didnt use the verses that aren't bold, They could have easily made this obviously about Lana lang.but it appeared to bend more towards Lois lane and how clark wil feel about her especially as the lyrics only really become audible when she walks in and the fact lana is no where to be seen when "you're perfect" is uttered twice, Lois is in the shot both times

If you have to call it an anvil, at least it was a really really well done and tasteful anvil.
The music got turned up when Clark turned to Lois, by the way... maybe a bit before, when he turned off the TV. The "I see you across a crowded room" verse was playing below the dialogue. Then, during that transition, the music got turned up, and was played over Lois' one little line there when she was hugging Clark. Which makes sense, because it was a whisper, but... if we're analyzing the thing this much, I think there's something to be said for the fact that the music wasn't played at one constant level throughout the scene.

ok so its from a female character's POV, which makes a lot of sense
but, If it was from lana's POV Then the lyrics chosen by the writers make absolutely no sense what so ever to Lana Lang and what she is doing and saying within this scene..the spesific lyrics chosen in the scene are "I see you across a crowded room, I see you across a crowded room, I see you across a crowded room and im paralized, I'm paralized because you're perfect"
I wonder if you notice that you'll change my life, I wonder if you notice that you'll change my life, i wonder if you notice that you'll change my life...you're perfect"
The only woman who sees clark across any kind of room is Lois Lane
The only woman who appears to be paralized by what she sees is Lois lane
The only person who is perfect for Lois lane is Clark kent and vise versa
and as is said by Ryudo, the lyrics become loud and clear the second Lois lane enters the room.
Also consider how Lana basically says "we thought we were perfect for eachother but we were kidding ourselves", bit odd isnt it if she thinks its all perfect and he's perfect for her?
when you consider that it may be an anvil..of how Lois/clark will feel towards eachother it becomes more plausible to be about clois
Also all you have to do is look at what literally happens here as the song is playing:
Lana lang breaks up with clark for good because they are not perfect for one another and Lois lane his perfect one true love then enters and is there to pick up the pieces.
To be honest. i didnt see that last "perfect" as anyones point of view..it happens as they are hugging basically saying "perfect" together.

I just happened to watch Reckoning last night.
In DVD commentary they said that they usually match the voice to the character. If it's a woman, it's the woman's point of view. Memoria was unusual because it's was Clark's POV but a woman singing (which is where the comment was made).
I think it was Lana singing about Clark, plain and simple. The song played as soon a Clark heard she left a video, it was Lana's voice and nothing to do with Lois or Chloe.
The poll was ineptly titled IMO, sorry, but that's undoubtedly what has caused these pages of commentary. Who was the song about would have been a better title then what was mistaken for a shipper poll IMO.

Why couldn't it be both Lana and Lois?
Lana with the whole, "I see you across a crowded room, and I'm paralyzed, because you're perfect," blends in with, "I love you more than you will ever know, but we're fooling ourselves because I think I'm holding you back."
And then Lois with, "I wonder if you've noticed that you've changed my life," because she has gone through more changes in three years and her friendship with Clark has grown and blossomed. IMO she probably considers him a very close, if not best, friend, although she'd never admit it to him (or probably herself, given the awkward look and the punch at the end of Apocalypse).
If you'd read the entire thread you'd notice that most of the people are actually trying to analyze what the song meant and what the writers/directors/producers were attempting to infer with the inclusion of the song. I hardly think this thread has degraded into something that can so loosely be called a "shipper poll."

Actually the lyrics say:
"I wonder if you'll notice that you'll change my life"
if I am not mistaken, but still applies to Lois.
Why couldn't it be both Lana and Lois?
Because for ~80% of the song playing it's Clark and Lana's scene and Lois comes in at the end. If it was a duet of women, maybe. But it's not. This is Lana's farewell to Clark.
Actually, Lois and Clark's relationship has been relatively peripheral for S4-7. The Kents as a whole influence Lois more than Clark individually IMO. Clark has far more changed Lana's life than Lois --- at this point. Even in the AU, Lois was more competent without Clark around (I'm guessing because she's more mature) but she was not dramatically different than in RL. S8 is a different story for Lois and Clark and I'm sure he will make a difference for her then. But, if there is a Clois "song" moment, I don't expect alt rock as much. I could be wrong, but I associated the alt rock as sort of the teen angst thing for Clana. I would expect something different for Lois and Clark, something more mature.

I did slug thru the whole thread, and have been watching it since it began. I'm responding to the whole "add Chloe" business with my original comment. This thread is about the song, and got hijacked into shipping. Even your comment about Lois --- seems to me you're trying to insist Lois has a role in the song. For what purpose? So she didn't have a voice in the song, what is the big deal? She was a witness to Clark's pain. Just like Chloe was a witness to Clark's pain in Veritas. That had a song too -- a male voice song so it was Clark's voice.

I have to agree, the "you'll change my life" does indicate that it will occur and hasn't yet, and that alone would indicate Lois over Lana.
I still prefer to see it as both women. Both Lana and Lois believe that Clark is perfect.
I do just wish I understood Lana's motives better. Is it about self preservation or giving up her love for a greater good? She's says they are not meant for each other, and I don't think her motive agrees with her words here. Is anyone else at odds end with this?

I still think applies to both the first half to Lana the second to Lois. If you have the whole song in fact you'll say the the 2/3 part could be in Lana's POV.
"I see you across a crowded room (x3), and I'm paralyzed, because you're perfect"
"I wonder if I'll ever get to talk to you (x3), when I am paralyzed, cause you are perfect"
"When you leave tonight, your lovely smile and the way you shine, it won't* be mine, if all I get is just one day, I have to say, in everyway, you are perfect"
And the last part of the song.
"I wonder if you'll notice that you'll change my life(x3), and I am paralyzed, because you are perfect"
"When you leave tonight, your lovely smile and the way you shine, it won't be mine if all I get is just one day, I have to say, in everyway, you are perfect"
(*) I am not sure if it is won't

While on the hand, I can see why you feel that way, I do have do have to say that I felt like it was Lana until the very end... because Clark did change her life and will always have that affect on her. This is her irony - her sadness. That even though she loves him so much, she's leaving him. And she's hoping that he'll know that he did influence her and she's taking something good with her.
Look, I ship Clois (clearly) but I just didn't see it as Lois singing that last part. I didn't think it was articulating her feelings. Because, honestly, I don't think that Lois is going to look at Clark and go, "I wonder if you'll notice you'll change my life." Because, um, what? Why would she think that at this stage? But Lana would. That's her basically hoping that he can get past the hurt she's causing him and think for a moment that what Lana did required strength and there was something good there. She wants him to think of her fondly and realize that she loved him and will love him for the rest of her life.
And, again, I don't think Lois thinks Clark is perfect. She doesn't romanticize him like Lana and Chloe do. She doesn't look at him and think, "Man, I hope you know you're perfect." Why would she? But Lana does. Her leaving him was painful for her for this very reason. Because he's destined to be Superman - as perfect of a man as can be - and she thinks that if she is selfish, she'll stop him from that. And she wants him to realize that it's for his own good and hopes that he can forgive her and not be angry at her.
At least that's how I saw it. And, again, I'm a Cloiser. ;)

I have always held the opinion that each woman has truly been the "right" person for Clark when he needed her to be during different and certain moments in his journey. They all have helped shape him into the man he becomes.

From what I can see, the question is referring to the scene in arctic with Lana's video, Lois holding Clark, and a song saying "You're Perfect" on the background...
Now, I get Lana and Lois, but what is Chloe doing in this poll?? She wasn't anywhere near that scene.

Lois is the perfect woman for Clark we all know that...
What i dont understand is how you can vote for Chloe. Clark doesnt have any romantic feelings for her.. The only time we have seen Clark showing any romantic feelings for Chloe was in 1 episode in season 1 and they didn't even kiss. I dont think Chloe deserves to be in a relationship with someone who doesnt love her back, even though he will become the world greatest superhero!! So why vote for her?? Please explain that??
I'm completely ignoring mythos as I talk about this. We all know Clark & Lois end up with each other in the comics and the movies, blah blah. But Smallville is its own thing. I don't care what the writers say, it is an alternate universe to the Superman mythology. Which is perfectly fine with me. I'm just saying that just because the mythos says so, doesn't mean it affects my decision. Anyway:
I love Lana, I really do. And as much as I want to say she is the perfect one for Clark... I can't. Lana and Clark grew into people that were not the same as they were in high school. Lana is not the person that Clark fell in love with. They finally got their real chance in season seven. But it didn't work. They were all sweet to each other and all that, but the same spark wasn't there. It was a very luke warm relationship in the sexual chemistry department. One of the saddest, but one of my favorite, moments in the show is in "Persona" where Bizarro basically says that Lana does not love Clark (at least as "the one", an unconditional soul mate) and we can see on Lana's face that it's true. They weren't the same people anymore (especially Lana, after what Lex did to her) and took different paths. This is not a bad thing at all. People grow and change, it's natural. I still love the character of Lana, I enjoy seeing her and Clark together, but I also understand that they are no longer right for one another.
Chloe... I have never seen them as a couple. Obviously she has wanted them to be, but Clark has never really responded to that. That type of relationship is just not there for them. Chloe is perfect, but she's a perfect friend.
So, I definitely have to go with Lois. And, again, not because the mythos says so, but because of this:
a) Lois Lane and Clark have sexual chemistry which is a very important ingredient for love.
b) Arguably, Lois is the one female on this show who really understands Clark the best.
He seems the most carefree when around her, which cannot be said for either Lana or Chloe.
xxx
e) Clark is a moper.
Remember he knows Clarks most hidden and darkest thoughts.
xxx
That pretty much sums it up. I cut out a few things from the above post that either weren't relevant to me, or dealt with mythos type things (Lois walking into the room right at the moment Clark mentions "the one" or something like that). If you would like to see that persons full post, make sure to click on the link to it. I would also like to thank the person who made that post, as it really sums things up nicely and saved me a lot of typing time. :D

LOLOL, so much for that aye!!! LOLOL, it's so good to look back sometimes:rotfl:

"You know what it's like being friends with Clark. No matter what he tells you, you don't know If it's the truth. You can never trust him."
Oh yes you can. You just have to want to and you have to have a little faith. And that is what Lana has always been lacking. Faith and trust in Clark. As I said in another topic:
The problem with Clana is that she never trusted him. He didn't trust her with his secret but he tried to keep it from anyone because he was raised that way and tried to protect people from having to keep his secret. She never trusted him as a person. She said that in Hypnotic but it's also very evident in the early, even pre-first-relationship episodes. She's scared of the world and the mysterious things in it. Maybe that led her ultimately to the power suit. Not to be equal to Clark, but to feel save.
Just take Hug for example. She was scared of Kyle Tippet without having a real reason for it. She even accused Clark of wanting to "knock Whitney" just because he didn't see it the same way she did. In season 2's Dichotic she again suspected him of jealousy. Did she learn the lesson then? No of course not. Only two episodes later in Visage she accused him again when he noticed that "Whitney" was behaving strangely. In season 3's Extinction again she was on the side of a guy she didn't even know and unleashed all her meteor freak hate on Clark to whom she again did not listen. She tried to make it up in the end but after her previous rants I (if I were Clark) wouldn't have opened up to her either - even if I were just a "normal meteor freak". Four episodes later the same pattern. Yes she was under a spell, but still, no benefit of the doubt. Then came Adam Knight.
One year later. She immediately comes to the conclusion that Clark must have been the person that ratted Jason out to the school board. She didn't ask him, she just "thanked" him. And even when she found out she only half-heartedly apologized.
One year later. Clark had broken up with her. She could have given that whole dating thing a rest giving her track record (Whitney [dead], Clark, Adam [evil dead], Jason [evil dead], Clark), but no, despite warnings of her friends. OK, her ignoring Clark at that point is understandable - but Chloe? What reason would she have to warn her of Lex? Even Lionel warned her and I think she's one of the few people who doesn't have a bad personal history with him). When Chloe tried to warn her again, she was already "pregnant". And then her hatred of the meteor-infected came up again (BTW: Did she ever learn that Chloe was infected?).
And despite her expectance of honesty towards her she also kept quite a number of secrets over the years and that was long before season seven and her "Isis Foundation".
Granted, regarding keeping secrets all the characters are hypocrites. Just look how upset Clark always gets when someone is keeping something from him but at least he gets called on it or acknowledges his hypocrisy.
IMHO Lana just doesn't fit in Clark's world, secret or not. Lois and Lana had both their fair share of hospital beds but Lana landed there as damsel in distress and Lois as wounded in action.
What made Lois so special is the fact that she treated him like he always wanted to be treated: a normal guy who grew up on a farm: WYSIWYG. Maybe that's what makes him so comfortable around her. She never tried to get a glimpse behind the mask because she did not suspect that there is a mask. Lana and Chloe always tried to see beyond the masquerade and his response was raising his shields (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKXBqs1flqQ). In order to protect his secret he also built a wall around his emotions. Lana noticed that in Cyborg. Since Lois never unleashed her trebuchet at his secret walls he felt that he could lower his defenses with her and that allowed them to connect on an emotional level.
The reverse is also true. Lois never saw Clark as a danger or someone who could hurt her, so it was easier for her to open up to him when she had something on her mind.
