View Full Version : Chloe shouldn't have been the one to save Clark

It should not have been Chloe who saved Clark from that table in this episode. She really had no business in that scene. I think now that they showed time traveling in this show, they should have had someone else save Clark---namely Kem-El (Clark's ancestor from the comics)!!
How great would it have been had Kem-El shown up after becoming the Kryptonian who discovered time travel and saved Clark? This would have truly brought the legend of Naman full circle. This would have provided an explanation of why there was a cave glyph showing Naman surrounded by the same shape that appeared on the table. It would also have given a chance for Kem-El to know the future events after having a discussion with Clark and travel to Earth after he gets back to his own time (which would be the 1500s) so he could start the legend in the Kawatche cave and begin to work on the cave technology. They could have shown him getting killed by a ship malfunction on his return trip to Krypton back in the 1500s sparking the work on the portals to begin by his children so that future Kryptonians going to Earth wouldn't have to be exposed to the dangers of ship travel (since their ships would have been more primitive back in those days).
I think this would have worked perfectly and it's a shame they didn't do it. At least they could have had a mysterious figure in the background superspeed out of the church after Clark was saved who had been present to hear what Edward Teague was telling Clark so he would know the history of Clark. There was a priest who came in at the end of the Lex-Edward fight. I highly doubt that he will be revealed as Kem-El though.

That sounds pretty cool. Kem-el, I never heard of him before.

There was an issue of the comics where Superman met his spirit back when he was unable to control the Eradicator, and Kem-El's spirit put him through a rite of passage that Superman passed and was thereafter able to shut the Eradicator down.
This is what I think they should have done in season 8. The rite of passge in learning how to control the Eradicator and dealing with the consequences of its actions should be part of Clark's training in season 8, though I doubt this would happen.
Having Kem-El in Quest could have gotten the ball rolling.

What is this Eradicator? What does it do?

The Eradicator is a Kryptonian device that houses AI that was built to protect Krypton and its culture. In the comics it eventually cloned Superman's body and possessed it during the Reign of the Supermen (which took place after Superman died, right after the "Funeral for a Friend" storyline). He (the Eradicator--since it was now a humanoid form) had most of Superman's powers but some were different. He had to wear a yellow visor because his vision was affected by various forms of light. His body was killed by the Cyborg Superman when he shot a beam of kryptonite radiation at the newly returned and severely depowered Superman, which the Eradicator blocked with his own body. The Eradicator's energy as he blocked the beam recharged Superman's powers. The Eradicator returned to a humanoid form later on.
But before taking the humanoid form, the Eradicator was a device that tried to restore Krypton on Earth because it is what it was programmed to do. It also thought that this is what Superman wanted. Superman after meeting Kem-El's spirit went through the rite of passage, learned how to control it and commanded it to shut down. The Eradicator was earlier thrown into the Antarctic ice by Superman and formed the Fortress of Solitude. But after that, it did all sorts of things like making Jimmy Olsen malleable and created portals to the Phantom Zone after possessing scientists.
So by explaining that the Eradicator was buried under the Arctic ice when Clark threw the unified crystal (in Commencement) in Smallville, they could show how it was the guiding force that caused the crystal to land where it did. This is what I highly suggest they do.
Here are some shots of the Eradicator:

Here are some shots of the Cyborg Superman (Hank Henshaw--probably the coolest villian they could have on this show given his powers IMO):

Oh wow! I think that would have been a really good addition if they included the eradicator. Clark destroying it and it could have become one of his villains during season 8 too! This Kem-el and eradicator storyline would have been an excellent path for them to follow. I wonder if any of the writers suggested it but got turned down?
I like that idea and it's always nice to dream of where the story could have gone. I have high hopes for season 8 and of course I want to see where this story goes in artic!

Well, the Eradicator shouldn't be evil persay, but instead an obstacle for Clark to control so that it could go from a severe problem to a useful tool and future ally as a result of Clark learning how to master it.

Sweet pictures. I've always enjoyed comic book cover art.
It would have been interesting to see Clark meet Kem-el and go through the rite of passage to learn how to control the Eradicator.
What was involved during Superman's rite of passage? Do you think it's something smallville could have done ?

If I remember correctly, it was a bunch of mental tests. It's been a while since I read those, so I may be wrong. I lost some Superman & Spider-Man comics I know I had and recently had to buy them again. Hopefully I have that one and can check it out.
But if anything, instead of Doomsday, I would introduce Hank Henshaw. The big problem with that is the cost of the special effects of having a cyborg version of Clark around. In the comics, Hank was a member of a space mission that went horribly bad. Some radiation got into the ship and severely disfigured and killed the members. It was very similar to the Fantastic Four, but the results were bad. Superman tried to help them, but there was nothing he could do. Henshaw's body was dead, but his consciousness was transferred to a computer at Lexcorp. After his essence disrupts NASA satellites, he transfers it to Superman's birthing matrix (in the comics this is analogous to Clark's ship in the show) and creates a vessel that he explored space & other planets & lifeforms with. While on his exploration trip, he creates a body with living parts that is a clone of Superman's but with cybernetic portions. He goes insane after a while on his trip and starts thinking that it was Superman who caused his & his wife's deaths. So this is when he plans to return & replace Superman (after Superman died). One of his coolest abilities is transferring his consciousness from his body to any electronic or even mechanical device. So it is extremely hard to kill him because he is a technopath who can possess any device, such as a tracker he placed on Doomsday after hurling Doomsday in space (which he did after his original cyborg body was destroyed).
I introduced him in my fanfic Eradication, which was my season 6 finale (episode 6.22) in the timeline I created that spun off from the official timeline as of episode 6.18 (which was Retribution for me vs. Progeny in the official series). In Retribution, Lionel cashes in on Lex's debt to him for taking care of Dr. Langston's corpse in the church crypt (from Promise). He commands Lex to order him certain cybernetic limbs and parts from Cyntechnics--the company that experimented on Victor Stone in Cyborg. Then the next episode I wrote was Eradication where Clark shows up to the FOS & tries to start his training, but notices that Jor-El's AI is absent. He finds Lionel laughing and Lionel tells him how he tracked the Luthorcorp jet that crashed in Vessel/Zod to the location of the FOS and revived it himself after temporarily stealing the crystal. He then explains how Hank Henshaw was aboard a state of the art spacecraft that was severely damaged by the nuke that Clark hurled in Hidden and how the radiation destroyed huge portions of Hank's body. He then explained how he used Clark's DNA to save Hank's life, but that the DNA turned Hank's remaining living limbs and parts into a clone of Clark. He revealed that while Clark had been away from the FOS, that Hank was there getting trained by Jor-El because Jor-El thought that Hank was Clark and had been severely disfigured from his lack of training. After completing the training, Lionel & Hank dug through the foundation of the FOS and found Clark's ship buried, which had reintegrated there after exploding in Exodus. He also revealed that a piece of a legendary Kryptonian device called the Eradicator was built into Clark's ship and that it is what guided the crystal to land where it did when it formed the FOS. He then sent Hank to the Phantom Zone with the "S" crystal to protect him to retrieve a 2nd piece of the Eradicator that was hidden there by Jor-El. Hank shows up as Lionel is talking to Clark and KO's him with the octagonal key. Hank has access to the Phantom Zone because his blood now matched Clark's. Lionel shows what is left of the 3rd and final piece of the Eradicator--the remaining fragments of what was used as Brainiac's power source that were missing after Clark heatvisioned the power source in Zod. Lionel combines the 3 pieces and the device takes the legendary form of the Eradicator. He places the cybernetic limbs he got from Lex in the appropriate areas of Hank's body uses the Eradicator to blast Hank's body, causing the cybernetic limbs & parts to permanently fuse on to his body and fully charges his superstrength to a level that is even greater than Clark's. This is my personal origin of how Hank Henshaw becomes a cyborg Clark in my own fanfic timeline.

Yeah, Chloe going to save Clark was dodgy - coming via Ollie's plane. But this Kem -el guy sounds cool, the ep would have been excellent.

^^But that's like saying only focus on the regulars. Then why have Edward Teague?
I didn't suggest having Kem-El as a regular. He could have appeared in 2 episodes--this one and another one where they could have shown him speaking to the Kawatche or perhaps going back to Krypton of his era and trying to prevent its destruction and show how it never happened (like him getting killed before spreading the word about the technology he started, etc).
Chloe to the rescue has gotten very old and especially in this episode where having a character like Kem-El would have properly closed the loop on the prophecy.
