Several times this season as well as in past seasons, Clark has proudly proclaimed that he X-ray'd the entire mansion (from top to bottom), when he's been looking for something. If that's the case, then how did he miss a kryptonian device hidden behind a brick over the fireplace?

He missed it, because the writers decided shortly after the end of season 6 that they want to bring up the Veritas story. Did Clark x-ray the mansion since the beginning of season 7? I don't remember, but I doubt it. And even if he did, he surely missed that single point over the fireplace *lol*.

The last time he did it was in "Descent", when Clark was looking for the keys.

:\That's a reasonable idea, but he would have HAD to KNOW What he was looking for. Lex had to figure it out After following several Clues. ;) Besides, Clark said that he had x-rayed Lex. The small device was on the floor somewhere when Lex picked it up again after he and Teague's fight was interrupted by Clark. Well, that's IMHO. :p

But that's just it, it wasn't wrapped in anything or behind anything. It was just sitting behind the brick and Lex chipped the brick away and grabbed it. And that's not necessarily correct that he had to know what he was looking for. All the other times he uses x-ray, he's just looiking for anything (i.e. in "Freak", when he x-ray'd Chloe and found a GPS tracker).

Maybe there's lead in the fireplace. I mean, whoever hid it knew about Clark, it was the control device for Clark...so they'd want to hide it behind lead. It makes sense.

Which ironically makes sense if you want to keep it out of sight from a Kryptonian in the first place.

Not to mention that even Kara has x-rayed the entire mansion along with Clark. There's so much wrong with the Veritas storyline it's not even funny. I actually preferred the witch plot to this one.

Yah I am going with the bricks had traces of lead in them since the bricks where made long before they knew that lead was dangerous.

Because he assumed it was a Magic 8 Ball...
I'm still convinced it is.

1. the internal fireplace was possibly coated in lead ( not an uncommon thing for fireplaces tbh )
thats what im going with
oh and another point in reference to why clark didnt see the item on the floor when lex/ET were fighting
2. clark's xray vision isnt constantly on he switches between it hence he did not use it during the lex/ET fight

I didn't think he has ever used it in the mansion except when he was looking for Lex's watch in season one and those listening devices in season two.

Another sign of the Poor writing, they just write whatever they want to create plot!

What bugs me is that lately they rearly show how Clark puts his abilities to good use.I think that he was shown x-raying something only one time in this season, using his superhearing a little more often but not often enough, the same for his heatvision and of course superbreath. The writers should invent more stories when he really puts those abilities to good use.
I love when CK uses them it makes the show so more interesting, exciting and unique in comparison to other tv shows!

Sounds like we are discussing two different things: the crystal globe and the shield shaped device Lex found in the clock. Regarding the shield thingie, Clark said he x-rayed Lex and the thing wasn't on Lex at the time. Regarding the globe thing, Clark has x-rayed the mansion more than once, but when he did that perhaps he was looking for something specific like a key and if he saw the globe thing in the fireplace, how would he have any idea what it was? The whole control Clark device issue is still fairly new for Clark. The globe would have had no signiicance for Clark until now.
