You know, having watched every episode since the pilot, I should have known better. But, given that it's the penultimate episode for the season, I was still hyped to watch it, if only to see how my appetite was going to be whetted for the Season Finale. So WHY WAS THIS EPISIODE SO LAME?!
The appearance of another Teague in a French setting (Montreal), with knowledge of the arcane (Veritas) and who somehow is tied to Clark's destiny in a sick, parallel way SCREAMS Season 4, no? How unoriginal. And the fact that the writer (Holly Harold) decided to use Teague to basically take a plot dump on us by rehashing all of the history of Veritas so that the weak plot made any sense really stinks (pun intended). How insulting!
This episode was howlingly bad, not only for the plot, but also for the lack thereof. Where was Kara? After having seen her collapse on the floor last week in excruciating pain in the show's ending scene, you'd think that there would be some examination into what happens next. Instead, we're to believe that Clark is so focused on finding out about Veritas that he doesn't even think about Kara or where she is (or isn't) while going about his days on the farm? Please. And Lana? I guess she's just totally out of the picture until next week when they need her again -- since she's a convenient vegetable and all.
As for the parallelism of Season Four with this ep., Clark is able to construct The Fortress from the plot-coupon crystals he quested for that season, and now Lex has ended his quest with a crystal that is certainly Fortress-related is not lost on me. Throw in all of the Scooby-Doo deductions between Clark and Chloe, and Jimmy's "ambitious reporter" take on the Kawatchie Cave drawings, and you have what is nothing more than a silly mess to watch for yet another week, instead of an interesting climax-building turn that points to a truly awesome Finale. Sheesh.
