Did Lionel protect Clark/Veritas from Helen Bryce?

Remember in season 2 when Lex's fiancee Helen found out about Clark's secret(his blood)?

Didn't Lionel pay her off to get the blood back?

Or maybe she was in league with Lionel and tried to kill Lex for Lionel because she's a Veritas member too?

Sounds Crazy, but nothing would suprise anymore with this show.

Cool thought, but I think that Lionel really was trying to learn Clark's secret for his own gain back then. Back then, Lionel was evil. It wasn't until his intentions changed once he became the emissary of Jor-El a few seasons later.
