It seems that in Season 6, we caught a glimpse of Clark starting to fulfill his destiny, by fighting "zoners", getting a little training in the fortress and kicking some butt. It seems he has been rather helpless in season 7. The real heroes have been Chloe and Lana at times, and definitely Kara. It was so sad to see him just watch Brainiac and Kara fly away a few episodes ago, like he has become somewhat helpless. I know he tries, like in this episode when he went back in time to Krypton. Clark shows up and tells Brainiac that he will stop him, but then he just gets slapped around, and it's Kara to the rescue again. Your thoughts?

to me it seems like Clark has been stagnant since season 5. My guess is TBTP has a 5 or 6 year plan and once they got to season 5, they decided they wanted to do more seasons so they are just dragging out his progress.

Yeah I agree, it seems in the Kara/Clark scenes it's always Kara who saves the day....which was what I was afraid of when they first announced they were bringing her on. Oh well, I still enjoy the characters and the show.

i think he is to some degree... but for me its like in this recent episode he knows lex killed lionel but he is still conversting with him pleasantly after two weeks ago they were in eachother's faces..and clark knows lex is looking for his secret...its just so retarded the plot holes

My thoughts exactly. ;)

He was but I think this epsiode should put him back on track. He has made some bad decisions which have affected other people and he has been plagued by guilt for that and for things that aren't necessarily his fault like the metor shower. He has always wondered whether the lives of people around him would be better if he wasn't around but now he know that it is not possible to go back to the past to make this things better and the world does need him it should put him on the path to greater things.

clarkbunny,

Agreed. And I agree with all of you who say he's been a bit stagnant this season. Perhaps that is what has disappointed me a bit this season. There's been SO many cool things that I've loved all year (Kara, Lionel's redemption, Lex's final fall to darkness with the Julian clone and killing his own father, Veritas, the return of Green Arrow, the introduction of Black Canary, more Lois, Chloe's power, Chloe and Jimmy), but the thing that has disappointed me has been that, in comparison with season six, Clark has been a bit more held back this year due to his desire for a normal life, to stay on the farm with Lana. Last year, it seemed he finally realized he had to accept his destiny, but this year it seems he's regressed a bit (however, it's important to note, and I put this in one of my vloggers on the CW webiste, that Clark really has been doing what Jor-El asked him: "You must watch over Kara," he said, and that is what Clark has done. It still just feels that he should be out there more trying to save other lives).

However, I think this episode really helped immensely to show him not only his importance in the world, but also, the fact that it's not his fault that all of these bad things have happened, and his affect on the world is more positive than it is negative. I think this will really motivate him more to be the hero we need, the Superman we know: not a guilt-ridden, brooding hero, but a hero filled with pride in himself and in the world he wants to protect.

Once Clana is over, Clark will have more time and desire to fulfill his destiny.

I don't think Clark is digressing. If anything, he's more focused than ever - he's up to his neck in his Kryptonian heritage.
