In the pilot (the first episode), Lex speeds at 60 mph and suddenly sees something on the road and turns, hits Clark, sends them both in the river and Clark saves him.
If Clark wasn't there then it will be Lex drowns in the river and no one saves him.
So how is Lex even around to be president.
Did the other Clark Kent save him or what?

lol, so many things could have been changed...
I guess we're just going to have to chalk it up to 'ripples in time'. That bridge accident may never have happened, as due to earlier events in his life (like meeting Kara), he no longer needed to be in smallville that day. The meteor shower did happen of course. However we found out that Veritas was there to find the traveller, and they found 'her'. So why stay in smallville after that?

The only reason he was drowning in the river is because he hit Clark with his car. Since Clark was not there, there was no one for Lex to hit, and he just sped off on his merry way to wherever he was going.

Actually he almost drowned because his car hit the barbwire and lost control. Clark just happen to be in the way to be hit.
But yeah. I agree with beternal. I think he might not of been in smallville in the first place because his life would of made a different turn

However, Lionel found Kara's ship and she had been with the Luthor's her entire life. Maybe Kara was in the car with him that day, and when he wrecked she pulled him out. I think Kara is how they explained that Clark wasn't needed to save Lex all those time, because Kara did that.

In the Alternate Universe Kara was found in the dam by Lionel. So if that bridge scene did happen again I'm sure Kara saved him.

Lionel still went to meet the traveller, using the Ross Cream Corn Factory as a disguise. So Lex would've still been in the field at the time of impact, thus still ending up bald.

Because of Kara/meteor shower, Lionel probably would have taken Lex to Smallville anyway.
Lionel probably wouldn't have kept Lex in Smallville if Kara hadn't lived there. (Say, she goes through an adoption agency in Metropolis= no Luthor presence in Smallville).
Thus, Lex wouldn't be in town driving on the bridge.

I think the "ripple effect" is correct. We also don't know when Kara was found by Lionel, was it when Clark would have been 20, or a few years or decade earlier. Everyone's actions would be different, like the Kents might not have even seen Lionel and taken Lex to the hospital with Clark naked in a blanket. The ripple effect would have changed all of the timing of events from the day of the shower to the time shown to us.

It's physics. Lex's car crashing into the side of the bridge probably wouldn't have plowed through the side of the wall like it did had he not ran into Clark. It would've just been totalled and Lex would've been lucky to walk away. He probably would've required some medical attention, but people have survied worse in Smallville. But since he hit Clark, it's actually Clark's body that smashed the wall.

Remember in 'Descent' at the beginning, the scene between Lex and Lionel we learnt that Lionel was in smallville because of traveller not because of Lex. Therefore if Brainiac succedded killing Clark on Krypton in the past, messages of the traveller would have not been sent and Lionel wouldn't be with Lex in Smallville.

^But we don't know if those messages came from Clark's ship or sent by another means. So they could have given a message of a traveler and only had Kara show up.

I don't think they mention when Kara was found in the Dam. Maybe it wasn't long ago.

I always thouth that the first meteor-shower occured because the meteors were dragged along with Clark's ship?
So, if there is no ship, there should be no reason for Kryptonite being on Earth!
President Lex should have his hair!!!

The meteors would have come along anyway with Kara's ship.
That's why Lionel would have taken his son to Smallville anyway, believing the Traveler still would have been coming.
They addressed this when I believe it was Lex who said that Lionel died protecting Kara's secret.

Ok. so Lex lives...
But what about Lana? When she left to see Whitney off at the bus station, she was driving back and wound up in the tornado and CK saved her. Can anyone answer that?
