I can't wait for this either. I think he's done a great job in the past. This will probably be a big ep since it is #150... I guess I'll post my opinion later

For TPTB to put the 150th Episode in Tom Wellings hands, is really a testament to his Directing skills. They must have alot of confidence in him. I have no doubt Tom is up to the Challenge.:D

I agree. Tom does a great job directing when he gets a chance to get behind the camera.
The downside is that he makes the other directors this season look bad by comparison I think. The pacing of this episode was pretty good. There was character development, emotion, action, etc.. The only part that seemed forced was the transition to Krypton but that was a time thing and well I'm sure they didn't have the budget to show the actual travel so it's understandable.
I really enjoyed the Clois in this episode. More and more they've been getting better as the seasons go on. What makes Clois works is when you don't show Chlark because that's the better pairing but Lois is becoming more of the Lois she should be. They have been showing the strong Lois and the kind and emotional Lois. For a while there they were only showing more of the strong. You need that balance since Lois's personality seems so strong at times. They just need to show them together more though. I'm hoping next season Clark will finally take up the reporter career.

Tom did a fantastic job directing. He may want to direct full time in the future but I would miss him in front of the camera. I'm looking forward to the next episode he directs for the 8th season. Congratulations Tom on an awesome episode!

i cant say enough about his good directing .. he actually saved the season with this epi...yes he makes some of the other directors look bad but he actually made everyone excited again about sv and looking foward to the finale and season 8. There was continuity , scenes were shot just write, great camera angles, great timing, and stay true to the SUpes Mythos which has been lacking in SV thus far. What a great way to pay homeage to the whole mythological Supes and doing this in the 150th epi. Couldn't ask for more.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks he makes the other directors look bad. I hope this feeling gets across to the powers that be that they need to take the directors into a room and give them a serious talking to.
This should have been an intense and dramatic season but it's all over the place.

I was particularly impressed by the performance he got out of LV, whose acting has been one of the main weaknesses of the season for me. But today, Kara was spot on, and I think Tom should get some credit for that.
I think he did a great job. All the characters really sprang to life and it was just an all around scene-to-scene interesting episode with some really nice angles.
And I agree....Tom really did bring Kara to a new level and got LV to really step up to the plate. The Kara character never seemed a good fit and kinda just thrown in there - but this episode it felt like she was a perm cast member.

It seems that Tom Welling gets better and more ambitious each time.
Fragile was really heart felt and touching.
Hydro was full of comedy and action.
Apocalypse was really mythos heavy, more serious, still full of action but... there was more riding on it. I don't think expectations were necessarily very high for Fragile and Hydro.
He's done a fantastic job once again.

^^ I completely agree with you. I also think the the powers that be are starting to trust Welling a lot more. There was a positive response to his previous directing efforts, and honestly who on the show knows Clark Kent better than anyone else? He was a fantastic director, the other times, and he delivered again. I am very proud to call myself a Tom Welling fan. :D

This has definitely become one of my most favorite SV episodes! Tom is a good actor, but I think he should try directing for a career instead! I mean, FINALLY, Clark was actually being....well, Clark, and not some whiner (though that whole squabble in the beginning that the world is better off without him). And to think, I almost boycotted Smallville after watching Sleeper!

What a quagmire. Someone as good-looking as TW should never be behind a camera, but he did so well directing this episode.
Is it a coincidence that the three episodes he has directed have been ones with a lot of Clark-Lois interaction and CK showing Superman-like character traits. I loved when he said "I never give up" with so much conviction.
It's as if the only way to protect this character is for the actor himself to direct everything. I hope I am wrong and this is a taste of what season 8 is going to be all season long.

This may be what he will focus on when Smallville is over. This episode was very well balanced, and had all the elements that make a great one. For once all the characters seemed in sync, and playing out their parts as they should in all the eps. I even liked Jimmy, and I'm not a big fan of that character!

This episode was excellent. I haven't seen such a powerful episode in every way for a long time. His directing ability has incredibly increased. Also I gotta say writes did an amazing job with this episode. To be honest this episode is the closest episode to the whole superman stuff. Clark's black framed glasses, his flirt with lois was really cool :)

I agree that Tom did an amazing job. It semed like everyone was at their best. You can tell Tom wants Clark to be stronger and it showed. I hope all of the people who complain about his character see it is not Toms choice to act weak. He also gets good reactions from his actors. I think he likes to throw in all those little facial reactions that help with a scene. I loved when Lois was looking at him as if he needed something else to blend in. The light fun moments were just as good as the dark sinister ones. The whole tone of the show was great.
I hope he gets to direct more next year, but never, never stop being in front of the camera. I would love to see Tom in a romantic comedy!

I totally agree with you :D especially with what you've said about "those little facial reactions". These are exactly what I've been missing for a while now, concerning Tom's acting, that and his cute and genuine smile. He used those a lot in the earlier seasons but in this season there wasn't any till this episode.
It's obvious that he enjoyed his work for this episode much more than he did lately, actually since at least the beginning of this season.

TW did an excellent job. Wow!! He blew me away. It's amazing that he gets the same type of episode written that all the other directors get and turns it into a fun and memorable episode. I thought with him directing it would be Clark-lite, but it wasn't or at least it didn't feel that way. Kudos to Tom Welling on a great job.

Well hopefully he has...I mean he had to renegotiate to be in season 8 so maybe he got what he wanted "more say as to what his character does" and rememeber Al & MIles are gone for season 8. I forsee good things coming

Great job Tom!!
It's his third, first in "Fragile", second in "Hydro" and third now in "Apocalypse".
He's got so much talent, both as an actor and director, but I do hope, he'll go on acting in first place, because it would be a "waste" to not let him be in front of the camera. I would very much miss to see him!

I think Tom did a (sorry, can't resist!) SUPER job directing this episode. Previously I had loved his work on Fragile, not so much on Hydro but this one was amazing. He's really grown (as an actor too) and this episode was ambitious for sure.
He's definitely one of the best directors in the Smallville 'stable'. And I hope that when Smallville does end that he gets to direct the Season Finale. (How cool would that be?!)

How ironic you sure say that. In Smallville Magazine 13,Tom himself states that he would like to direct the series finale. Quote; I wanted to direct a season finale. I actually wanted the series finale, but they didn't buy that one. But who knows. I figure if everyone in the world watches my episode, then I might have a shot. End Quote.

I remember Tom talking about how he wanted to direct a Season finale (I believe that was last year, Season 6, when he said that) but I didn't know he wanted the series finale. I'm sorry that they wouldn't give it to him. I guess the 150th episode will have to be enough. I still think it would be a great 'gimmick' to have Superman direct the series ender.
Think of the mileage you can get out of that, CW!
Thanks for the info txluvstom, and welcome to the board!
