Discuss the ratings for "Apocalypse." :)

Sleeper was a stinker and may have been a viewer turn off but this episode was featured in TVGuide, it's the 150th episode, TW is directing, promo for it was GOOD and more people are probably aware now that Smallville has some more episodes left for this season SO there's a good chance it will increase over last week's.

My prediction, around 4 million viewers

Though I hope it's higher. :D

Smallville DESERVES 50 MILLION !!!!!!!
although that'll never happen with any t.v show.......ever.
but smallville deserves it, I hope it gets above 4 million
the seasons started off at 5 and all in high 4's and very low 5's.
those stupid breaks are what did it !!!!!!

I'm hoping all the Behind the Scenes promos of Tom Directing, that TVGN did, will help raise the ratings. The pic in the TV guide, of Clark and Lois can't hurt, either. And come on, it is the 150th Episode! How many shows get one of those! I'm hoping over 4 mil.

*-final numbers

It continues to creep upwards. I was worried that after last week, the numbers would drop. Any upward movement is positive and hopefully, the numbers will be better when the final figures come in.

Apocalypse was a really good episode - 150th and one of the best.

I can't find the Finals, maybe tomorrow:\

I know I rewatched Apocalypse today, I'm sure the Final will go up!

I saw things I missed the first time! What an Epic episode!!!

Obviously the terribleness that was 'Sleeper' didn't effect the viewings.

I don't know if anybody realised this, but SV actually improved from the previous year.

As long as the final numbers hold steady, "Apocalypse" beat the year ago (May 3, 2007) episode ("Noir") by 50,000 viewers (3.64 vs. 3.59). I think that's something positive to look at.

And according to TFC, SV improved by over 9% in households from the first half hour to the second, and by a double digit % in the A18-49 demo.

Still no Finals, but I found this also:

"Smallville remains strong for the CW. It actually picked up steam in the second half hour." ~ TVByTheNumbers

With the exodus of the main Actors, do you think the CW will order less Season 8 episodes?
I'm feeling unsettled with the latest news of MR not returning and my insecurities are showing:\

Back when the wb left and the cw took over the cw was not available in my area. I cancelled my cable that I had for 20 years and found a satillite network that would offer the cw so I could watch smallville. I still had to pay extra for the channel which was well worth it. I LOVE SMALLVILLE. I believe the ratings would go way up now if the cw channel was offered in more areas. I know a lot of people who watched it on cable here who don,t get to watch it anymore but buy the season DVD,s.

I'm still holding out hope that S8 will be 23 episodes long or that the series finale is two-hours, but with the CW's financial woes I'm not too sure.

I'm sad that MR is leaving too, but TBH, Lex's journey in SV has pretty much been completed.

----- Added 6 Minutes later -----

That said, it would be great if he could make a guest appearance or two next season.

And with the introduction of Doomsday and a new villainess next season, I'm excited to see how that goes. And since it's the last season, maybe we can see Clark fly, more Clois, the return of Perry White, etc. I think S8 has a lot of potential. We'll just have to hope it lives up to that potential. :)

I had forgotten about this, but something else that may have hurt ratings is that Iron Man opened to some theatres on Thursday. I'm sure there's a lot of shared audience there.

There were some Sports on also. And Smallville has a Worldwide fan base that isn't even counted. Seems like the Neilsen Ratings are outdated.

Finals are still eluding me :\

I personally don't understand how .

Me either. First, how can TPTB tell with any certainity about those kinds of numbers? Second, how can we be sure numbers aren't tweaked to increase ad revenues in specific areas? Third, who/how chooses which homes monitors will be in to provide statistical info with which to calculate viewership? I, have never known anyone or anyone who knows anyone who had had their tv viewing habits monitored. I would think it might be easy to skew the data. An easy way to do that, I would think, is to put the viewing monitors in specific populations. And lastly, many of the people, I know, who used to watch AI have stopped because they are bored with it, or feel the voting is crazy,

it doesn't surprise me more people watch American Idol, american people are suckers for that type of show where people can so called realize their dreams and of course they like to feel they are part of the outcome and vote for who looks better, they even treat their elections like that, who looks like they could do a better job.

I think there have been many episodes where the entertainment was so good that it was a shame to have been seen by so few viewers. There have been exceptions, I grant that.

Not as good as I hoped but a pretty darn good jump from the previous week. Hopefully, the momentum will continue.

Dare I suggest that perhaps the iconic Clois shots being used to advertise this eppy had a positive effect?

1. I'm not sure I understand the question. 2. Nielsen numbers are not "tweaked". They measure the exact number of viewers with Nielsen boxes that are watching (or have their TV tuned to a specific channel). Then those numbers are used to estimate "actual" viewers. Based on statistics, about 5000 homes have Nielsen boxes, which is "equivalent" to about 100 million people. 3. They are chosen at random, but must meet certain requirements and fit into certain categories (age, gender, salary, race, etc...).

I will never understand why fans care about the ratings. Smallville is already renewed for it's last season. The only one who should care is the network. Based on the Nielsen numbers, they charge more or less money to advertisers. 3 million viewers, 4 million, 5 million....doesn't really matter. And DVR numbers mean even less, because advertisers don't care about people who fast forward through their commmercials.

Dor el

I was just thinking that if the Nielson boxes are truly randomly selected versus being selected for certain demographics, it could impact the validity of the information. Are the boxes placed nationwide or or they located in population heavy cities? I truly don't know. I'm just saying, I've never met one of the chosen "5000" nor have I ever talked to an individual who knew someone in that group. But, considering the population of the US and how relatively few boxes are in play, that's not that unusual. It's kind of like these political polls. Depending on where and of whom you ask the survey questions, the researcher can pretty much get the answers he may be looking for. I just find it difficult to believe that a study group of 5000 among millions of viewers would give an accurate picture of the viewing habits overall. But, I am not a statistician, even though I have conducted experimental research in college and was taught that a larger study population is more likely to yield results more representative of the general population.

But, you are right, SV is renewed for season 8 even though we can't be sure it won't get canceled before the season begins or shortly after it begins. LnC was renewed for another season and then was abruptly canceled prior to the beginning of the season. At least that's what I have read.
