Did anyone catch the reference they made to Harry Potter in this episode? I just thought it was funny and as far as I know they never made a Potter reference before, or have they?

I caught it. It seemed a little forced though, because it didn't make sense.

I can't remember the exact line at the moment, but it mentions Rita Skeeter. It had to do with the magical appearing page.

Yeah. When Clark shows Chloë the page in Swann's journal that wasn't there before Chloë says something like "I can't imagine that the page just Rita Skeetered itself into Swann's journal". This refers to the 'journalist' Rita Skeeter in the Harry Potter books who uses magic quills that can write by themselves.

I found it a funny and unexpected line.

quite unexpected, but it totally fit. Yay for Harry Potter references!

Yeah that was awesome! I repeated the scene various times to confirm she said "Rita Skeeter"! Because when she first said it I was like "Did she said Rita Skeeter?" and by what it was happening in the secne I thought it must fit, and I repeated it, and there it was! It was time to make a Harry Potter reference on Smallville YAY!

but it doesn't fit. Rita's quill wrote with her knowledge. She knew it was happening, and no one was surprised by her writing, they just wondered where she was getting all that accurate, though drastically skewed, private information.

A Rita skeeter reference would have been more accurate in "Hydro."

Yeah I know I'm sad too. I just got done re-reading OotP again today. I would have thought that the one thing I would have picked up on would have been a Harry Potter reference.....

I think the reference was that Rita Skeeter is a magical journalist and the page magically appeared. I can see the confusion, though. I loved the reference! Yay for Harry Potter!

Well I just rewatched the episode, and she does say it kinda fast, and with this not being my favorite episode I can see why maybe I didn't hear it......:\

i also liked the Linkin Park reference in Season 3 where Clark recieves the phone call from the furture from Lana where Adam shoots her. Chloe "how did you hear that?" Clark "I guess I've missed too many Linkin Park concerts"

thats WAAAAAAAAAY forcing it though. The reference just doesn't fit. If they really wanted a Harry Potter reference, it would have made more sense for her to say "I can't imagine that the page just Tom Riddled itself into Swann's journal," refering to Voldemort's journal from "chamber of secrets."

I've read Harry Potter, I didn't catch it the first time around though, I was sort of zoned out and she said it too fast.

i agree. i can see both sides, but the tom riddle one would probably make more sense!

I laughed so hard I almost hurt myself. LOL!

I agree that a Chamber of Secrets reference would be more appropriate but... just as silly.

Oh, that would have been a better reference indeed. Hey maybe Swann's journal is a horcrux too, created by Jor-El when he was here on earth. When Swann started using the journal, the horcrux influenced him to seek contact with Clark. Oh and maybe the stones in Season 4 were horcruxes too, since one of them enabled Jor-El to take over Lionels body and all three of them combined created the fortress where Jor-El is also present. What if that is Jor-El's master plan? To get Clark to collect all of his horcruxes and unite them in one place so that he can be all powerful again and take over the world.

Hmm, come to think of it, maybe not :p
