View Full Version : Maybe Clark being a moron has its uses....

How many times have we heard people on this forum say, "I'm convinced, this Clark Kent could never be Supermen", etc, etc, etc, etc...
Even as viewers, we are being disillusioned that this Clark Kent is so unsupermanly we can't make the connection between the two. And we are the ones who know his destiny. Imagine if we didn't know his destiny, we would all be thinking "who is this whining idiot".
SO... what if this is the reason that Lois and Jimmy cannot make the connection. Sure they'l all be slightly suspicious about some of his older habbits, like cave hiding, being in places at unexpected times, seemingly being able to dissapear from rooms and most unexplainably why Lana and Chloe are infatuated with him, but hey, they only have that to go on.
As viewers we know exactly what he is going to become, and some of us cannot figure out how the hell Clark Kent is Superman.
So i am putting forward the idea that the writers are not idiots, and that the joke has been on us the whole time.
All we need to happen now is for Lex to see how pathetic Clark is and even he will drop the idea that Clark is special or has anything to with the traveller.
On top of this, i think that Clark maybe mildly schizophrenic, has anyone thought about the mental consequenses of leading a life that is a lie??
It can do strange things to a mind, particularly young minds and he has had alot to deal with from a relativly young age. I would bet money on Clark Kent developing a bit of a dual personality (i'm convinsing myself of this now).
It would also explain why he has said some very contradictory things.

Well Clark has had a long history of mental problems throughout smallville, taking all those hits, being infected by various types of kryptonite, the mind altering phantom, Jor-El posessing him, all the amnisia. Kal-El, redk Clark swapping bodys with old evil Lionel; you name it, the poor guy has had alot of crap happen to him.
With all the previous mental health issues he has had; maybe we are seeing the consequences of this?

TheANIMAL, I actually agree with you there and give Clark a lot more leeway than others seem to. They've made the history for this version of Clark much, much darker, even tying him into the death of the man he loved the most, his father Jonathan. They turned Jor-El from the friendly AI into something Clark fears. THey've had countless people die to protect Clark and then him feel guilty about it. And, of course, his best friends a meteor freak and his girlfriend grew up an orphan as a result of his ship landing. I agree, there's bound to be delay problems there :)

i like to think it's bad writing. The people who do write this show would probably been better off working for Dawson's Creek or the OC
Scifi and Teenage Angst Dramas don't mix, beyond that Teenage Angst Dramas usually have 2-3 Male friends and 2-3 Female friends to play off of eachother. I guess while you can consider Lex a Male he isn't part of the main "Click", in Smallville Clark is the Main Character so anybody elses relationship doesn't matter unless it affects him(Lexana) so it's shuffled off as a secondary story without any real story development(Chlimmey, Lollie).
They could of told a much better story with Clark going to College(which would have lined up perfect with the end of season 8), but Clana was by far more important for the writers so they wasted there time with that storyline for almost 3 season(5-7) when it should have ended in season 5(give KK her pink slip, nice knowing you, hello Lori Lemaris).

^^He he, its the best i could come up with, now i just need to think through the details how Clark could make himself look like a moron infront of Lex, shouldn't be hard.
AlwaysRight: That would have been more logical way to conduct smallville, and certainly it would have been easier for the fans, but ultimately it wouldn't explain the reason Clark would become such a reckless saviour for the world; ready to throw his life away if he needs to for the greater cause, it wouldn't explain why Superman could live with himself so easily leading a dual life.
Superman values human life above his own. In smallville this is taken a step futher that Clark thinks of himself as less than human, and that being Kryptonian is worse than being human, he always wanted to be human, but problems associated with being kryptonian have made it impossible to lead a human life.
I think this is a step too far, but it would be understandable for a younger, less confident Clark Kent, the sort we are seeing now, raised to take responsibility for his actions to think this way. Hopefully he will grow to stop beating himself up about himself, and the more supermanly half of him will be a bit more pro-active, and perhaps less infatuated with Lana.
LexLuv180 i'm glad you agree!

I don't know. They say Spiderman movies are more popular than Superman now of days because it's easier to relate to the disturbed young hero with female problems. It's a common enough theme with superheroes and monsters (like the old ones with Universal always wanting the woman/acceptance they couldn't have). It's not a new twist and it's one that works if done right.

How Clark transitions into his identity as Superman on Smallville remains to be seen, but you bring up a strong point - dual identities can have a harsh affect on people! Batman was born "Bruce Wayne", but it got to the point for him that he considers himself Batman for real & Bruce is just his costume. Originally Superman was the "real" character & Clark was just a disguise, but on the "Lois & Clark" TV series & the more recent comics they seem to be going more with Clark being the real person, & he takes on the Superman identity so he can save the world but still be Clark. I like this way better, because it gives respect to the country boy/nerd! I don't know which direction they'll go with Smallville, because Clark isn't really very nerdy, although for some reason Lois has always viewed him as such; & he doesn't even wear flannel shirts anymore!
They should introduce Lori Lemaris next season since Lana won't be around, & it's still too early for him to hook up with Lois. They could title that episode "Mermaid".

Exactly, why would he gave himself all the trouble to fool 2 or 3 people in Smallville .What about the people who work at DP who see him enter at superspeed to see Chloe all the time?Come on,if Chloe sees him that means everybody can. No,it's only bad writting nothing more.I guess we want to make excuses for Clark for being such a wuss but, sadly,it's who he really is.
