Might get more viewers since Descent was a really good episode and that there's more awareness that Smallville has a few episodes left this season. Also the trailer shown at the end of Lex finding the FOS (though that's in Arctic but a person not tuned into spoilers may not know that). However Sleeper isn't that appealing of an episode (watched it tonight, it was alright but nothing special) so it could be lower. Btw the Apocalypse trailer looks awesome! CLARK WITH GLASSES! :p

there is no way i think sleeper will get more than 3.6 million viewers, i got a bad feeling about this chlimmy episode.

The commercials promoted Sleeper as "Lex finds the FoS", not "Chimmy Spy Antics." Unless you knew the spoilers or really check out the episode, there was no wat to know Lex and Clark would have such smal roles. I think it will get a nice boost from Descent, which was a really strong episode.
OTOH, I think Apocalypse, following this and getting none of the Big Special Event promotion of episodes like Reckoning, Lexmas or Promise, could take a hit. And not a small one.

Sadly I think this episode won't make it to the 3.8 million, but I think it'll get at least 3.6 million, I hope "Apocalypse" can finally make it to 4 million.

I think it could go either way. The episode wasn't great, but it had a good one leading into it.

It will be a shame if ratings rise on this stinker. It is also a real shame if next week's episode falls because of this episode.

ok im sorry but you chose for this episode to be bad, I enjoyed it alot, I liked the fact it was a break from the usual stress and drama and was just fun.
there wasnt much I would change at would, It was just so relaxing and enjoyable to watch. BY no means was it horrible or boring, thats the one thing I found that it gave me.............ENTERTAINMENT.

there wasn't much in this episode I liked...very very boring.....complete filler episode.....
Clark was only in 4 scenes....Lex was only in 3 scenes....you could actually skip all except the last 5 minutes and you'd get all the information you needed in that final scene...

Maybe next week episode will fare better. I think the ratings will be higher if the CW or the creators knew how to promote their show better. Half of the time, SV is not even airing in certain places. The CW and the makers of sv does a lame job of promoting their show.
So its up to the fans, i do my part, but for season 8, i plan to do more of part :)

"Sleeper" was 39 minutes long, Desent" was 41, "Veritas" was 39, "Traveler" was 41.
So Season seven adveraged about 40 minutes each.
----- Added 4 Minutes later -----
Since when has this been happening?
I am not sure about Season 3, but season four's "Crusade" was 44 minutes, and "Gone" was just 43.

yeah the usual average is supposed to be a little over 40 mins, so like 43/44,
but now theyre shorter, just a couple a minutes.
actually to think, if they made veritas just a little longer, then they could of put some ACTUA flying lessons for clark, but failed would have been fun

I noticed that the episodes are becomming shorter as well. So I did some calculations:
Episode lengths:
http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/738/episodesce3.th.png (http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/738/episodesce3.png)
Average episode length per season (including credits):
Season 1: 44:02
Season 2: 43:09
Season 3: 42:58
Season 4: 42:24
Season 5: ?
Season 6: 41:43
Season 7: 40:47
OK so season 5 data is missing but if you are wondering about the show getting shorter, here is some data.

I think that if you look at the data and the trend, this season was a revival that got cut short by the strike. Smallville was getting close to a million more viewers per ep early on than right now.
As for show length, I think they are limited by the FCC or someone to a MAX of 42 minutes. The next few eps will probably be 39 or maybe even shorter.

Descent was the first episode back after a break - those always take a hit in the ratings. The ratings usually go up for the rest of the new episodes. Well, except after Hero, but that was a bad episode.

I hope next week's episode does better. It looks really good.

What I hope is this stinker of an episode doesn't impact on the rest of the season. It's been a pretty tremendous season thus far, IMHO, and if people tuned in to this episode after abandoning SV for a while based on hearing others rave about Descent, they may be scratching their heads wondering what all the hype was about.

Since when has this been happening?
It's been happening to all shows now being aired. I watch series from the 90s on DVD and notice there's 46 minutes. We are getting longer commericals. I just stared season 3 of The Pretender and noticed about a minute has been shaved off the episodes! Though they are still a lot longer than current shows airing. It's interesting because The Pretender uses their time to wrap some stuff up in the last few minutes. Unlike the trend of today where sometimes an episode feels rushed at the end.

I hope the fact that Sleeper wasn't that well liked by some doesn't effect the Apocalypse ratings.

Wow. Smallville lost about a million viewers between Blue and Gemini. What happened? Was it because of the Writer's strike and the scheduling of so many repeats in between new episodes? I hope they come back for Apocolypse-Quest-Artic.

It's been happening to all shows now being aired. I watch series from the 90s on DVD and notice there's 46 minutes. We are getting longer commericals.
I've noticed that too. Even Buffy, which started in '97 usually ran about 44-45 minutes. Now, some shows don't even hit 40 all the time. :(
