Or is it just the main characters of the show?
Ok, let's start: Chloe. Hiding the damn key in her desk?? Whatever happened to hiding keys in one's cleavage? Jimmy. Texting valuable and dangerous inofrmation? What the hell? You never text that kind of info. You either call, or speak in person about it. Clark. After helping Chloe, she told him someone hit her. Why not do a quick X-ray of the building? Or listen for another heartbeat before starting to ramble on about the gratest seecret there is?

It made the episode more interesting. Also remember, this is a T.V. show; you're not supposed to think too deeply. I've made my head spin trying to figure out things like this in just about every form of T.V. media
Yeah, I thought the same thing Jimmy shouldn't have texted Chloe the big scoop - but Jimmy isn't the brightest flashbulb in the camera. Clark could have used his X-Ray vision to scan the Isis building but he used his heat vision to warm up Lois & Jimmy and seems to use only power on screen per episode. I guess he can't be "super" all of the time. But I can't blame Chloe, she was just so scared of Lex's super-creepiness she forgot how to hide things. ;)

The insults aren't necessary, but aside from that, I agree with you. The first thing I thought when Chloe saw Lex coming was that she would hide the key on her person, somewhere. I thought the exact same thing as you when Jimmy texted that info to Chloe. That's the kind of thing where you say to the person (not their voicemail), "We have to talk. No, not over the phone." And Clark should definitely have scanned the area before spilling the beans on his secret. Hell, he should ALWAYS scan the area before talking about his secret. Why not? It would take him two seconds or less.
All in all, it was a top notch episode, but there were still those few flaws to keep it from being perfect. As usual, those contrivances are the result of nothing more than laziness on the part of the writers. Rather than spend the time to think up better explanations for how Lex gets the key, for how his henchwoman finds out about the picture, and for how she finds out about Clark, they skimp out and give us these lame-o excuses which just don't make sense.

Not true. Just because most TV writers are lazy does not mean that is what you should expect TV to strive towards. There has been some TV which is consistently coherent, clear, and intelligent. It is possible to put together riveting tales with good storytelling on a TV budget and timeframe. Is it easy? Hell no, I'm sure. Is it possible though? Yes. I can still enjoy a show which is not perfect, but I don't excuse its imperfections on the basis of the fact that most other shows aren't perfect either.

When Chloe had the key and needed to hide it, she also was afraid about the paper with the Kryptonian letter on it, so she made hiding that her FIRST priority. She didn't know anything about the key and she didn't want Lex to find out about the symbol on the paper, so I guess she rushed to get that out of the way before clearing out anything else.
As for Jimmy, like FotW said, Jimmy's not that smart. :\ But he was really excited about the discovery he made and he wanted to get the information to Chloe as soon as possible. Maybe he wanted to tell her what she was in for before she got there, so she could be excited too. :o
Clark hasn't been worried about doing other things before he starts talking about his secret with others. :\ Earlier in the episode, he was about to engage in a full conversation with Lionel about the kryptonite cage and what not AT the scene of the crime....

Maybe you should direct your disappointment at the writers. I'm sure there are many times the actor say WTF? and they are told to just say it like it's written :p
Plus since Chloe had no idea where the key came from why would she think that Lex would be looking for it and open her drawer. Like the poster above said the first priority was to get rid of the paper it came in

I'd be pretty pissed if my boss went through my desk looking for a personal item. I don't think it's too much to ask to accept that. Especially since she was busy getting rid of the paper covering it.
On the other hand, I'd have really liked to see Lex frisk Chloe for the key:D

Here's what I don't get. You discover that you have a photograph of the weathiest man in Metropolis getting murdered. Would you not IMMEDIATELY make as many backups of that photo as possible? Keep it on the smart card, move it to your hard drive, burn a CD, put it on a jump drive, upload it to to your MySpace account....who cares where -- just BACK IT UP MULTIPLE TIMES, man!!
And, as I don't think it was smart for Jimmy to send that text to Chloe -- we have to remember that Jimmy and Lois don't have the same kind of dirt on Lex that Clark, Chloe and we the viewers do. I'm sure if he had the slightest inclination that Lex was the murderer that he certainly wouldn't have uploaded the pic across the network of the newspaper Lex owns or sent a text message to Chloe while even standing in the building.
We can certainly say one thing for sure, I'll bet he learns his lesson about backing things up and keeping the valuable information for in-person meetings.

It is Smallville. Common sense does not apply.
