did anyone else notice at the very last moment of the episode, when Clark was at Lionel's funeral, and after lex had left the scene, how the sunlight directly shined upon clark; which I believe is more of a foreshadowing between Clark and Lex and how clark represents the light of the world and how lex represents the darkness, something similar to what Patricia said to clark at the farm.

Yes; they also did that in the Kent Farm change-of-venue shot and during the loft scene. Very nice.

I keep wondering what the heck that was. It was on the other side, and not directly on Clark. Was it some sign from Lionel since it was right after Clark stood up by the grave? I just don't know.

It almost seems like the "light" switching on for Clark. He seems to finally be manning up, and he knows what he has to do now. A very touching moment.

I noticed it and I thought it was a nice touch, very beautiful.

I think Lionel got the redemption he was hoping for. OUCH that gave me a cavity. But I love it! :D

yeah...definitely a beautiful scene there. Anyone notice at the beginning of the episode the look on Lionel's face when he was falling? He was kind of grinning...like he knew he would be a martyr for Clark. This was an amazing episode.

I know...*sniff sniff* again. I so love how they changed Lionel's character. He was earlier obsessed with Clark with negative intentions...but at the end he became like a worshipper of him.

Yes, I did notice it was like poetic end.

The sun has definitely become a symbol for Clark: of his power and goodness. About half of the episode Perry was about Clark and the sun, then the connection wasn't even referred to until the one moment seasons later in Nemesis, when Clark is lying down and looks up toward the sun as it gives him energy. But this season it is all over the place, and has certainly become a recurring element. I really love that it is used to represent him...

speaking of lionel's death, I find it interesting about the pose his body was in right before he died, somewhat of a "crucifix" position. Hmm, I wonder if they were going for a religious allusion as well for that scene.

Maybe Clark forgave Lionel in that moment and did his soul good.

I think that you're right Ginnyfan...they had Clark acknowledge Lionel by sprinkling the dirt over his grave, which was when the sun appeared. It showed how Clark cast warmth and light on the sad and nondescript place where Lionel now rests.

I actually feel like it was Clark forgiving Lionel...and letting it go...and him regaining his strength. The way he and Lex were looking at eachother, it's obvious the battle is about to begin. So maybe showing the sun on him his the writers way of saying "save up your strength clark...you're going to need it for whats about to come."

Forgive me if I'm wrong but were'nt his eyes flashing or something as he was falling. Like maybe he was seeing something from Jor-el or something?
Thats how I took it anyways I need to rewatch to be sure though

I think the sunlight at the end of the episode was just symbolic of the 7 year relationship between Clark and Lionel finally reaching it's resolution, where Clark makes his peace with Lionel, even if it is in death.

i think it was the light at the end of the tunnel....a symbol that clark knows lionel died to save him and that his death was not in vein bc clark is going to accept his destiny and justice will be served

----- Added 1 Minutes later -----

plus clark ultimately gets his strength from the sun ...so it was proving that he will remain strong as well that he is the hero of the story and he must continue

Yeah, it was so meaningful! IMO, it could have lasted a few seconds longer, it was a little too short, like a glimpse only - but wonderfully made.

I'm glad someone else mentioned this because I swore I saw this too. Something was definitely going on with his eyes.

it could have ben Jor-El taking off and leaving him to die on his own

Nothing was going on with his eyes. If you watch closely in Lionel's eyes as he falls, it's just Lex standing in the window as he plummets to the ground. The flashing was supposed to be the city lights bouncing off of the windows of the buildings around him.

Oh. The flashing makes sense. I wish it would have been something more phenomenal though.

Jor-El already left Lionel back when Zod broke out of the fortress, their connection was severed then.

no, apparently Lionel lied about him losing his connection with Jor el because at the end of the episode he carried on writing in kryptonian to show that he still has the connection with Jor el.
