I am sure that Lex was named "Alexander" after Alexander the Great (given his family and their dedication to ancient rulers and power generally.
Tonight Lex murdered his Alexander self. In doing so, has he symbolically lost all chance to be truly great?
Or, to put it another way, he thinks his good, compassionate side only makes him weak. But what if that side would have actually made him strong enough to do real good in the world, to rule with compassion and wisdom?
In reaching for ultimate power and control, has Lex in fact doomed himself to failure?
