In case someone needs to get locked inside of it?

<!-- / message -->Pretty much. In an episode where Clark mentions Lionel Luthor as a father figure, the walk-in freezer is far from the biggest WTF moment of the week.

Perhaps he said that because of GUILT???

Just a thought.

And how is having a freezer in the Daily Planet far-fetched? Where Chloe, Lois and Jimmy work, which is the basement, they must have some kind of kitchen down there because we have seen Chloe walk into the area with food and what not, so of course there would be one; there usually is a kitchen in a big working area, like GMC, Berge Ford, so why not at a newspaper? Lol.

Ok that being a humongous building it must have at least one cafeteria and cafeterias sometimes they do have walk in freezers! Now does that answer your question?

IamProdigy
04-17-2008, 07:08 PM
People should stop complaining like this....

when they work into a office building/facility, you will find out that many places have kitchens and some will even have fridges/freezers.

Ardiem3
04-17-2008, 07:09 PM
I think they made it obvious in the episode, that it was a kitchen, and where do you think they keep the frozen food at?

It is the glory of Smallville, the writters can just put whatever illogical nonsense in the show and have it accepted as logical. So just accept it! Haha

Well didnt jimmy say something jokely when the gina gal was bringing them down there about food so it was probably a caferita freezer or second reason a place were they keep old files, films, photos in cold storage were they can last longer.

Ilovebeinglost
04-17-2008, 08:07 PM
it's a huge building so maybe there's a cafeteria for all those rooms that hold all those people that work there.

It's not that far-fetched that the DP may have had it's own cafeteria, back in the day, such a large operation would have had their own cafeteria/kitchen for the employees that worked there.

Nowadays, Lois and Jimmy are lucky to have reporting jobs, and the cafeteria probably would have been phased out by budget cuts at the paper.

Why is there a walk-in freezer in the Daily Planet?

i was thinking the same thing. there is no reason for a freezer at the newspaper, but i still loved the episode.
they needed a typical trap, it was the only bad part for me.

I was wondering about that, as I wasn't aware that newspapers have their won cafeterias. Although, I have worked on places where they have their own, including chefs (or what passes on such lol) on staff.

That was really out of left field. Can you imagine what the writers were discussing for that?

Writer1: Well, I want a cool effect where Clark unfreezes Jimmy and Lois.
Writer2: That would be awesome, kind of a homage to Lois and Clark when Clark did that to Lois.
Writer1: Yeah, I bet the mythos fans will catch up on that and give us kudos.
Writer2: Totally.
Writer1: Yeah, totally. Pass the blunt.
Writer2: So, how are we gonna freeze them?
Writer1: Big giant freezer in the basement.
Writer2: Does that make sense?
Writer1: Makes sense to me. Here, you wanna hit the rest of this?
Writer2: Mmmm. Good ****. *caugh caugh*
Writer1: So, they need to be at the Daily Planet... so let's just put them in a big walk-in freezer.
Writer2: Ah... the old "lock them in the freezer scenario". Okay, what the hell. There could be a big freezer at a newspaper, righ?
Writer1: Yeah, man. That's where they keep all the little bite size pizzas for late night writing sessions. You know.
Writer2: Yeah...little bite size pizzas...
Writer1: Yeah...pizza...

Uhhh, I'm assuming it's the freezer to the cafeteria for the Daily Planet. My office looks a lot like the Daily Planet building, probably has as many employees too, and our cafeteria has a freezer that looks exactly like that.

I work at a postcard company and we have a place to put frozen foods. It's not too far of a stretch to think that the Daily Planet had the same. Just thank HR ;)

I just thought it was funny that the freezer seemed to be the size of a grocery store's entire back room I know the daily planet is a huge newspaper but dang someone eats alot.

its where they stash the dead bodies, when there are no headlines, they create homicides and stash the victims in the freezer. Just kidding, but it is a good point, why is there a freezer?, lol!!

It's weird, I didn't think it odd at all that there's a walk-in freezer at the DP. What irked me every time I saw it was that there wasn't a handle on the inside like any other walk-in freezer to prevent that kind of situation.

I agree. While I'm sure large corporations like a newspaper might have a cafeteria, and yeah, a walk-in freezer, I don't think it should be the size of Detroit!

Somehow, I think that this is how many (or at least some) of the Smallville episodes are actually written.

How can you even question the writers who thought up the giant DP freezer when these are the same people who thought it was logical to have Lex medivac'd from Detroit to Smallville in order to treat a GUN SHOT WOUND?

You know, what annoyed me most about that is they could have fixed it by adding one line to the script: "The best neurosurgeon in the world is in San Francisco. We're coming from Detroit, and he'll meet us in Smallville." Or something like that. But the way it was written....Come on! (*snorts in disbelief*) - You don't do neurosurgery at a teeny little community hospital (and why does Smallville have a medical center, anyway? Isn't Granville the county seat? Wouldn't you expect the hospital there, along with the courthouse and the tax offices and all the other administrative machinery?)

Neurosurgery requires a significant capital investment in training, staff, equipment, and materials, and to amortize that investment, it is typically done in large, tertiary-care institutions. (At least the level of neurosurgery that Lex was having). So, if you were medivacking Lex anyway, why not just medivac him to Henry Ford Hospital, or the Detroit Medical Center, or some other hospital in the Detroit area? Why head all the way to frickin' Smallville?

Maybe I'm getting a little cynical about this?

It's just soooo funny because they are already in DETROIT! I have lived in Newark and Atlanta and I always said that if I ever got shot I would want to be treated at the inner-city hospital because they are so familiar with gun shot wounds. No suburban medical center for me unless I'm delivering a baby or something.

I agree here.

I am not that surprised that the Daily Planet would have a walk-in freezer. It is a huge building. I have worked in some pharmaceutical companies that were nowhere near as large as the Daily Planet, but had pretty big cafeterias which had freezers.

But what I do think is a stretch was the lack of a "safety knob" inside the walk-in freezer in this episode. In one of the labs I used to work at, we had a pretty big walk in freezer that we used to store the plasma samples we were testing. This thing was kept at around -20C. And there was a doorknob inside the freezer. So if someone were to close the door, and even put a padlock on the freezer door handle, there was no danger of being locked in because all you had to do was push in the safety doorknob thing and the freezer would open.

So the fact that the Daily Planet having a walk-in freezer wasn't really the strange part of this episode...it was the fact that there was no safety knob/handle of some kind inside the freezer.

(unless of course there was one, and Jimmy just didn't know).

Why is there a walk-in freezer in the Daily Planet?

Why did Clark waste 6 hours of gas driving to Metropolis in shattered when he could make the round trip in 10 minutes running?

Why did Jor-El freeze Clark after he saved the world?

Why did Zod turn Brainiac from a big ship capable of sending the pulse on its own to a circular box that needed satelite codes?

Because its all part of the story thats all.

i think the daily planet just added it this week bc Lex Luthor's henchmen plan ahead..she waslike hey i know if they get unruly i'll just lock them in the freezer ...and i'll install doors with no handles from inside....haha that will teach careless kitchen workers to be cautious

I've worked in big resturaunts, and THEY didn't have a freezer as large as the one in the basement of The Daily Planet. Clark had to blow the door off, and walk a ways inside to find Jimmy & Lois.

Heck, I've worked at ICE CREAM stores, (31 Flavors) and THEY dont have one as big as that one. Sure, ours was a walk in, but it's SO narrow. They looked like they had enough room to live in that freezer.
