lol, I think the smile was just Lionel believing he can die in peace. He's done all he can, he had that message/will taken care of for Clark.

I completely agree. I loved that look on his face in his final moments. He didn't scream or anything, he just smiled serenely and with the hope he can die in peace. It was really beautifully done (Especially the reflection in Lex's eye, that was brilliantly thought out).

Lionel really did look peaceful. He knew it was going to happen, and he took it like a true warrior... I couldn't have asked for a better way to see him go.
It's ironic though, isn't it? As much as Lex wants to stay out of his father's shadow, it really is like father like son... a quest for power, for knowledge, they both believe they are protecting the world, and they killed the ones who raised them for something they felt was vital to their success...

I know this is Lex's development in the darkness, but I just feel his transition was a bit too quick andrough. Yes, Lex has quite a bit of blood on his hands, but by his OWN hands. I think it was odd how he could be so dark, sadistic, and emotionless by his own doing already. To kill someone in vain, let alone your own father. We've seen him kill for survival, protect, whatever, but in vain and so easy was hard for me to digest.

I don't think it was too quick. Lex was ready to do this for a while now. People tend to think that "this" is the moment turned him evil. I disagree, he was evil for a awhile now in my oppinion. I just can't remember since when.

Yeah Lex has been evil 4 a while, and this death has been coming 4 a while 2, It's seems as though Lex planned everything down to the last detail. And the way Lionel fell, I never considered it be4, but he did die in peace. He left in pure MB form, no screams or anything like that, he was cool down to the last moment

As a social worker who has worked with abused children, it does not seem sudden or rough to me that Lex could murder his father in cold blood by his own hands. I don't have time to go into the psychology of it all, but suffice it to say I can totally understand Lex doing this.

Yeppers. A shame but yes, the hell he went through with his father was pretty intense
